Hey guys, I will be starting a round of Rev Abs on 10/21/12. This will be my first time with this program, so I don't really know what to expect, but I am looking forward to the challenge.

I will be adding in some extra strength training to my routine, as that is something I don't really want to give up. I also will be adding in some extra rest days each week, as I have been recovering from a particular nasty flare up. I have Ulcerative Colitis, and when it flares up, and really wears me down, so the added rest days allow me to push myself, while providing a little more recovery time.

So if you’re looking for a group to keep you motivated, feel free to join.

RE: Starting Rev Abs the week of 10/21/12 - 10/27/12 who's with me

A little about myself, I've been off and on with weight loss for most of my life, I would bounce up and down with my weight, as I went from one fad diet to the next. Then three years ago, I hit my low point (or high if you will), as I ballooned up to 315 lbs. I decided to make a change, and started eating a lot less and working out. That year, I was also blessed with my first child, which only helped to fuel my motivations. I picked up P90X, and really got serious.

I ended up losing my job, and got somewhat lazy after my son was born, as I was dealing with some depression after losing my job, but still ended up dropping 40 lbs. I refocused in Jan, and started a new round of P90X. Life again threw me a curve ball, as I was not finding work, so I took the jump and moved from Virginia back to Pennsylvania, where I grew up. I maintained a somewhat decent diet and workout routine throughout the year, but never fully committed to anything, as I delta with back issues, as well as jumping around jobs. I still ended up dropping 30 more lbs, bringing my total weight loss to 70 lbs, but I still felt unsatisfied.

At the beginning of this year, life had finally calmed down, and I decided on another round of P90X, up to this point I had yet to complete a full 90 days, but I had been doing the workout off and on for some time. At the end of March I completed my first round of P90X, I had dropped 9 more lbs, and a few more inches. I had also started running, and completed my first 5K in mid April.

I started a round of P90X+ in May, and was feeling great, until I injured my shoulder. Wasn't anything major, but it threw me off. I fell off the wagon for the month of June, but refocused and started a P90X/P90X+ hybrid workout at the beginning of July. Again I was going strong, the weight wasn't flying off, but I could tell I was getting a lot stronger.

Unfortunately, life threw me another curve ball, as I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis at the beginning of September. This is a particularly nasty Autoimmune disease, and when you’re dealing with a flare, it really can zap your energy. I pushed even harder after my diagnosis, not wanting to use it as an excuse. I reached 94 days into my hybrid, but ended up burning out pretty good around the beginning of Oct. I decided to just take some time off, and give my body the rest it needed.

So that brings me to today, for the last week, I've been doing my own thing, and couldn't pass up on the great offer for Rev Abs. I have been doing nothing but P90X workouts for two years. I do throw in the occasional Zumba or other cardio workout, but I need a new program.

As you can see I've been through a lot, but I've always tried to stay positive, and keep up with my workouts. Not always 100%, but always tried to do something. I am really looking forward to starting Rev Abs, and would love to have some more people join me. Feel free to join, and share your story.

Adam,

I am with you with RevAbs next week! It looks like you have had great results already. I am looking forward to this program. Mine should be arriving, so I am going to try out a few of the workouts this week, but really get started next week. I have done P90X and Insanity and have been working through P90X2, but battling an upper-body injury that seems to be giving me problems with X2, so I am going to give it a rest for a while.

Once I do a few of the workouts, I should have a good feeling of where I need to go with my nutrition.

I am eager for my dvds to get here! Until then I am mixing up my workouts and doing something that sounds fun. Today was KenpoX, which I hadn't done in ages, but it is a fun one!

CourtneyLCoach - Good to see your on board, I also have P90X2, but feel I got a little burned out on Tony over the past two years, so that is going to have to wait till next year. I'm super axious as well to get it, love getting the new workouts, and watching them for the first time, ya I know such a nerd, but I love it. This week will also just be me doing my own thing. Did Zumba last night, todays an off day, and then tomorrow who knows, whatever it is I know its going to make me sweat. I'm also a fan of Kenpo, but I like Kenpo + better. Its shorter and more intense. Again glad to see your on board.

Hey guys, continuing to prepare for the start of Rev Abs this weekend. I did some upper body and ab work this morning, nothing to crazy, but got a decent burn. Always feel a little off when I do a none beachbody workout, jus so use to those trainers and their routines, that when I try something else, it just feels wrong lol.

Rev Abs should be arriving today, looking forward to checking it out over the next few days, may attempt a few workout as well. I plan on working out tomorrow and Thursday, and then taking off Fri, and Sat, and starting this off Sunday, looking forward to the new challenge.

Bummer, hurt my back at work last night lifting a patient (I work as an ER nurse). In serious pain last night and today and had to file and L&I claim as the pain was too bad. Good news is that it is probably just a back strain (which I knew) and ice, antiinflammatory, muscle relaxant, and chiropractor will hopefully do the trick. I am seeing my chiropractor tomorrow and then hopefully Thursday I will try some One-on-One Yoga to start and stretch things out and alternate that with the X2 Recovery and Mobility. My doc did say that I could do activity as tolerated, so here is to keeping my fingers crossed that I wll feel up to RevAbs on Monday! I got my DVDs today and was impressed on the amount of material for the $$. I also love that the DVDs are a little shorter, which should be easier to fit a workout in before a 12 hour work day.

Hey guys, over slept this morning, so only managed 20 minutes of yoga, but I still plan on doing some zumba this evening. Did some yoga before bed as well, so feeling pretty loose this morning.

Started checking out Rev Abs last night, watched the Total Strength, Mercy Abs, Fire Up Your Abs, and Rev Abs 4X4. All look really good, I like the fact they are shorter, coming off P90X that is great news, especially since I plan on adding in some additional weight training to my routine. I'm also liking the main dude, Brett, he's pretty funny, still will have to see if he's as good as Tony emoticon. Also I just noticed that the cost of Rev Abs just jumped back up to $90, so glad I grabbed it when I did.

Courtney - Sry to hear about your back, I completly understand it though. Been dealing with back issues for years, hurt it right out of high school while working at UPS, its never been the same since. I go to a chiropractor weekly now, such a pain in the butt, but I've learend to just deal with it. Hopefully you will be able to join us next week, but a workout so focused on core stregth can be rough, if your dealing with back pain. That being said, I hope you stick with us even if your a few days behind us, and we're not on the same schedule.

Jason - Glad to have you on board, always nice to have a few more people to help with motivation. What's your fitness story?

We just got our RevAbs in the mail yesterday and I started reviewing them! They look good and I'm anxious to try them. We will be finished with our Power90 workout the end of Oct. Then we'll be starting our P90x program... is it smart to do both at the same time? Is that too much... kinda worried P90x is going to kick our butts anyways... any thoughts?

or is it better to do each program on there own? New to all this. This will be our first 90 days on anything!

Thanks,
Tami

MissSQ - welcome to the group, I was the same way, very anxiouse to get mine. Glad to have you on board.

TamiMcNabb - I'll be honest that may be to much to take at one time. P90X is a very tough workout on its own, especially if you haven't done it yet. I'm not sure yet about Rev Abs, but it looks like it can be rough as well. I would say try them on their own first, and then if you feel you need something more combine the workouts. In my last phase of P90X I started adding in extra cardio. I would run or do zumba three times a week, but by then I was feeling like I needed something extra. This was also after two years of working out, so I had a lot to give at that point. I'd hate to see you burn yourself out, or injure yourself. So if your dead set on P90X I'd give that a try by itself for a few weeks and see how you feel. Glad to have you on board, feel fre to post even if your just doing P90X, always love to see how people deal with different workouts.

Adam - I am hopeful my back will improve. I too have dealt with chronic back problems since an injury my first year as a nurse, when I was 22 years old, so I am used to basic rehab of it. The good news is that being shape has helped me heal a lot quicker from injuries in the past, so I know it will help now.

Tami - I agree with Adam - the combo of RevAbs and P90X would probably be too much and lead to overtraining and possibly injury. That being said, you might be able to use the short ab routine Mercy Abs or Merciless Abs to replace AbRipperX. Most of the P90X workouts are 60 minutes minimum and then throw in a 35-45 minute workout in addition, you are looking at 90 minutes a day. Is there a reason you want to do both workouts simultaneously? Another thing you could do is a hybrid of sorts where you use the P90X weight routines and replace the cardio routines (Plyometrics or KenpoX) with one of the RevAbs cardio routines. Find what works for you and remember that extra exercise does not equal faster weight loss and can actually hurt you in the long run if you sustain an injury. Quality workouts 5-6 days a week are better than longer workouts with potentially poorer form.

MissSQ and Jason - Glad to have you along as well! The more, the merrier.

10/18/12 5:23 AM as a reply to wolfehound22.
Hey guys, I decided to do the fit test today, not to tough, but got a surprisingly good burn.

Here are my results:

1. Squat Hold (goal 1 min) - 2 min 20 sec
2. Pushups (goal 30 in 30 sec) - 31
3. Jumping Jacks (goal 30 in 30 sec) - 38
4. Plank (goal 1 min) - 1 min 45 sec
5. Cobra (goal 1 min) - 1 min 35 sec
6. Crunch (goal 30 in 30 sec) - 28
7. Leg Drop (goal 20 in 1 min) - 20
8. Side Plank Left (goal 30 sec) - 1min 5 sec
8. Side Plank Right (goal 30 sec) - 1 min 7 sec

Overall pleased with my results, most far exceeded the goal, but there is still plenty of room for improvement.

I also watched a few more workouts, they seem to all be structured the same way. 4-5 moves, broken up into three rounds, with the third round (the spice round) adding something new. Looks like a blast though. I get a good laugh with the "Rev zone" though, seems like anyone that goes in there gets a little out of control, but I get the point.

Overall though I am really looking forward to the next 90 days, as my core is probably my most stubborn and weakest area, so hoping this really improves it.

Taking the next two days as off days, so that I am at 100% for the start on Sunday, I'll still probably do some yoga, but outside of that, I;m going to enjoy some down time.

Adam - those numbers look great!

Today I did Debbie Siebers Total Body Solution which is supposed to help with pain and mobility. It what a single injury can do to the body. Just 2 weeks ago I was doing plank moves left and right for P90X2 and today I couldn't hold a plank for longer than 30 seconds due to pain. That being said, the Total Body Solution is a great DVD to help with ROM exercises. I had the opportunity to work out with Debbie when she was in Seattle last month and she knows her stuff. Anyway, not too hopeful about a Monday starting point for RevAbs as my pain has not at all subsided (and will probably call today to talk to my doc about some PT). However, I know I need to take care of my body so that I can do more in the longrun.

Courtney - Take all the time needed, talking from experience, it is needed. I'm still stubborn abd will workout when it's best to rest, but I am getting better. Although sometimes it is benifical to do some workouts, I would say, take it east for the next few days, then start back slow, yoga and stretching and then start moving up from there. Even when you get back to some tougher workouts, it may be best to start out by just doing half the workout, and then go from there, a whole workout still may be tough. Hoping you have a speedy recovery.

Off day today and tomorrow, but as usual I'll try and get some yoga in. Going to try and preview the rest of the Rev Abs workout tonight and tomorrow, so far I like what I've seen. I also need to get a gameplan together for my lifting schedule. Since Rev Abs doesn't do much in the way of weigt training, I'm doing my own thing, haven't decided exactly how I want to do it though.

Got a somewhat busy weekend ahead, going to an amusment park tomorrow, so should be doing plenty of walking. Can't wait, haven't got to go to one all year, and they have 10 haunted houses set up, which I always love. What's everyone up to this weekend.

Today's workout - icepack training - lift ice pack from freezer, walk to the chair, place icepack on back, drink lots of water and back again. Oh, and I squeezed in a massage!
