p90x teen nutrition help!
p90x teen nutrition help!

I stress over my nutrition every hour i'm awake and I need this to stop. I've been told so many different numbers by so many people and I'm so confused.

I'm 17yo male in the range of 172-177 (water weight?) and i'm around 17%BF (purely estimation going off of 33" waist jeans and body weight) I want to get down to 13-10% BF

Now, on week 9 of p90x (2nd round) I'm completely lost. Weight won't come off.

I've been told to eat at 2400 like p90x says and I've been told at my stats I should be eating for phase 3 (3000 cals) lately I tried this level 3 eating plan but as I write this I literally feel sick and when I hang around and under 2400 I tend to binge (which I can't tell if this is emotional or body signals)

No matter the calories I tend to constantly wait for my next meal (once again can't tell if hunger or my lack of will power)

I plan out my meals by dividing total cals by 4 (4 meals a day since I'm in school) should I have more frequent, smaller meals?

I tend to consume a lot of whey to meet protein macros - Should I stray from 40/40/20 in favor of healthier whole options?

I also probably get to much sodium due to the convenience of deli meat and frozen foods

sorry for the long read, but any help is appreciated (So frustrated!!)

A couple thoughts for you.

I find that if I am starving before my next meal, I have an oz or two more of protein. I think of this as throwing a log on a dwindling fire... It flairs it up!

I find that getting most of your protein from whey can make you feel more hungry. I try to limit my whey intake to one shake a day, maybe two depending on the day i am having, but I try to get my protein from sources like eggs, chicken, beef...

Frozen processed meals contain so much stuff. I feel that sodium is the least of all the evils it contains. Preservitaves and additives are not so good for us. These can also lead us to feel more hungry too.

4 meals is a good target. If you are hungry, try for some beef jerky and raw veggies as a snack.

Hope that helps

Your problem is whey protein and processed / high sodium foods.

Just remember this. Laundry list of ingredients / high sodium = high hunger. It's processed unnatural junk that your body can get barely any use out of. Keep it to 5 ingredients or less, or exceptions are those rare food items that just have a lot of natural ingredients in them, but you'd be able to recognize each ingredient.

Whey protein is a fast digesting protein source. Ditch it. Get it all from whole foods. Ditch the deli meats as well.

It's pretty much that simple and you'll feel a lot better. At your weight I'd recommend 2400 calories at 40/40/20 and see how it goes from there. Track your weight each week same time (not more frequently) and if it's not going down 1-2 lbs a week, then lower your calorie to about 2000. Simple as that.

Keep up the good work and let me know your progress as it develops.

If I'm ditching the deli meats, what would you recommend for a school lunch? I guess I could have a grilled chicken breast sandwich on ezekiel bread?

Also I'll try to cut back to 1 serving of whey a day, but is it actually more beneficial to get a recovery type protein drink rather than whey? something like EAS recovery (similar to results and recovery)?

Also how big is the difference between ezekiel bread and 100% whole wheat bread with no enriched flour or HFCS?

Ezekiel is sprouted grains, which means the seeds have been tapped to better release nutrients and get rid of antinutrients like phytic acid. It's pretty awesome stuff, but it's not necessary. If you're on a budget, skip it.
