I CHALLENGE YOU, TO GET FIT AND HEALTHY & TO MOTIVATE & SUPPORT EACH OTHER

Welcome, my name is Brad. I am creating this thread as a place where we can all get together, motivate and hold each other accountable through a round of P90X.

All are welcome, no matter when you started. This is a place where you can come post your accountability. A place where you can seek advice and support for whatever problems you may be having. EVERYONE IS WELCOME HERE.

One key to getting fit and healthy is social accountability. This thread is a great place to get that.

All you need to do is to COMMIT to posting your accountability daily ( workouts that you did ) and ask any questions you may have. REMEMBER, the only stupid question is the one you failed to ask.

I will in turn, COMMIT to providing each and every one of you with the support, motivation & accountability. I will COMMIT to getting you an answer to each and every question you may have.

If you are ready to DECIDE that you need to get fit & healthy and if you are ready to COMMIT to doing what it takes to get there, then I will do my absolute best to help you SUCCEED.

Now let’s go get fit & healthy and have fun doing it

Howdy All, Wanted to give you a post about Nutrition

Nutrition is going to be your key to success in this and any other program

Nutrition and any workout program go hand in hand. Actually it’s more like, Nutrition takes the lead and the workouts follow.

Basically, Nutrition is 80% and work outs are 20%. That’s right, that new body you want is going to be made in the kitchen, for the most part. Now don’t get me wrong, you still need the work outs and plenty of them but you are also going to have to do a lot of work in the Kitchen.

Now, for those of you using the P90X Nutrition guide, let me say that I know…It is VERY confusing and I am going to try and clarify it and make it a little easier to understand.

First off lets start with 2 key phrases, Phases and Levels

There are 3 Phases

Phase 1 – Fat Shredder
Phase 2 – Energy Booster
Phase 3 – Endurance Maximizer

And there are 3 Levels

Use the book to do the calculations and determine your calorie needs
Level 1 – 1800 – 2399 calories / day
Level 2 – 2400-2999 calories / day
Level 3 – 3000 calories / day

Now this is the first point I want to clarify. If the book says you need 3000 calories ( Level 3 ) and you are just starting out and you are in phase 1 ( Fat Shredder )
You are NOT going to eat 3000 calories a day. A lot of people see this and freak out at the thought of eating that much food. But remember it is true, you have to eat more in order to lose weight. I know it sounds silly, but you really need to trust me on this one.
What we are going to have you do is to run what is called a calorie deficit. This means if it says 3000 calories / day then you are probably going to want to eat around 2100 / day. This may still be a lot to some folks but this amount of food along with a work out program will cause you to lose weight. Plus if you break it down to 6 meals a day it's only 350 calories per meal. You should be eating 5-6 times a day to keep your metabolism firing in high gear.

Here is the trick, those calories that you do eat need to be broken up into these breakdowns, depending on which phase you are in.

Phase 1 - 50% Protein, 30% Carbs & 20% Fat
Phase 2 – 40% Protein, 40% Carbs & 20% Fat
Phase 3 – 20% Protein, 60% Carbs & 20% Fat

And the even bigger trick, that is not in the book is this. TRACK your food intake. Track everything you eat, everyday so you know what is going into your body.
People who track their food intake are 40% more likely to lose weight than those who don’t.
The reason is simple, if you have to log what you eat you are more likely to second guess yourself before you throw that pizza in your mouth.

The best and easiest way to do this is with an online based program. I use an online based program called My Fitness Pal. You can get your free account here http://www.myfitnesspal.com/ Once you create your account, be sure to add me as a buddy my screen name is BradChappell, also go to settings and make sure you have your diary settings set so that friends can see your diary. That way if there are any questions I can look at the diary.

This may sound like a daunting task, but I assure you it will become like second nature.

Morning All,
Well, let's see, I have completed Power 90 and I am in week 3 of Insanity. I miss Tony and the controlled movements with the weights. So this morning I did a P90X workout and I think i will officially start on 10/15/12. On that date i will have 25 days till I going on vacation, which I probably will not be doing the P90X, but a lot of walking, swimming and sweating. (it will be hot there)

I am turning 41 in 26 days, 5'3", @133 lbs. My goal weight is 125. I know i need to work on my eating. So this week I will go over the guide and hopefully get my boyfriend on board with me. I would love him to do the workouts with me. He sits on the couch and watches me. I only get mad at him when he tells me to stop dropping the "f" bomb at the TV. REALLY???

I feel bad about quitting Insanity, but I just think P90X would give me the results I want to see.

I'm in.

Morning Everyone!

Last year I compleated two rounds of P90X and then my father passed and I lost motivation for it all. The depression and stress won. I regained the 20lbs I'd lost plus found 5 extra. Around July with the estate settled I decided that I had to get moving again. No more excuses.

I had bought Chalene Extreme to start after my last round of P90X to change things up, I dusted it off and started in August. I never could find an awesome group like we had for P90X, so I gave up on the boards. Thanks for the email Coach, I'm needing a boost from fellow beachbodiers! I'm now at phase three 10lbs down and feeling better. But some recent stress on the job and some new trouble with my step-son (do they EVER grow-up?!!) and I've been having a case of the 'who-cares'.

Hope you don't mind a CEer in the group, if it was anything like the last one it will rock!

HOWDY TEAM

Sorry , had to go out of state and didn’t take my laptop, kind of a last minute trip. But I am back

Cori,

Welcome to the team. I completely understand, I am a DIE HARD P90X fan. I am going to force myself through a round of Insanity after this P90X round, but I’ll have a goal in mind when I do it. I will be trying to lean up before I start a round Of Body Beast to add some bulk. Again, welcome to the team and feel free to ask any questions

Jenn

Hey Jenn, Welcome back. You know me well enough to know I absolutely do not mind a CEer on the team. I’m glad to see you back at it. I know how you feel about the kiddos, I don’t think they ever do
I use Kenpo X to combat the stress my kids give me. It generally works great, plus they see me kicking and punching like a mad man and they avoid me for a couple of days ;-)

Well Ladies, I am off to get me some Kenpo X. I am going to officially start my round on Monday but a little jump start wont hurt

GOOD SUNDAY AFTERNOON TEAM

Well, it is a lazy relaxing kind of day around my house today. The wife and youngest daughter are out of town and the older kids are minding their own. So what does a guy like me do? Well I was watching the Cowboys game and got a lil stressed ( they do that to me ) so I plugged in some X-Stretch to try and relax and well lets just say it worked a little but not enough....LOL, Thanks Cowboys...But I am a die Hard fan and no matter how bad they play, I just can't seem to abandon them.

Oh well, since I am basically home alone and stressed, I am going to do some Fountain of Youth Yoga....I know that will de-stress me.

I hope everyone had an AWESOME weekend

KPP & BRING IT

I'm in...

I've attempted P90 twice and have yet to make it all the way through. First attempt I stopped after one month due to a back injury. Second attempt I stopped after one month. This will be my first attempt while following the nutrition guide. I'm going to do pre-90x starting tomorrow for one week. I'm going to do half of each exercise while getting use to the diet plan. I will be starting my official 90 day journey on 10/22. Look forward to going through this with everyone.

Day 1 is officially done. i did the pull ups with the bands, i need to set up my bar (can't do them that way so this is a good start.)

I finished around 3 hours ago and my right arm is sore...Those diamond push ups and dive bombers are killers.

AbX was a bit of a challenge. i think my legs hurt more than my mid-section. i have 26 days before my vacation, and i am going to make the most of them!

BRING IT!!

Hey all,

This will be my 3rd week of P90X. I'm doing all the workouts and despite the expense and time involved, I am following the nutrition plan as well.

I've worked out off and on my whole life. My Dad was the manager of a health spa when I was a kid and seeing him workout and eating healthy has helped. My life hasn't always been on track though. I'm a recovering alcoholic and drug addict. I've been clean and sober now for almost 12 years. It seems I've been trying to catch up with life and time lost ever since I got clean. I've restored my relationship with my loving wife and 3 children and financially we are in the best shape we've been in for a long time. I've been self employed for 8 years and my wife also works full time. We have 2 sons in college now and a 13 year old daughter.

I just turned 42 and I'm 5'10 185lbs. I've always been muscular but over the past 6-7 years I've had way too much body fat. I love to eat and my metabolism up and left me when I hit 35 or so. I'm lucky enough to have a lot of free time during the winter months due to my company being seasonal. I know for some, lack of time can be a good excuse but I can't use that. My biggest hurdle is myself and just doing the freaking work. I know I'll get the results if I just stick to it.

Anyway, now you know a little about me and I'm game for the challenge.

Thanks,
Barry

Just getting in, but still gonna jump in WOWY and knock out my Day 1

Tingleybody,

Welcome to the Team, I too have been down the injury highway. I hurt my shoulder in my second round and had to sit out a while. I like that you are getting on the nutrition plan. Nutrition is 80% of any program. If you have any questions or need to know how many calories to take in, feel free to ask

Cori,

I hate my bar, or rather I hate my short doors, makes using the bar way too hard. I bounce back and forth between bar and bands. ARX is always a challenge for me as well, It really seems taxing on my legs as well

Barry

Welcome to the Team. Congrats on being clean & sober . I feel ya on the lost metabolism. I’m 43 and haven’t seen mine in years either. The good thing is we can make our metabolism ramp back up by eating 5-6 times a day. If you do this then your body isn’t working in starvation mode and your metabolism ramps up to deal with your food intake in the proper way

Alrighty Team, I am off to WOWY to get my Day 1 done and over with. I have to get up at 3am and get on the road, but should be home early tomorrow….yay!!!!!!

KPP & BRING IT!!!!!

Welcome Everyone!

I'm going away this weekend so I've kind of played my schedule to get all my workouts in before I leave. Tonight I did my Saturday cardio intervals. I could tell that I slacked last week on the diet and workouts. It wasn't as bad as the first few weeks but I could feel the heat comming off my head! Weights for tomorrow.

Coach-I feel your pain...I'm a Lions fan!!emoticon

Berry-I bulk cook on Sundays to try and cut down on some of the time involved in the kitchen. Also, helps me stay on plan to have it handy. I chop veggies, boil eggs, cook burger, chicken, beans, brown rice, etc. then all I have to do is heat them up or add together for stirfrys, salads or whatever. Hope it helps some.

Keep Pushing Play!

Lions....ouch. This coming from a diehard Seattle fan (in all sports), I feel your pain. However it's a great time to be a Tiger fan!!!

Team
I'll be starting this round of P90 at 225lbs. My ultimate goal is to be around 9-12% bodyfat which will put me around 180lbs. When I do my calculations from the nutrition guide it has me at 3000 calories. I understand that I need to feed the machine for the the workouts I put my body through but that seems like A LOT of calories. Can I attempt to reduce my calorie intake at the beginning and track my results as well as how my body feels or should I just trust the guide and attempt to get down 3000 calories a day?

Any advice would be great.

@Jenn - I like the idea of cooking in bulk on Sundays. I think that will help, thanks!

@tinglebody - I too feel like the plan is a lot of calories. I'm at 2500 calories. I do like that if I'm consistent in eating every few hours, I never go hungry. In the past I've melted off the fat at 2000 calories with a lot of cardio (jogging).

But for me, when I'm that calorie deficient, I only lose fat with no chance of gaining muscle. I'm also more tired which doesn't leave me enough energy for the workouts then I begin to slack and eventually quit. But with this plan and the higher calorie intake, I am finding I have plenty of energy to pound through the workouts and build some muscle. I think it's more of a slow long term losing fat plan while being able to put on some muscle as well.

3000 calories does seem like a lot. You should try it at first and just see how you feel. You know your body better than anyone, if it seems like too much then cut back a little. Just don't skip out on the workouts because with that much calorie intake you'll need to keep active. Also, stick to the meal plan and eat clean every few hours. I think you might be surprised how much your body will adapt and shred fat even with higher calories.

Just my opinion.
