Need Advice on P90X
Need Advice on P90X
11/4/12 2:31 PM
Hey, I set up a plan for how I am going to do the P90X starting next Wednesday, and just wanted some advice on whether or not my strategy will work/ what I can do to make it more effective. I am mostly looking to get more fit/lean, and to get more visible muscles.

My Stats:

Gender: Male
Age: 16
weight: 162
%BF = ~16%

My Plan:

Workout:
I will simply do the P90X everyday after school ( usually between 1:00 - 3 or 4 ish)
Diet:
I will be eating around 2200 Calories A day, 35% carbs 35% protein 30% fat, and eating 5 times a day ( Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, 2 snacks )

Please feel free to give me extra tips on how to maximize my results, or to point out any fundemental flaws in my plan if you happen to see any.

Thanks,

Hey dude,

Sounds like you are going to be fine. One thing I would suggest is follow the program. Why are you deviating from fat shredder in the first phase? I always tell everyone to at least go through fat shredder than change it up for the next 2 phases. Another thing, you are young but don’t get in the habit of lifting more than you can. You really can get hurt, and don’t skip the warm ups. Keep posting to show your progress.

I would agree with Charlie. The P90X has a very wise program in the Fat Shredder in terms of the balance of protein, carbs and fat. I've been doing it for over six weeks now. The program offers you a suggested change for your next two phases, but you also have the option of sticking with the Fat Shredder--which I chose to do, since it works for me and since it has a higher protein balance than the other two options.

Basically, if you're going for fit/lean and more visible muscles, as you say, then I would strongly recommend that you follow the ENTIRE program as closely as possible. It's only for 90 days, so how hard could that be?

To prove my point based on my own experience, I've trimmed off 21 lbs. in a mere 43 days without starving myself at all. I've simply followed the program as closely as possible. I've also cut my body fat down by about 6%, have taken my belt in three notches and have significantly reduced my blood pressure. No kidding. And I'm not even halfway yet.

Good luck.

Hey, I am 5 ft 10 1/2 Mike, and thanks for the advice so far guys.

I want to follow the Fat Shredder diet, but with school I don't have the time to commit to the meticulous details involved in cooking my own meals, so I am using a service known as "The Fresh Diet". They help with preparing meals, but their formula is 35/35/30. Will this be ok, or is it worth the extra effort to follow the Fat Shredder higher protein % guidelines?

If you really have weight to loose I also suggest following the fat shredder if you can...I understand it is not always practical as well so if you can't you will be ok but just may not see the results you would have otherwise.

With your numbers I calculate you to have a caloric input of around 2300 calories/day using the Harris Benedict Equation method which I like more than the one in P90X (it is the one Insanity uses btw).

Hey Mike, Does that mean i should be eating about 2300 a day to lose weight, or I should be eating ~1800 a day?

Thanks

Sorry for not being clear...2300 has the 500 calories/day deficit already...to maintain your weight when working out hard in these programs you would be taking in around 2800/day...so I already reduced that to get to your 2300...keep it within the protein/carb/fat ratios too...

Let me know if you have anything else...
