What Amount of Weight to Use
What Amount of Weight to Use

With dumbbells I don't know what amount of weight to use when alternating between shoulder and curls. Essentially, I need to know for which (shoulders or biceps) should I use a higher weight as I see them alternating on the DVD with Tony. Please advise.

First off congrats on deciding to go for P90X I have done it twice and it is a great program. Nobody is going to be able to give you an exact weight to use for the program because everyone is different and the fitness levels are different. The way to decided how much to use for each muscle group is by figuring out what you want. If you are trying to get big then you will need a weight that will let you do 8 to 10 reps while really working for the last few. If you are trying to get lean and toned then you want to shoot for 12 to 15 reps. Each muscle group is going to be different for me my biceps are stronger than my shoulders and tris so I tend to go lighter on those while still getting the 8 to 10 rep.

Hope this helps

Thanks, I appreciate the thoroughness of your reply. Btw, presently I am on the Power half-Hour program. Will graduate to a P90x once I shape up to it.

One more question: How can I better target my obliques to lose the handle look? I mean the transverse abdominus area in particular.

That's going to be a matter of overall fat loss as you work through your program with an eye on nutrition, etc.

I agree with Dan diet is going to be the number one thing, In P90X you do V-Ups and in INSANITY you stand on one leg while you bring the oposite knee to elbow. Those are two places you can start.
