Here are a few tips to get you going:
Nutrition
• If you want to see great results, you have to focus on your nutrition as much as the workouts. Nutrition plays a key role in how you will reach your goals and attain the new and better you! Be prepared by getting a solid nutrition plan in place prior to starting. You can do this week-to-week or even plan out your entire month. Over time you will learn new eating habits that you can carry with you for the rest of your life. Avoid anything fried, you should be eating whole foods. The nutrition guide that came with your program is a great way to learn what to eat and how often. You should eat five times a day to keep your metabolism up. Also don't short yourself on calories, I know that the P90X nutrition guide does NOT have a calorie deficit. To drop weight I would consume 500 calories less than what was in the guide. The online tool can be found at the top of the page under eat smart/nutrition tools and will help you figure out what your calorie needs will be.
• Shakeology is a great way to meet all of your nutritional needs! As a meal or a snack it fuels your body with everything it needs in order to BRING IT every day!
Track your progress
Where are you now? Where do you want to be? Have Goals!
• Nothing is more important or motivating than to see where you started and how you are progressing along the way! It is so CRUCIAL that you do the following BEFORE you begin:
• Take your Measurements
• Take your before & after pictures
• Take the fit test
I can’t tell you how many people on my previous threads told me they were so mad at themselves for not doing this before they started.
Write down everything including your reps, your weight and your food intake.
Also utilize the tools that TBB provides. Complete your profile, and track your measurements and weight online. I use MyFitnessPal online to track my food diary as well as my calories burned each day. I would highly recommend signing up and add me as a buddy. My id is hurricanefront. MFP also has apps for iPhone, Andriod, and Blackberry.
Pre-Workout
• These workouts are intense! The right fuel will help your body “Bring It!” with the intensity you need! If you eat a pre-workout meal, is very important to wait about an hour before you work out. Eat too soon and you could end up losing the meal instead of bringing the intensity!

• If you workout first thing in the morning you might want to skip eating and take a pre-fuel 15 minutes prior to working out. Drink about 1/3 of your recovery drink prior to working out. It will give you all the energy you need to complete the toughest workouts.

Post-Workout
Keep in mind the first week is exceptionally rough! Expect to be sore and tired: Do not give up! Your body will adapt quickly and in no time you will start seeing some crazy results. You may want to do a few non-P90X workouts prior to starting just to get your body & mind ready. Do what you like, I love to cycle and I went out on my mountain bike for 2 weeks prior to starting my round of P90X.
• Recovery: After an intense P90X, P90X2, or Insanity workout, it is vital to recover the right way. I cannot stress enough how important this is. By adding a recovery drink immediately after your workout, you will significantly decrease the amount of soreness you will experience while your body recovers. Intense exercise will burn off glycogen stores in the muscles which leaves the body without its primary source of energy. The longer you are in this state, the greater the chances your body will panic and may actually breakdown your existing muscle to create more glycogen—the exact opposite of what we are working for! Plus low blood sugar levels in the brain will lead to fatigue, irritability, lack of concentration, depression, etc. The P90X Recovery Drink will replenish your muscles with glycogen, you will not only avoid muscle breakdown, but you will promote muscle growth and keep your energy levels up. The P90X Recovery Drink is a great product and I highly recommend it.
• Accountability: Post your accountability DAILY on the message boards! This is the key to staying motivated. Here is an interesting statistic I’ve noticed over the past couple of threads I’ve been in. Out of all the people who join the thread and commit to the workouts, less than 20% will complete the full 90 day program! But what I found is, of those of post every day they are 90% likely to complete the program and transform their lives.
The message boards and forums are a great way to meet others that are going through exactly what you are and it helps stay accountable and motivated! Your forum buddies will have tips and information that has helped them and could help you as well. You will be doing the same in no time!
So, ready to get started? First step, post your commitment to join the team, and second, add me as a buddy and I'll give you more important information. I look forward to getting to know you and seeing the new you!

RE: First or next round starting now, come get motivated!

My journey so far.

At age 39 with a wife and 5 year old daughter I found myself at 5'10" and 240 lbs!

I am a former Marine and I used to be in great shape, now may shape was best defined as "round".

Diabetes runs in my family as well as high blood pressure and I was on medication for both.
My blood pressure was just on the high side of normal while on blood pressure meds.
Most dangerous was that my fasting blood sugars were in the 150 range even while on the maximum dose of metformin (an oral medication for type 2 diabetics). My next step was to get on insulin to get my blood sugars in check.

I realized that i was going to end up leaving my wife a widow and my daughter without her daddy. the other possibility was that I would live but end up having a limb or more lopped off due to the complications from diabetes. What's more is that I had been told by several doctors that my type 2 diabetes was due to my lifestyle and that I had the power to change what my outcome would be.

I decided to jump onto P90X to change what my future would be.
I spent the two weeks prior to starting P90X riding my mountain bike almost every day. Just by doing that I dropped to 234.6 lbs on day 1.

I jumped into P90X with both feet, I love to cook so I chose the meal plan option of the nutrition guide. Yes the workouts were hard, but I just pressed play every day. I also dropped every liquid from my diet except water. No coffee, no soda, no tea, no artificial sweeteners, just pure H2O.

So after 90 days I dropped 35 lbs. I also got off of blood pressure and diabetes medication with my doctors supervision. I took my Marine Corps dress blues out of storage and found that they fit better than when I got married in them 16 years ago!

BeachBody helped me take my life back!

I now have a future that is healthy and happy.

I hope I can help you on your journey.

Bring It!

Hello All and thanks for the kind words. I know we can be successful.

Yesterday was veterans day and I personally celebrated by fitting into my dress blues and heading to church!

I haven't been able to fit in that uniform for 15 years. Thanks BeachBody for helping me get into shape!

Got out on the mountain bike trails this morning, it was cold!

Had a problem with my rear hub, it wouldn't lock up going forward so it was like I was in neutral. Couldn't climb hills, downhill was all that was available. Still burned 605 calories!

Second round of P90X starts on Monday.

Hi all. I Started Insanity Thursday with the Fit Test. I'm still figuring out the web site and how to get it all set up. Tried several times to start the Fitness Challenge but can't seem to get the projected end date entered. Any who, I look forward to going through this program. I have P-90X but it has been a couple years. Been doing Crossfit in between but then saw Insanity and thought it would be a great winter program. I look forward to working out with you and doing my day 3 workout.

MrCellophane,

Welcome to the board, glad to have you!

You don't have to enter the Fitness Challenge until after you have completed Insanity. You can go and enter at step 2 after completion. You will have to submit before and after photos and answer some essay questions, then you will be good to go.

Please let us know your name so we can address you politely.

What are your goals for this round?

My name is Brian. My goals this round are to lose some weight but mainly to end the set being able to move continuously. Not sure I can keep up with their speed but I want to go through it twice and pick up the speed the second time. I'm working on getting my photo uploaded.

Brian,

I just finished my first round and when I started I had to take a lot of breaks. At the end I could go through the entire workout. You can do it, just got to keep pressing play every day.

Hi everyone, looks like a committed group and I like to jump on in and work out with you.

My name is Mike (married, 2 great kids, dog, live in Ohio, white collar job) & when I was about to turned 50 (3 years ago), I was very close to the 200 lb. mark. I panicked a little because I knew I had to do something very soon because I just kept getting older while my weight just kept going higher and higher. If that was not bad enough, I also have a beautiful daughter who was becoming a teenager. Not only did I need to get myself in shape but I also had to 'buff-up' a little bit to make sure any future boyfriend of hers had the proper respect (OK-Fear) in case they had any ideas to do something I did not want them to like hurting my daughter .

Quick Step-by-Step process of my Beach Body Adventure:

1) I joined a gym...hated it and just was not working for me.
2) Seen early morning P90X commercial and knew I wanted to try it : .
3) I ordered it Jan 2010 (Yes, a New Year's Resolution).
4) I loved it and got some great results from it .
5) Now, thanks to P90X, I am an active runner. I have ran in a couple of marathons, half marathons, 10K, 5K, etc. and am looking into running in a 50K (over 30 miles) in May and a Tough Mudder in Sept. of next year .

BB History: I do a round of P90X from Jan-March (completed 3 full rounds), then run the rest of the year until fall. My problem was that after the running season is over (I am a fair weather runner and when it gets too cold in Ohio I cut back my running to almost nothing (I hate the treadmill). During this time of no running and therefore no exercise, I would also stop everything I have learned about good, clean, healthy eating and just let myself go. I would usually put on 10 to 15 lbs. during this time. I did not really worry about it because I knew that in Jan. I would be doing a round of P90X and I would be back to where I wanted to be weight-wise again.

But every year, it is getting harder and harder to get motivated to try to work hard ('Bring-It') just to keep losing that Holiday Weight that I just put on. I am determined to make this year different and not put on too much Holiday weight this year. I know that I cannot just watch my diet so I started to work out with P90X again. I just finished Phase I, when my Brother-In-Law said he had Insanity and said that I could borrow it. I jumped at the chance because I wanted and needed something different so that I have the same type of desire (motivation) that I had when I did P90X for the first time.
So I will be starting Insanity on Monday and working my way through it with this group until Jan. of next year if that is OK if I can jump on in at this time. As you can see by the number of posts I have made over the last 2 almost 3 years, I love and believe in these message boards. I strongly believe it is these boards that have helped me successfully stay in shape over this period of time.

Since doing Insanity is a new experience for me, I really wanted to be part of a new group where we can share our experiences together. Anyway that I can help you in your journey to get fit and in shape, I will and am here to help by sharing my experiences with you (I am no coach; just a fellow workout fanatic). I look forward to "bringing it" with you in the coming weeks/months ahead (does Insanity use "Bring It"--see I have a lot to learn).

Sorry for this long first post of mine; they will NEVER be this long again.

PS-I also love working out in the WOWY Gym. Hope to see you there as we workout together.

Mike,

Welcome to the team, we are glad to have you on board. Great job so far with the P90X success, that was my first program. I had a great success with P90X, lost 35 lbs. I am starting another round of X tomorrow. I also have Insanity but I'm going to make that a round 3 routine. I know that Insanity is heavily cardio focused and I want to put on some more muscle before I do that one.

I understand the temptation to gain some "hibernation weight" knowing you can strip it off with P90X again later. As you have seen the older you get the harder the drop it off process can become. Plus your body does get used to being a certain size, that's why it is easier to gain your unhealthy weight back than it is to lose it. The good news is that the longer you can stay stable at a new healthy weight the more your body adjusts to this new normal.

Great decision to stay committed to a program through the "off" period from your running. I think you will find that the benefits of this will really show when you return to running in the spring.

Don't worry about a long post, it helps us understand your perspective.

As far as "Bring It" I'm pretty sure tat is a Tony Horton exclusive, I'm sure Shaun T has some memorable lines as well.

Finished Cardio Recovery today. 4th day into Insanity. Sweated up a storm, muscles quivered but was still easier than last several days. Felt good to stretch out more. I see all the talk about eating better and I did see the post earlier about shopping the outside aisles. I have to admit, food is my weakness. I'm not a terrible eater but it is with the quantities I eat. I just like to eat and as I get older and my metabolism slows down I know this is going to be more an issue for me. If only my wife wasn't such a good cook.
