Here goes!

I am really new to blogging and threads. I know there is a lot of value in accountability and encouragement. I posted my first blog yesterday and will paste it below and reply with my post from today which has results for the first time doing the Fit Test.

-----------

Ok, this marks the start of my first ever blog entry...not just here at TeamBeachbody, but online period! It also marks that start of my journey through the INSANITY program.

My plan is to start tomorrow (11/7/12). I have even spent some time this past weekend "previewing" the videos to see what I was in for and it looks crazy, but in a good way! It's not hard to see how this program snaps you into shape and produces results! As I look at the schedule that came with my DVDs (and based on my own beliefs, too), I like the idea of resting on Sundays so I guess I will begin tomorrow and then return to the beginning of the schedule on Monday so that I'm consistent with where the breaks are on the calendar.

I'm excited to get going but a little nervous at the same time - not sure why. I may be nervous because of my work schedule and trying to plan meals to pack (I work 2 jobs and usually leave at 8am and, at times, don't get back home until 8:30pm) and when during my day to eat them. I'm sure sooner or later I’ll get it worked out.

I'm looking forward to my transformation and returning to a healthier lifestyle. I mentioned in my bio that I have diabetes on both sides of my family and I want to do all that I can to prevent it. I'm looking forward to trimming up and fitting back into the clothes I was able to wear 5 or 6 years ago when I weighed 175 pounds - medium size shirts, size 32 waist pants. It'll be an awesome feeling and a great accomplishment! My true intent would be to not only be able to fit in them again, but for them to be a little loose... baby steps though. I'm not going to focus on the pounds, but on the body fat percentage with a goal of reaching the teens.

Here goes! I know I can do this!!!

I just completed the Fit Test for the first time.

It was pretty rough during the test. At one point, I had to stop and take a longer break than what was on the DVD. I felt like I was going to throw up. At that moment, I was feeling pretty discouraged but kept pushing, taking another longer break after the next move. I did do the Fit Test on an empty stomach...big mistake!

As I'm typing, I feel much better. I can feel the weak/shaky/achy muscles that I remember feeling in the past after a good workout, so all's good and I know this is going to be ok. :-)

Here are my numbers:

FIT TEST Day 1

Switch Kicks: 100
Power Jacks: 22
Power Knees: 55
Power Jumps: 22
Globe Jumps: 6
Suicide Jacks: 7
Push-up Jacks: 10
Low Plnk Ob.: 20

HEART RATE MONITOR
Avg Heart Rate: 139
Peak Heart Rate: 186
Min. Heart Rate: 30 (not sure if that's completely accurate)
Total Calories: 322
Workout time: 39.04 minutes

Weight: 241

LOTS of room for improvement! Looking forward to it!

That's great!!! I'm on Day 5 today and I'm gonna do two workouts tommorrow so Sunday can be my rest day. I've already saw great change in my leg strength. Granted the first two workouts, I stopped a few mintues early and even on the third but I pushed myself harder on the third day!!! I don't have any income right now so I'm unable to buy the program so I've been doing online videos of a person doing the excersizes but I can tell you it's working!!! I tried a sample of Shakeology this morning and it's not bad and I plan on getting a supply soon...don't know about every month cause it's expensive but maybe every other month...we'll see how that goes but get ready to feel great!!! Again, I'm only on day five and I feel good enough to do two of them tommorrow...though I was in average shape to begin with considering I dropped 90 lbs from December of last year to now but Insanity still kicks my butt...PUSH, PUSH, AND PUSH HARD TO GET GREAT RESULTS!!!

Jon, that's great that you pushed the play button. I travel a lot. About 35 weeks this year so I understand your thoughts on eating. The best advice i can give you is to plan. On my rest day I go to the grocery store and plan my meals. I have found now that you can by single serve portions of rice and veggies that take minutes to cook in the microwave.
I strongly believe in the saying, "failure to plan is planning for failure."

I just started 3 days ago. Yes it is tough but remember a little pain now will pay off in a lot of ways 60 days from now. Don't be afraid to hit the pause button. A 40 minute workout is taking me about 50 minutes to complete. I would caution you on your heart rate though. I have been told anything above 175 could be dangerous. Do you have a coach? I am partial to my coach she has been a great resource. I will send you a buddy request so you can view her profile.

In the meantime the Beach Body Brigade is here to help and support you.

How are you monitoring your heartrate and calories? Is there something that comes with the program to do this?

cmommyof3, I'm using a heart rate monitor that I was given for Christmas a few years ago. They aren't too expensive and can be found at any sports store or probably even Target/Walmart, etc

Not to discourage you but I think you counted switch kicks wrong its 2 kicks = 1 rep.

Oh! Umm, yup! I was counting each kick and not each "set". Thanks for the correction!

You can buy heart rate monitors at Walmart that don't have a chest strap...I tried a chest strap but it wasn't working right so I will be buying one without one and a good one is like 40 bucks without tax included. Also, what are the risks with no having a heart monitor? I'm at 5'7", 143.8 lbs as of this morning and did Day 5 of Insanity today....I've dropped 90 lbs from Dec of last year to today so I am in the average cateogory as far as my height and weight. I have an idea about why you need to monitor your heart rate but want to make sure I have all the correct information. Thanks.

I never believed in a heart rate monitor until now. I do believe it is important to maintain your heart rate in the targeted area in order to maximize the potential loss of calories. I got one from Target that tracks my average heart rate, the number of calories burned, and warns me if I go above or below my targeted window. It cost me $70.

I definitely congratulate you for becoming more concerned about your health and fitness, it is truly a big step to a better life. Currently, I am on day 18 of INSANITY and it is amazing!! Of course, the first day with the Fit Test I felt like I was going to puke (glad to find out I'm not the only one), but by around the 4th day, I felt great emoticon

As far as the heart rate monitor goes, I found a great deal on Amazon for $30 from Isokinetics, which is the watch and the chest strap. They definitely help to make sure you are staying in your aerobic/fat burning zone.

IMO the HR Monitors with the chest strap are the most accurate. The ones without don't seem to work quite right.

After my last entry, I decided to slightly delay my starting date. I really want to follow the pre-established schedule with Sunday as the resting day. So I decided to wait to start Day 2 until the 13th so that I can then follow the calendar that came with the program.

It also is giving me a couple extra days to come up with or plan some standard meals that will work well for packing for work and to also study more of the nutrition guide.

Anyone have suggestions of lower cost easy-to-prep and/or easy-to-pack meals?

Hey everyone,

Congrats on recently starting Insanity, kick butt program for sure. I restarted it last Monday so I am right about where you all are. I haven't done it in about a year so holy cow, it is kicking my butt. I have done other BB workouts in between but there is nothing like Insanity, it always kicks me in high gear so congrats to all of you for doing this one, it is sure to give you some great results.

We actually started a FB group for those of us that started Insanity recently so let me know if you want to join us, the more the merrier. Easier than popping on here you know.

You know, those switch kicks and how you count them, it really doesn't matter as long as you count the exact same way throughout the program. If you are counting each leg as one then do it for every single fit test. If you count both legs as one then same thing, do it the same way throughout the program. You just want to be consistent so you can track your progress.

As far as easy to prep meals and such, if you prep your meals on a Sunday for example for the week that is the best way to go. You want to follow the nutrition plan as much as possible and prepping for a week in advance is the best way. For some it is hard but that is a good plan. I can chat offline if you want.

Good luck everyone and feel free to pop me any questions, I've been at this for quite some time so can help out lots.

Jo

This morning, I completed Day 2 (Plyometric Cardio Circuit). SO good! It's crazy how much energy I had throughout the day! I thought that I would have a higher number of calories burned (420-ish) but I was slowing down quite a bit toward the end.

Good stuff! Looking forward to tomorrow. :-)

This made my heart sink emoticon

...so, I went to the fit test on the dvd. Tanya says she scored 110 switchkicks, I just counted (guesstimating when the camera wasnt on her) and she definitely didnt do 110 switchkick reps. I'm counting mine the way the Insanity crew do it on the dvd, but its all good eh!

100's a good score man! keep up the good work!

I started on the 8th, so if your still going at it, we can help each other along emoticon

ha, pure cardio!! good luck! I'm starting week 2 tmw, so its power and resistance for me. The pure cardio is full on, it doesnt have as many rest breaks as the others, so if you feel you need to, just have them every few minutes anyway, thats what I did.
