Insanity vs. P90X
Insanity vs. P90X
p90x insanity cardio strength

I know that this is a common question, but here's my deal:
* I'm a 25 year old woman who is very physically active.
* I'm almost done with Insanity, I really like it and I'm pretty good at it.
* I'm looking for something that is just as, or even slightly more, challenging than Insanity, that incorporates cardio and strength training (I do Kung Fu and want to condition more for it)
* This is my second run through Insanity, so some variety would be awesome.
* I want something that burns a lot of calories

My options seem to be either Insanity Asylum, P90X, or an Insanity/P90X hybrid. Any recommendations from people who have done any of those?

Thanks!

dear jeanmarie,

Congrats on just about being an Insanity graduate! That is fantastic. Now you gotta get yourself that tshirt, that is the best. How are your results?

I think it would be better if you do asylum vol 1 and vol 2 if it possible. Also do Upper Body Weight Training from insanity from 2-3 times a week to get more strength in your upper body. if you do this I think its enough or maybe too much since you doing Kung Fu.

Again, congrats!!

I will finish insanity on 8th nov and do the fit test on the 9th of nov then start with asylum on the 10th or 11th. I'm also looking for buddies to join me though asylum journey.

jeanmarie87,

To answer your question, it all depends on your goals. Now, I understand you have done 2 round of Insanity, and are looking for something a little more intensive to condition your body. My questions are, are you looking to add a little muscle (tone up), or add more cardio?

P90X is not as intense as Insainty, but will definitely still challenge you. With P90X there are 3 ways to go about it. You have the Lean option, which will increase your cardio, but will not make you look big a bulky. The classic option, can still keep you lean, or heavy up the weights for a little more bulk. And of course, there is Doubles, which you can add size, or stay lean, but at least 3 times per week starting at Phase 2, you do 2 workouts per day.

I would not recommend you doing an Insanity/P90X hybrid until you have at least completed each program at least once already.

If this does not interest you, as sorlen suggest above, you can try for Insanity Asylum.

If you have any more questions, I'll be more than happy to answer them for you emoticon

- Andrew

Hi Jeanmarie!

I think P90X/Insanity hybrid is great. Ideally, doing P90X my itself first. I have done it! I do think though based on your goals, Aslyum may be the better choice- you can then hybrid with Insanity. You will get your butt kicked emoticon How ling have you done Kung Fu? So cool!

Cheers,
Christina

Thanks so much everyone! My fitness goals are more so to improve both my strength and cardio - strength to hold kung fu stances longer and deeper and do more push ups, and cardio to be able to run a Tough Mudder this Spring (I also like fitting into my size 0 pants). I'm thinking about P90X2. I saw the Doubles option and it looks great, but I'm in grad school so I only have time for one work out per day, though if I had the time, I would definitely do the Doubles version. My instinct now is to start with P90X2, and see how I feel. I also have Asylum (I'm ready for the next year of work outs). Right now I'm thinking: P90X2, P90X2/Insanity Hybrid, Asylum, then Insanity/Asylum hybrid. I love Insanity, but it'd be cool to try a slightly different challenge.

Does anyone know if P90X2 is more challenging than P90X?

PS - Probably my only aesthetic goal is to flatten my stomach a bit more, I'm thin, but I'd like a toned tummy. Does anyone know which work out would be best for that?

Hi Jeanmarie,
Congrats on your progress so far! I also love Insanity myself! I have not ventured to the Asylum yet but I am sure it's just as awesome! I see you are looking for some strength suggestions. I actually have done both P90x and P90x2. I like the first one more than I did the second one. It gave me a lot of muscle definition that I didn't know I could even achieve! Currently I am doing a P90x/Insanity hybrid and loving it! I wanted something to give me the cardio and strength!

Both P90x and P90x2 programs are great and you will defiantly see results out of either, just remember the "12-15 rule" and you will not get bulky emoticon Any questions, feel free to ask!

Happy Lifting.emoticon
