UNLEASH YOUR BEAST Challenge
body beast body beast challenge unleash your beast
11/5/12 6:36 AM
My name is Joe Petri and I'm a Power 90, P90X and Turbo Jam graduate and a Beachbody Coach. I'm starting Body Beast on Monday, November 4th and I'm going back to basics. I'm going back to the root of my success with Beachbody programs and that is posting on the Message Boards and organizing a Challenge.

This is a Body Beast specific challenge but all are welcome to post and share their insights and experiences. This thread is opened to everyone. I don't have to be your Coach to join.

I am starting Body Beast Monday, November 4th. Feel free to start with me or just jump in on the day you are ready to begin.

I'm only going to ask a few things from the members who post on this thread:

1) Keep all your post positive, supportive and encouraging
2) Share and post at least once a day
3) Do Whatever It Takes

I'll be back in a bit to share more of my story and where I've come from and why I've decided to go with Body Beast. emoticon

A little about me...

I'm starting Body Beast on Monday.

For equipment I'm using the stability ball and BowFlex Dumbbells. I'm going to try and to the opposite of most Beasters and that's drop weight, primarily fat so I'll be running the meal plan in reverse. Not consuming the 3,500 calories the book told me too but sticking to about 1800 to 2200 calories with focus on high protein similar to that seen in the P90X meal plan.

My goals are not to get huge but to just get cut up and jacked again. I could be doing P90X but I need something different and I love the results I'm seeing and my goal is to simply transfer mass that I've built up on my ass and in my waist to my upper body. Losing some mass 10 to 15 lbs during the next 90 days would be a plus too.

Lets see what I can do. :0)

As for my back story and where I've come from instead of typing it all out I've embed a video I made.

Hi Joe,

I would love to join your challenge group. I started the beast just over a week ago and can't believe how much I enjoy it. Today is day 8 (legs) and although I know it will absolutly destroy me, I can't wait to get to it.

I'm looking forward to having someone (or a group) to share my experiences with. Seems most groups doing body beast are either finished with round one or just about to finish. It will be nice to not have to go through this alone.

Let's get "Beasty"!!

Most definitely Kelley! Welcome to the thread. Did you do all your pics and measurements? I just finished mine.

Here they are from day 1:

Day 1 - 11/5/12

Measurements:
Weight - 207.8 lbs
Body Fat % - 24.5
Waist - 41
Hips - 44.5
Chest - 45.5
Right Arm - 15.5
Left Arm - 15.5
Right Thigh - 26.5
Left Thigh - 26.5

Step 1 - Lean Body Mass (LBM): [100 - 24.5] / 100 x 207.8 = 156.9 LBM
Step 2 - Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR): 156.9 x 10 = 1569 RMR
Step 3 - Caloric Modification for Recover (CMR): 1569 x .3 = 470.7 CMR
Step 4 - Resting Metabolic Rate for Recovery (RMR2): 1569 + 470 = 2039 RMR2
Step 5 - Caloric Intake to Maintain Weight (CIM) = 2039 + 600 = 2639 CIM

I plan on cutting body from the get go so I will eat about 2000 calories and about 50% protein right from the get go. I will adjust as needed but I plan on doing this for at least the first 30 days.

My pictures are soon to follow.

Day 1 of Body Beast done. Kept my weights simple. Needed to test to see where I was at and make sure my form was good. Plus being on the ball added an extra dynamic to the lift. Excited to see how I progress over the next 90 days.

I use the BowFlex Selectech Dumbbells for my workouts and I just ordered the EZ curl bar.

What brand of weights does everyone use?

Great job completing day 1 Joe. It really is humbling to do tricep push-ups after everything that preceeds it. You'll have to let me know how you feel tomorrow. My chest was screaming for 3-4 days after this workout. Thankfully, the second time around wasn't as bad.

Today I did day 10 -- build shoulders and beast abs. I went up on all my weights. I also use bowflex selectec (sp?) dumbells and ez-bar. I use a bench. I'm sure stabilizing on a ball makes the workout even more difficult.

I did take pics and measurements, I'll put them in a subsequent post.

Thanks for setting up this challenge. I look forward to watching your progress as well as mine!

OK, measurements as of 10/22/12:

Weight: 125.0 lbs
% BF (According to my scale): 32.2%
Neck: 12.25"
R Arm: 12" Flexed
L Arm: 12.25" Flexed
Chest: 35.5" Expanded
Waist: 26"
Hips: 38.24"
R Thigh: 23
R Calf: 14.5

It's tough to put the actual numbers up here for all to see, but I think it's an important part of being accountable.

Hey all

I am starting Body Beast today as well. I haven't done my measurements yet, but will once I get the kids to bed.

I've completed P90X (5 rounds), Insanity (2 rounds) and P90X2 (1 round). I have been living in an "off season" for about 5 months...as in, I haven't had a specific training regimen or goal, just maintenance.

I chose Body Beast at this time as I am in the Navy and this is a program that is very doable while in the ship's gym, and I am sailing alot over the next 3 months.

Looking forward to the challenge.

I totally hear you on the numbers. My leanest I was 176 with p90x+ and the last three years I have struggled with I juries, discipline and weight, very humbling to post those pics and my numbers today. Really lad you shared yours. It's not easy and it's nice knowing you're not the only one sharing.

Did Day 1.........HOLY CRAP! It has been a long time since I've hurt like that. My cardio is pretty solid and I have pushed it hard in the past. I've also done weight training in the past. But this workout was a tough mudder! I am feeling pretty musch spent. Hitting the hay and getting up early with the kiddies and to do it all again tomorrow.

Measurements

Weight - 215 lbs
BF% - 19.4 %
Waist - 38
Hips - 36
Chest - 46.5
Right Arm - 17.5
Left Arm - 17
Right thigh - 22.5
Left thigh - 19.25

Meal Plan
(80.5/100)*215 = 173.075 (LBM)
LBM*10 = 1730.75 (RMR)
RMR*0.3=519.225 (CMR)
RMR+CMR = 2249.975(RMR2)
RMR2 + 600 = 2849.975 (CIM)

to Build/Bulk (@215lbs)
10% of CIM = 284.9975
CIM + 10% of CIM = 3134.9725

Anyone use the Fuel Shot? If yes, what do you mix it with? Thinking about adding it with OJ but man there are a lot of carbs in this mix. Do you use it everyday? What are your thoughts?

I do not use the fuel shot since I don't need to take in as many calories as you guys do. But with the program calling for 50% carb intake, I could see it's benefits.

I'm also not using the Super Suma, but would like to hear any advice on this matter. I'm not sure if it will help me as a female or if gender doesn't really matter with it.

Today should be my rest day, but since it will be impossible to get a workout in tomorrow, I'm swapping days with Build Chest & Tris. I'm excited for this workout. It's a "Beast", but gives such an awesome pump!

Joe and Potsy, how's the soreness today?

Joe - I haven't tried the Fuel shot yet. I have other suppliments that I may combine with the Beast plan to try and get similar results.

Sherm - I don't feel too bad to day. The burn is good post workout burn that I actually really enjoy.

Today is legs. If it is anything like Chest/Tris this should be good. Can't wait.

As for posting numbers, I agree it is intimidating, but I like the ones I have now compared to where I started. My leanest was 205. I am hoping to get there or stay where I am at but with a much much lower BF%...especially around the midsection where I store the vast majority of that BF.

Chest and Tris are done... it's amazing how much faster my muscles are recovering now. I've adapted to the speed with which Sagi moves, and actually started many of the moves before he did. My muscles are still shaking by the end of the workout, but my weights are going up and it feels awesome.

So glad to share this 90 days with you guys.

Here's my list of supplements I'm taking during the first 30 days of Body Beast:

Breakfast:

P90X Peak Health Formula

Pre-workout Supplement:

Beachbody's Performance Formula
Super Suma

Post-Workout:

Beachbody's Men's Strength and Muscle Formula

Snack:

Shakeology
Iso Pure Zero Carb Whey Protein

Need to add back in my Omega 3's. And if you can't tell, I'm a pretty big Beachbody Supplement Junkie.

Legs will be sore tomorrow. Triceps are sore and will probably be more sore tomorrow. Chest not that bad today but I'm betting tomorrow will be worse.

Sherm - Suma Root used to be in Shakeology and there are such huge benefits for taking this plan besides Body Beast especially for Woman. I would Google it and do some research but I know that the folks at Beachbody were not very happy when they pulled it from Shakeology. They did so because it was showing a False Positive for Steroids when athletes (amateur and professional) were being tested.
