Night shift

I currently work night shift and I find it hard to eat correctly, especially since I don't work everyday. I suppose I just need insight on a routine eating schedule that will help me achieve my goals

This has been discussed a lot on these boards. Search using the "search here" box at the top of the page using criteria like "night shift" and "swing shift". You'll find lots of useful info from people dealing with the same schedule.

I currently work night shift as well and would be glad to help! I work from 10:15pm until 7:00am. Here's what a typical day for me looks like, just to give you an idea of how I arrange things:

3am (breakfast): I try to stay around 400 calories and tend to choose things that are high in protein. Since I am at work and do not have a full kitchen at my disposal, it tends to be a lot of oatmeal, granola, cereal, etc.
7am - off of work
7:30am - Shakeology
8:15am - workout (I am currently doing Insanity)
9:45am - Recovery drink
10:00am - NAPTIME!!
2:15pm - wake up to get my daughter from school
4:30pm - Dinner - usually between 400-600 calories
5:15pm - back to bed
8:15pm - wake up and get ready for work
9:30pm - arive at work and have a snack and coffee
10:15pm - Start time!!

I would love to help you try to establish a schedule and perhaps choose a workout program. I will send you a friend request and we can go from there!

Christy

I have the same issue. Same 12 hour schedule and also pick kids up from the bus. Plus I also have a 45 minute commute to tangle with. I liek to do my workouts after I pick kids up from the bus. That way I can just jump right into the shower and get ready for work. My nutrition tends to flucuate when I switch from a night shift to day off. I try to just flip-flop my schedule on those nights when I am working (breakfast at 3p, lunch around 12, and then "dinner" right before my shift ends). When I am not scheduled to work the next night, I only sleep for a few hours so that I can sleep the next night. On those days, I typically cut out breakfast (I know, I know it's blasphemy!)and start in with my mid morning snack. When I do not work one night, but work the next, I sleep in a little longer and add an extra meal in there somewhere. This seems to balance out the breakfasts that I skip some days. The calorie count never seems to work out the way it seems like it should, but if you figure it up as a weekly average the numbers come out about the same. Good luck to you!!
