My twin brother and I are going through Insanity: The Asylum together for the next 30 days. Even though we are 1000 miles apart, we are keeping each other accountable to finishing the journey and getting the best results possible! Yesterday, we did the Performance Assessment AND Strength and Agility. Bad idea!!! It took an hour and 15 minutes total and it was the TOUGHEST WORKOUT EVER! I texted him after I finished and told him if he lived closer and if I could actually lift my arms, I'd punch him right in the face! Did you start the Asylum yesterday? What was it like for you?

Just finished up the Asylum Strength workout! That was, by far, the toughest total body resistance workout I've done. I burned over 700 calories in 45 minutes and my heart rate was skyrocketing higher than the national debt! Who knew you could burn so many calories in a strength workout? What?!

I recently finished Insanity and am now just starting Asylum for the first time. Looks like I'm only 1 day ahead of you. I just did Back to Core today, which was light on cardio but it was a tough one, since there's a lot of focus on those often-neglected back muscles. My back is all sore now.

I really liked the Strength workout...a nice change from all the cardio from Insanity. I started with 20 lb weights, which was somewhat easy, so I think next time I'll increase it to 25 lbs. The Rock Climber Pull-up Switch was killer though. I think after 1 rep, I ended up on the floor. lol

I found the Speed and Agility workout difficult, in part b/c I had trouble with the ladder routines...I'll have to review the footwork in slow mo, b/c it was so fast I couldn't tell where to place my feet.

Good luck on your journey. Hopefully, I can finish this program too.

Thanks for posting! I did the dumbbell alternative to the pull up loved since I have a doorframe pull up bar an was a little concerned about it's sturdiness through all the rock climber set. That looked crazy tough though! Actually, it was ALL tough!

I did a round of Insanity a few months back and I'm glad Shaun T really switched things up and brought it to a new level with these routines. I'm also gla that the agility ladder has only been used in the fit test and speed workout so far. My footwork was so sloppy!

I believe we can both finish strong and get totally shredded! Let's keep digging deep!

I also recently finished Insanity and moved right into Asylum after a week break. I started on Mon w/ the Performance Assessment, did Speed/Agility yesterday . Yesterday I burned 900 calories in the Agility workout, and I had to just stop every once in a while because my HR monitor was beeping at me that I hit 95% of my max heart rate. Looking forward to the Strength workout today.

I struggled a bit yesterday because my workout space doesn't quite allow me to do everything as exactly as shown w/ the agility ladder (seems like you basically need a 9' x 9' square at a minimum), but I think I'm going to like Asylum more than Insanity because of the variety.

I can't get over how ripped Shaun T. is compared to Insanity...dude must be like 4% bodyfat in Asylum. His eyes look all sunken and his face is a little gaunt. Maybe that's why he's not as "friendly" in this one.

That's what's up! I had to move my workout space around to accommodate the agility ladder drills and it's definitely worth it if you can find some extra room. It doesn't make it any easier, but you can get better range of motion, especially on the Plank Shoulder Taps and other push-up moves.

It's funny that you pointed out Shaun T's demeanor on this one...he's definitely become more of a "drill instructor" type in this one. It's kind of scary. I'm glad he's not actually in my living room screaming at me!

Today was "Back to Core" and I found that it was a LOT less intense than the other routines so far and allowed for more focused and controlled moves, especially in the latter half of the workout. The warm-up with all the jumping jacks definitely got the HR soaring and I had to take a lot more breaks than the allotted one second that he gives you.

I've also been preparing myself for the new routines by reading or watching some reviews of each workout. This way I know a little more about what to expect before I press play.

What kind of results did you get with Insanity?

To answer your question on Insanity, I definitely felt an improvement in my cardio fitness after my first round. I also lost some body fat...I can now see my 6 abs as opposed to the single big one I had before. lol

Here are my fit test results.
1st - Final
Switch kicks: 62 - 66
Power jacks: 42 - 59
Power knees: 77 - 125
Power jumps: 28 - 66
Globe jumps: 6 - 11
Suicide jumps: 17 - 18
Push-up jacks: 20 - 36
Low plank obliques: 42 - 67

I'm also previewing the vids for Asylum. When you preview 'Vertical Plyo', you'll have a good chuckle when the 'drill instructor' yells at the other folks in the video. emoticon

That's awesome! I'm hoping my "one big ab" will transform into 6 by the end of Asylum! I've seen some incredible success stories that give me hope! From the reviews of Vertical Plyo, I know I'm in for some pure craziness today when I press play. And as intimidated as I am, I'm gonna give it all I've got!

Whew...just got punished by Shaun T in Asylum: Vertical Plyo! He meant business on this one! There's no way I could keep up with him today...two breaths worth of a break is just not enough! I was huffing and puffing like the big bad wolf!

Vertical Plyo's on deck for me tomorrow. I'm not watching any previews so I'm just going into these cold not really knowing what to expect (but based on your post, I'm expecting pain). Back to Core today was surprisingly low impact - i liked it MUCH better than Max Recovery in Insanity. And in general I'm loving Asylum so far. Definitely puts P90x to shame.

My Insanity results were good, but not quite as good as I was hoping for. I didn't do measurements besides weight and belt loops, and I dropped 17 lbs (234 to 217, at 6'1") and 3 belt loops. Still nowhere close to seeing my abs though...I seem to carry a lot of my fat around my gut and love handles. And I was really diligent on my diet (2200-2400 cals/day, 40% protein, 40% carbs, 20% fat; one cheat meal per week).

I'm thinking I'll do Asylum for 30d, then Asylum/P90X hybrid for 30 days, then Asylum/Insanity hybrid for 30 days. My goal is to have 6 visible abs by Spring Break 2013. I'm thinking I'll need to get down to 180-185, so I got a ways to go.

Those are some really good results for your round of Insanity! I started at 233lbs with P90X and dropped 27 lbs in the first round. I'm now down to 178 and STILL need to shed some more fat/skin around my midsection to see my abs. Every body is different though and I'm hoping and praying that Asylum will get me there!

Speed & Agility was tough yesterday because I did it around 9pm after a LONG day of painting! I usually work out in the afternoons but I knew I couldn't skip a day without it throwing me off! Does the workout count if I spent half of it in child's pose? Boy, those Bear Crawls are no joke!

I'm about to press play on Strength and excited about digging deep! How are you guys doing?

I just finished day 8 (back to core) today. Not feeling too great b/c I pulled a back muscle doing Strength yesterday, so I may stop a day or 2 to recover first. Today's workout probably just added insult to injury.

I still find Speed and Agility rough...of the 4 workouts so far, I think that one's the toughest for me.

That Strength routine is definitely hard on the back! I've had a few problems here and there myself. I've found myself crumpled on the floor in the evening, just a few hours after the workout, from a pinched nerve or pulled muscle. I haven't had any problems during the workouts though, so I keep pressing play everyday.

Definitely listen to your body and take a couple days to recover if you need to...I had to do that during a round of P90X based on orders from my chiropractor. I didn't like taking the time off at all because I felt like it would slow down my results.

Back to Core is on deck for me today...I kind of like the slow pace of this routine in comparison to the others. It feels like a little bit of a break even though it really blasts both the back and the core with those pulses and holds.

Let's keep diggin' deep, guys!

Hey pnatey34!

Just saw this post on the boards and was wondering if too late to join the group? I started my first round of Asylum last week with my FIT test on the 22nd. I just completed Day 7, Speed and Agility this morning. JFYI, I have done 2 rounds of Insanity and one round of P90X, but Asylum is a good kick in the rear end!

Hoping it's not too late to join and to motivate each other to push thru this!

Thanks pnatey34! And hello to everyone in this group! I have been exercising with Beachbody for over a year now but never joined one of these groups for support and motivation so I am excited and looking forward to pushing thru with all of ya!

Today was Day 7, Strength. I had a hard time getting out of bed this morning but once I did, I had a great workout! In just that first week, I performed better and more reps than last week. Maybe because I am more familiar with the moves, but I felt really good as I pushed thru!!! Finished in a pool of my own sweat!!! Gotta love that!

Again...I am excited about motivating each other and pushing thru...so KEEP PUSHING PLAY!

Hey guys,

quick update here, week 2 starting well so far,
vert plyo tonight and relief tomorrow, though I may go straight to gameday as I have half marathon on sunday and will not workout friday/saturday (or low pace something)
So far this third round of asylum is going quite well,
First week was tough especially on calves as usual with Shaun T, but second time doing each workout was just fine emoticon

I can wait to be done with this round and start Volume 2!

Welcome IkeShooter! Did Vertical Plyo today (day 9). I'm not sure if it's b/c I took a day off yesterday, but my legs felt stiff and just the warmup was killing me (esp the frog jumps)... anyway, I'm glad tomorrow's Relief!

Yes, keep pushing play and let's all suffer together! ;)
