So I started Insanity at 289 lbs 3 weeks ago and got down to 283 this past Friday. I started week 3 today and weighed in at 290...this sucks. I did have a couple slices of pizza yesterday but 6lbs increase?? I'm back to following a strict 2100 calorie diet and hope to see results at least on the scale in 2 weeks when I weigh in again...

From past experiences BHawk, don't focus too much on the scale. I know its hard not to. Focus on measurements, waist, thighs, arms, chest.
And mainly focus on whether or not you feel better. Do you have more energy? Are you breathing easier? Do you feel better overall?
If you answer yes to those questions, keep at it. If you aren't answering yes to all three questions, you will. Results will come. Trust the programs.
Above all be honest with yourself and don't give up.

I went from 280 to 230 in 3 months the wrong way, to get in the Army back in 2003. The Army helped me get down 190 in training. I went back up, and then back down in Afghanistan. I have yo-yo'ed between 190 and 220 for the past few years. Started Insanity the 15th of October 2012 along with my normal running of 15-20 miles a week. Starting to commute to work on a bicycle, and have made the commitment to get down 180 from my current 210 and make my ten year weight loss journey an even 100lbs.

Well I just want to encourage you a little. Is it possible increase in muscle mass and therefore a healthy increase in your weight? I would agree, don't let the scale rule you and look for more non-scale victories. A slice of pizza every once in a while will NOT kill you. Keep to your routine. Progress is what counts.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm going to stay away from the scale for a couple weeks. I definitely can answer yes to all of those questions though, but my lower back is bothering me a bit from the workouts, but I can handle it. I'm hoping as I shed pounds the pain will lessen. I'm going to keep at it!

Hey man, i'm a big guy too so I know how you feel. The weight could be from water retention or something else (you probably did not gain 6 pounds of muscle overnight - people that tell you that are not being realistic)

I know I was stuck at 321 for 10 days before it started dropping again, and I know that it's tempting to get on the scale because I still do. Take your measurements - that's what did it for me. If you like to weigh in like I do, just know that it is just one component of the whole fitness puzzle.

One thing I think is really important is to drink A LOT of water. That has really helped me to drop more weight.

I'm not a coach, but I sent you a buddy request so we can keep up with each other. Good luck bro, you can do it!

ChaplainPagne's totally right, you're a big guy and so's my husband(6'10 started out a while back at about 244). I’ll send you a buddy request too—so you can find him (I can’t remember his screen name right now emoticon ). I've seen with my own eyes the scale vary over 10lbs for him in a day.
Keep your tummy moving (big guys have lots of intestine), so lots of water and clean fibre-rich food too emoticon I'm sure ultimate reset would be good too to get your body running on full steam--toxins can get bound in fat to protect you, if you think that might be an issue.
But whatever you do, don't stop! Even I would see a couple of pound gain toward the end of the week with insanity, and I'm a smurf! I could see it wasn't extra bad weight (my clothes were getting looser, even though the scale weight was cycling up and down--and it was too quick for muscle). But it was a bit distressing in the beginning … until I realized the pattern.
Seriously though, just keep doing what you need to--you know whether you're doing it or not... and it WILL work!!!... skip the scale, and use your measuring tape (if you need to measure emoticon)! You’re doing awesome emoticon keep going!!!!

Sometimes I workout hard and the scale still goes up the next day. I feel your pain. I think we all slip up with food too once in a while. Just gotta keep going and do better the next day emoticon

I don't even own a scale. I was weighed by the Marine Corps after doing Insanity for 3 weeks and it was the same as it was last time I was weighed. What counted was that I had lost inches off of my waist, clothes fit better, etc. Currently the only exercise program I'm doing is Insanity after slacking during the summer emoticon

It can be frustrating when you concentrate on weight only. Think of your successes, lost inches, increased ability to workout longer, more energy, and the list goes on. You're doing fantastic so keep it up.

Keep at it, you will see a difference. I agree with making sure you are drinking enough water but one thing you did not mention was how is your nutrition? What calories in take are you getting in each day and how clean is your diet.

many people that start a program like this do not give their bodies enough time to "show" some results. What changes you cant see are the the ones inside that have to happen before the ones outside. It took us all years to get to the point we decided to do something about how we look, we have to give ourselves more than a few weeks to see some changes.

Keep up the great job you are doing. Give yourself permission to celebrate showing up each day to work out! I'd be happy to run your numbers for you if you'd like to make sure you are at the correct calorie in take as well.

Hi there,

I just finished round 1 yesterday and I have my photos posted on this thread. I don't focus on the scale because even as someone who is at 300 lbs. I am building muscle and loosing fat. I eat super clean (about 90%) and I am very consistent with Insanity, only missing 2 days. I focus on my inches, blood pressure, clothing size.... all things the scale can not account for.

I am down 33.5 inches this round, 5 inches off of my waist. The scale has barely budged... so I don't weigh myself. there is no doubt I am having great success on the program. In the total 30 lbs I have lost in the past year I have lost 5 dress sizes. That is a LOT!

I weigh more than you do and I would love to see 290 and I know I will. But between now and then, I am going to keep pushing play because the inches are falling off.

I posted my pictures today on this thread. Check it out. On page one is day 1 vs. 63 and on page 4 is the progress pictures. Trust me, keep it up and change will come.

I am happy to walk you through what I did and how I changed my mindset if you like. Just send me a message.

My weight fluctuates all the time also and I know it can be frustrating but keep working and you'll see results. I'm halfway through my second round now and the results are awesome. Just know you're bettering yourself, anything that really makes you better won't come easy. Just don't give up!

Hey there,

Do not get frustrated. I went through the same thing as you are going through right now. Ditch the scale and keep taking pics because you will see the change. I just finished round 1 of Insanity and I almost quit because I did not see changes right away. However, now I am a new woman. I lost many, many inches and mostly the change occured during month 2. Hang in there, you can!

The batteries in my scale died when I first started Insanity, and that's probably the best thing that could have happened to me! I knew that if I weighed myself constantly that it would be killer for my motivation, especially after what I have heard about how many people don't see results with weight until month 2. When I was halfway through month 1, I was very discouraged because I didn't feel like I had any results. However, I finished today and I took my after pics, and I am SO EXCITED! Believe me, month 2 is where you will really, really see those results. Just hang in there. . . I am going to the store in just a little bit to get new batteries for my scale. Keep pushing play!!! It will work!!!

Month starts Monday. Didn't see any changes in Month 1 but I feel better overall and I can definitely tell that I have lost a little in my waist. I'm no longer weighing myself because that will cause me to quit!! Hopefully I'll see a little change in Month 2...

Keep going for sure! When you take your pics, put your first pick right next to your latest pic.

You and I have tummy in common. Here is what I am noticing... while my waist measurement is not dropping like mad at the moment here is what I am seeing (does not show in pictures well yet)...

My tummy is being pulled up, then the top of my tummy is smoothing down. So when the "peak" of my tummy was right under my chest, now it is more than the height of my fist down, that is where the peak is. So is is smoothing down. Another thing is, as my belly fat gets less, I am building abs under neath. So it is almost like the fat is really jelly like under my skin. This is a graphic description but, when we have what you and I have, it takes time for you to really see the change in your pictures. How are your shirts fitting now in other places?

For me, even though I have had a lot of change in the last 75 days, I don't think the significant change will come until after I am done with round 2 and into my next program. My first goal is for me to not have the belly flap any more, for the skin to not be on top of each other. I really want that change and I do focus on it a lot.

Keep improving your eating, that does make a big difference, keep eating better, keep improving in this area for sure.

I hope this helps you as I understand your frustration. We are not going to look like the other after pictures after 1 round, but we are going to be a whole heck of a lot closer than when we started out on day 1. I will tell you week 8 a LOT of things were noticeably changed.

Keep going! Email me if you have another other questions! You know I am here!

Round 1 complete. No visual results for me, but I do feel much better, I have more energy, and clothes are fitting much better. All the jumping really beat up on my knees so before I start round 2, I will be taking a break and start again in January 2013. In order to stay active, I plan to do the fit test daily. It's a tough program and didn't think I was going to make it through, but I did. Hopefully round 2 will produce some visual results!!
