First things first:

Nutrition
“To eat is a necessity, but to eat intelligently is an art.”
-Francois de La Rochefoucauld

If you want to see great results, you have to focus on your nutrition as much as the workouts. Nutrition plays a key role in how you will reach your goals and attain the new and better you! Getting a solid nutrition plan in place prior to starting is key. Over time you will learn new eating habits that you can carry with you for the rest of your life.

In all other Beachbody programs many have advised, as have we, to stay away from pastas and breads. Well, welcome back pasta and breads. In the Build and Bulk stages you will need to eat these. Not only to up your calories, but for the energy they can provide. It’s kind of difficult to get to 1500 calories a day without eating breads and pastas.

DON’T BE AFRAID TO EAT! Quality calories are your friend if you want to add on Beast-like muscle. Of course real food is best for you but it is hard to get it all in. To do that, take your supplements. Protein shakes are key. Whether it is the Stack from Beachbody (Base, Fuel, Creatine, and Suma) or your own combo, you MUST get it in you to pack on the muscle.

Shakeology is also great way to meet many of your nutritional needs! As a meal or a snack it fuels your body with everything it needs in order to BRING IT every day!

Track your progress
Where are you now? Where do you want to be? Have Goals!

Nothing is more important or motivating than to see where you started and how you are progressing along the way! It is so CRUCIAL that you do the following BEFORE you begin:

Take your Measurements
Take your before & after pictures. As TH would say, “How do you know where you are going if you don’t know where you have been?”

Motivation
Times will get tough and there are going to be days that you feel like you cannot get up or you feel too tired at night to workout. This is where your Coach and this thread help out. By joining this thread you will find like-minded people that will push you and look for help from you to be pushed. This is a program and it helps to have not just your Coach in your corner but a whole team ready to cheer you on and waiting for you to cheer them on.

Pre-Workout
All the workouts are intense! You need the right fuel to “Bring It!” Your pre-workout meal actually begins the day before. So again, a solid nutrition plan is vital. A pre-workout meal about an hour before is important. If you work out first thing in the morning like me, I advise a small snack for energy or a pre-workout shake. If you work out in the afternoon or evening, a solid meal 2-3 hours before is your friend.

Post-Workout
Recovery: After an intense BEAST workout, it is vital to recover the right way. By adding a Recovery Drink immediately after your workout, you will significantly decrease the amount of soreness you will experience while your body recovers. Intense exercise will burn off glycogen stores in the muscles which leaves the body without its primary source of energy. You need to replace these glycogen stores immediately with a 4:1 ratio of quality, fast acting carbs and quality protein. Plus low blood sugar levels in the brain will lead to fatigue, irritability, lack of concentration, depression, etc.

The Stack from Beachbody, Base, Fuel, and Creatine will replenish your muscles with glycogen, you will not only avoid muscle breakdown, but you will promote muscle growth and keep your energy levels up. The P90X Recovery Drink also works great.

Come to the thread every day and post your daily accountability and questions and before you know it you will be on your last few days and be looking BEAST-LIKE.

This thread is a great way to meet like-minded, motivated people that are going through exactly what you are going through. They will help you stay accountable and motivated, and you will keep them accountable and motivated! Everyone comes from different backgrounds and will be able to share tips and information that has helped them and could help you as well. We are here because we want to gain muscle mass and are willing to take a hard look at our nutrition to achieve this goal. In other words...you are here because you want to BEAST UP and follow the program as it was designed and be held accountable.

This program is not a weight loss program; it is a muscle gaining program. We are here to pack on muscle. In the final BEAST phase we will shred down. We of course don’t want to add too much goo in the beginning but let’s not over stress about it. Let’s try to stay away from that topic and modifying macros to cut more fat in phases not designed to do so.

HUGE BEAST OR LEAN BEAST? Please join in regardless of which plan you are doing.

Okay. It is time to RELEASE THE BEAST WITHIN! Let’s stop messing around and get this done.

Beast Babe Roll Call

Hello! I’m Coach Tricia Fleming and here’s a little bit about me. I have completed P90X, Insanity, Brazilian Butt Lift and am currently giving Body Beast a try. In February 2012 I was 195 lbs and hating how I felt. So I signed up for a Tough Mudder (16 kilometers, 19 obstacles, designed by the British special forces) and decided that I wanted to survive that so I had to do something! I started with getting used to working out again by doing Yoga (The Fountain of Youth DVD) and The One on One Butt and Belly DVD. After a week or so of that my body had gotten used to the idea that I was going to make it sweat and I started P90X. I had tried the program before but quit without finishing. This time I had the Mudder to motivate me and I finished P90X.

Photos, measurements and the way my clothes were falling off all told me that I was getting results. I had dropped 30 lbs by that point and put on some muscle and it felt good. After getting my strength up with P90X, I knew I needed to work on my cardio conditioning so I got my hands on Insanity. But even though I pushed hard every day I had hit the dreaded plateau. My problem? I wasn’t eating enough. Like a lot of women, I made the mistake of thinking I could eat less to lose weight when my body needed me to eat more. Once I upped my calories, another 5 lbs dropped off and I was at my lowest weight of 162 lbs.

I ran the Tough Mudder in August and was proud to finish every obstacle and the course entirely. In September 2012 I ran a half marathon and set my personal best time of 2 hrs 56 min (I am not a runner). Wanting the adrenaline of a new challenge, I have recently started Body Beast and love weight training again!

My goals for 2013 are to continue improving my health and fitness, help as many people as I can achieve their goals and kick some butt! I’ll be doing 2 Tough Mudders in 2013, a Spartan Beast and trying to get my half marathon time down to 2 hrs 30 min or less.

So let me introduce myself a little more.

I'm Shannon Live in Ft Worth, TX with my hubby and hyper dog who you will hear me talk about quite often.

I started with beach body consistently about a year ago. I've done two and a half rounds of P90X a round of X2 and dabbled with BBL and Insanity. I've lost about 20 pounds in my year journey.

I became a coach about a month ago. Over the past year my coach and my team have been my lifeline when trying to get in shape and lose weight so I became a coach to try to give others that same opportunity. I'm not an expert at this but together we can do this.

I started Body beast 3 weeks ago and am starting phase 2 (bulk) tonight!! I love lifting. I've been eating 2,400 calories with 50%carb/25% fat and protein. I want to add muscle but not too much at the expense of gaining too much fat.

Hope you will join me on this journey.

Oh and I'm a huge baseball fan...Texas Rangers.....who are in the midst of an epic collapse as I type, so I apologize for any rants I may have emoticonemoticon

I am off to go push play W4D1 Bulk Chest to try to work off some of this baseball frustration. Throwing around dumbbells should help.

Hi all, I just finished a round of P90X and was thinking about Body Beast so I am glad to see your thread. I'm debating between Beast and Chalene extreme, but from what I have seen of the Beast dvds, it is more like what I am looking for. I don't have a curl bar, but I do have a wide range of dumbbells. Will that work? I also belong to a gym. Are the workouts such that once I learn them, I could take my worksheets to the gym and use the equipment there? If I go ahead with this, I'll be way behind you, but I look forward to hearing about your progress and reading your previews of the workouts.

I don't use the ez curl bar, the free weights sub out for that wonderfully. As for doing the routines on your own at a gym, I haven't personally tried it but I could see it working. What you'd lack is the motivation to push fast and hard, because Sagi really doesn't give much in the way of sit around and get comfortable time. Where Tony does a lot of talking and you can sneak in some breath catching, with Sagi there is a lot less of that. So if you think you can bring the intensity on your own without following the DVD, I could see you doing it at the gym.

I'm only getting into my third week now and my boyfriend is about to start his first, so it doesn't matter when you start it, as long as you are enjoying it!

I love this thread title! One bit of warning is that on shoulder days you may want to do some extra warmups. For some reason or another almost all the guys in my thread (including me) have wrecked our shoulders...probably because we're trying to be hero's! (nah this is just my excuse). As a result I am now doing the appropriate P90x warmup for the Body Beast workout, as I never got injured doing P90x, and I'm also taking an extra day off between Bulk Shoulders and Bulk chest. Hopefully the "babes" in here won't have any problems...but the Sagi 6 Way and the 1,2,3 front raise on Build Shoulders are pretty taxing. Wishing you guys the best on your Beast Journey.

Good luck!

Julia,

If you like lifting you will LOVE <3 Body Beast.

You can get by with all of your P90X weights to start. You may have to add a few more as you go because you will be pushing heavier weight.

Beast Day 3 - Back and Biceps.

Wow. I can do a lot of pull-ups but super-set them with other back exercises and, well, um, not so much. My weights were good on all my back work but biceps I was all over the place. Too lite for one exercise and too heavy for the next. Learning phase I guess.

Speaking of biceps. I'm used to X and X2 where you go back and forth with back/biceps. After pre-fatiguing the biceps doing back, the biceps were fried.

Loving this so far. Tomorrow is Diamond day (Shoulders). I love that Beast has a day just for shoulders. Strong cantaloupe shaped shoulders are the cherry on top of a great shaped body.

After tomorrow I will be off for three days camping at the beach. I'll run all three and return to Day 1 Beast when I return.

I've thought about the same thing....doing this at the gym. You could just take the workout sheets with you. I might do this next round especially on back/leg when I need heavier weights.

Good point on the warming up. I have read allot of people will do longer warm ups or sub the P90X warm up. I think its a good idea.

This is exactly what I've started to do on my own. I felt like there was just no real warm up or stretching so I threw in a little Tony time to warm up. And the mix up between Tony's pterodactyl and Sagi's waking the beast just makes me giggle like mad.
