Why am I not burning fat?

I've done several rounds of P90X and am working on another. I can't seem to burn the fat I would like to. Im 143lbs, 18 years old, and eating about 2100 calories a day, increased from 1800 because I didn't think that was enough and counterproductive. Any suggestions?

Your metabolism at the age is probably crazy high. 2100 calories is probably a joke for you. That furnace eats that easy.

I'd up to about 2600 minimum. There is a reason I could eat a whole pizza a day as an 18 year old and not gain weight.

I'd also ask where those calories are coming from. Are they nutrient dense foods?

ShakeO in the morning, protein bar and almonds for a snack, 5oz lean meat (chicken, ground turkey, cod) and about 4.5 cups of veggies, 6 egg whites and protein powder, after I workout my recovery drink and protein powder, then 3 hours before bed 5oz of lean meat and more veggies. I eat every 2.5 to 3 hours

Wow, almost your entire diet is protein.

Don't get me wrong, protein is important, but you need some balance with fat and carbs too.

My first thought would be to drop the protein bar in your snack and add a piece of fruit instead. Next, I'd think about drizzling a tablespoon or so of olive oil over your veggies to add some much-needed fat.

Lastly, I don't think you really need that protein powder with your recovery drink. Instead, add maybe 1/2 an avocado to your dinner veggies.

I think the above changes would help in that they'd (a) balance your diet better, and (b) add in more whole foods in place of supplements (bar/powder).

What's your height? That plays a factor as well. Are you measuring waist size or using calipers to measure your fat loss and progress?

Analyze your food choices and make sure you're eating as clean as possible. Eating every 3 hours or so will help speed up your metabolism as well. You may even try to do the P90X cardio DVD more often. Cardio and diet is the best way to burn stubborn body fat.

At 5'6" and 145 I don't think the issue is needing to lose weight. You're growing still and just need to feed your body well and give it exercise. You will grow muscle and transform like you want without "losing" anything.

I agree with all the feedback above about dietary changes.

maybe P90x isnt the right workout for your body type? Maybe you need something with more intense cardio. Try Insanity or Turbo Fire

If his/her metabolism is crazy high then why no weight loss?

Do you feel like you have good form down for all the exercises? Do you feel like you've gotten a great workout every time? Incorrect form without realizing it can have huge impacts on your progress over time. You want to make sure your form is spot on for each exercise so you can get the most out of your workouts. At your weight, you are obviously not overweight and still have alot of potential for growth. Maybe your body would respond better to another program? Do you use Shakeology?

What has your doctor told you? What is your bodyfat percentage? If the percentage is low already, does your doctor have concerns with overexercising to the point of being unhealthy? If you only use the calipers, they have been notoriously inaccurate. Have your doctor do an immersion body density test or buy a weight/bodyfat scale. What is the purpose of doing p90x? Weight loss, fat loss, improved fitness??? Does your diet vary, because you seem to be VERY protein heavy? I'd also like to see a pic... I want to see what YOU think of your body image. My concern is that you are so focused on numbers, that your real fitness may be suffering. Not an accusation, just a concern.
