Insanity and The Asylum-Starting November 19th!

Myself and a group of others just finished Insanity. I'll be starting Asylum Volume 1 for the second time on November 19th to get it done before Christmas. Then I'll jump into Volume 2 on January 7th. I know of some others in the group who will be going right back into Insanity after a recovery week.

If you're thinking of doing either program, jump in the group for some great motivation and a great group of people!

PK:

Thanks for starting the thread. I am wanting to start volume 1 ASAP. I have finished one round of Insanity then went through the last month of Insanity again and supplemented those workouts with additional free weight training along with an extra 100 pushups per day etc. Then I have been slack for the last month and need to get back to the workouts. I think I will do 3-4 days of Insanity to get my body back to being used to working out and start Asylum on Monday 11/19.

I had lost 80 lbs doing Insanity from the middle of May to the middle of September and now have gained back about 4 of those lbs. My overall goal is so close that I am confident that Asylum will get me to that goal and beyond. I think Body Beast is next after Asylum.

Got to admit that after previewing the videoa I am scared. Have never jumped rope or done the agility type of exercises however I am athletic. I am looking forward to working out with you ad anyone else who joins the thread.

Mark,
Glad you're on board! Asylum is a great challenge. The jumping rope takes a little getting used to but then you feel pretty awesome when you can keep up with the people on the videos. I've been curious about Body Beast but have absolutely no desire to gain any weight, muscle or otherwise. Asylum is great to get you that extra athletic push and I've used it to train for a few races.

I'm taking the week to work on my pullups and pushups. I have a self-imposed birthday challenge coming up in March (my 30th bday) where I plan to run 30 miles as well as do 30 consecutive pullups and 100 consecutive pushups.

Patrick:

Nice goals for your upcoming 30th birthday. I am 54 and although I am muscular I seriously doubt I can do even one non-aided pull up. Pushups I can do, 50-60 at one shot. Pullups...not so much. Also, I don't have a pull up bar or doorway suited to doing these. I live in a private community and we have a finess center where I do my workouts. We do have a pull up bar in the weight room area but that is separate form the aerobcs/cardio room so maybe I will have to work into that. Consequently I will probably do the lat push ups and other weight work rather than the pull ups at least for now. Maybe by the end of the 30 days I will be able to do pull ups.???

Being 54 I am a little worried that Asylum is too tough for me but I started Insanity at 5'9" and 267 lbs and got through that. I am looking forward to working out harder than I ever have.

I did notice on one video that at one point all of them on the video were just standing around not able to do any work, even Shaun was falling out. Made me laugh and cringe at the same time, knowing what was instore for us.

Gonna hit play and get into it.

You know I'm in Patrick! Even though I will be starting later than you guys, I still want to post with you as I don't think I would have made it through INSANITY without our little group. I really enjoyed our thread and you have been extremely helpful in many ways; advice, encouragement, RECIPES! emoticon

I asked this on the other thread, but maybe you should answer me here so others doing Asylum will have the answers. Can you do the workouts with resistance bands alone, no dumbbells? And do you need a lot of space as in way more space than INSANITY as I have heard?

Mark, I gotta say I am laughing still about your "laugh and cringe" comment! I think you will likely do fine with the alternative exercises. You are not too old for this! You can DO it!!! emoticon

Mark,
As far as pullups go, just like with most things, you have to do pullups to get better at pullups. The modifications in Asylum (for pullups) are pretty awesome but I didn't have a significant change from fit test to fit test last time I did a round. I think I started with 10 and got to 12. The workouts are tough but I personally think they are a lot of fun. That should keep you moving and pushing it. I've done P90X a number of times and P90X2, but Asylum has become my favorite program by far!

Deana,
Thanks for saying all the nice things! I loved our group and hope some of them come on over. As far as space is concerned, I don't think you need much more room than a round of Globe Jumps needs. Sometimes I have to move the ladder to fit a certain move but not that often. You need enough room to do a pushup and enough on each end of the ladder to jump it. Asylum comes with two circular resistence bands that you will need but don't have to use. You could get by with those two bands and a normal resistance band with the handles.

Thanx Mark! emoticon

Patrick, thank you for the info. By chance, did you get to look st the two schedules? I am thinking the hybrid is going to be the slightly more difficult routine. There are more rest days, although it counts the last day as a rest day which doesn't make sense to me. However, half of the days have 2 "sessions" which tome makes it seem to be the more difficult one. I'm leaning toward that being the case, which means I will do straight Asylum first, then the hybrid. I do want your take on it though.

I took the last three days off and ate a lot of chocolate emoticon haha, but tomorrow I am starting my own HHA/INSANITY "hybrid" to take me through to the cruise emoticon

Deana,
That Hybrid looks tough. Asylum is no joke but it's mixing in those Max workouts and we already know those are tough. The double days that would worry me are the ones with Pure Cardio and Strength. That's going to be a 90 minute day with those two workouts and Strength is tough one. I would do Asylum first, like you're already thinking, and then you'll have a much better idea of what the Hybrid would feel like.

T minus three days and I gotta admit I am nervous. Going to try to get a couple of workouts in before taking a rest day Sunday, then hard at it Monday morning at 5:00. Might try to get some experience on the speed rope before then too.

This is going to be good and I am so grateful y'all are going to be there so we can all do this together. There is power in numbers.

Hello Everyone,

Well, I've been having a fairly decent "rest" after Round 1. I took a couple of days off from any Insanity, and pretty much ate what I wanted. On the third day, however, I hit the gym for a couple of days.

This morning I did Core Cardio and Balance...I just couldn't stay away too long emoticon . I'll continue with CC&B for the next 2 days as well. I've decided to start Round 2 of Insanity next week (on the 19th).

Mark: Welcome to the group!!!

Ok, time to hit the shower and get some work done. TGIF baby!

Aloha everyone.... Hey it's the group coming back again. Yay! I'm gonna be doing round 2 of insanity next week too like Richard. I missed you crazies. Hope this round more peeps goin in the fun.I was thinking about asylum but no funds right now to buy the program so it's gonna have to wait till after round 2 of insanity. My rest week is going pretty good so far. I've been running a couple of days and it felt really good to run more than a mile and not get too tired. I've been hitting the weights again n it felt great as well. not as strong as before but a lot more cut n defined. I likely... Good to see you guys again deana and Richard and thank you Patrick for starting this new thread, and welcome Mark to the greatest support group around.
Hey Richard let me know what I need to do for a shirt too please when you find out. Thank you.

For the shirt you can go HERE and fill out the form. Then attach it to an email along with your before and after pics. Then email it to SuccessStories@beachbody.com

Glad you guys got in the thread! I've been taking it very easy this week. Mostly just taking time off of waking up at 4:45 every morning. Been doing some pullups and pushups and some hill training outside. I like taking a few days off sometimes so I get a little itchy to start again. I knew you wouldn't take a full week off Richard! emoticon

OK so I am a little confused. To get the t-shirt using the PDF, you have to email it. You can't save it, so therefore how do you send it by email? I have mine all filled out but cant figure out how to attach something that isn't saved to the comp. So I went back into team beachbody and it looks like you can enter the challenge to get the shirt, but I don't want to do that...yet! I will after all this ASYLUM and hybrid craziness. SO what do I do??? Also, the only measurement I have for my son is his weight. I didn't think we'd be doing this for him or I would have taken some. I don't think he really had any changes in that aspect though. Also, he never took the before pic with the DVDs. Do you think they'd accept an after pic of him holding the DVDs?

Second day of Core Cardio & Balance....and LOVING IT!!! This is my mostest favoritest (how's that for superlatives?) workout, and I wish I can just do this EVERY day! But come on, who am I kidding, right?

Ok, got an email back from BeachBody that my T-shirt is on its way!!! Woohoo!!!!!!!! I'm excited! Can you tell?

Deanna: I also thought I that I couldn't save the pdf, but when I went to the save button, it saved it, and I could update the form, sign it (using the special "Sign" button", and send it off. As far as the "before" pic for your son, I would just send a pic in his bathing suit, or something, and then the "after" pic. Give it a try, and let me know if it works out.
I received a response within hours that the T-shirt was on it's way (after an initial email that said I may have to wait for 4-6 weeks).

Mark: I had a look at your profile, and you have absolutely awesome results thus far man!!!
My goal is also to get to around 170-175 lbs. I have lost 43 lbs in the first round, and I am so looking forward to dipping below 200lbs (it would be the first time in decades for me). Again....welcome!

Patrick: Just want to echo Shane's kudos for a job well done on the last thread!!! I couldn't stay away for long just like you predicted. I think I may be in love with INSANITY!!! emoticon

Shane: Welcome back bro'. So glad you made it over. We have to ROCK THIS ROUND!!! We'll be doing Insanity together, and I intend to jump to Asylum after this Round! Shane, about the T-shirt...check out the link that Patrick provided above. Download the PDF using Acrobat. Save the file to your computer (even though it says you can't initially...don't believe it! emoticon ). Then complete the form, sign it (it has a special "sign" button), and email it with your pics (I basically forward the email I received as confirmation when I ordered insanity).

Stay strong everyone...and enjoy the last few days of freedom!!!

Richard (LET's DO THIS!!!)

Shane, Deanna, Richard, and PK:

Looks like this is going to be an awesome group!! I am pretty stoked for this and almost jumped the gun and started Asylum 1 this morning but will wait until Monday. Have gone from 186 to 192 in the last couple of weeks (down from 267 in May) so will try to get to 190 by Monday morning as a starting point.

Richard, great results losing 43 lbs and from your pics looks like you have gained a lot of muscularity too. Keep up the good work. Got your buddy request and replied too. Thanks.

Do you all want to share some specific goals for Asylum? That will hlp us help you stay on track.

For me because of doing Insanity from May through mid October my fitness and endurance increased quite a bit. My specific measureable goal(s) for Asylum are

Go from 192 lbs currently to 178 lbs (might be tough with Thanksgiving Day in there)

Be able to do the 6 minute "mile run" warm up at the same intensity as the people on the video and without any rest breaks

Do 100 pushups without stopping

Be able to do 10 pull ups (not sure I can do even one right now)

How about yours?

So looking forward to this and getting to know y'all better.

Richard,
Glad they already got back to you! I was thinking that this might be a great way for you to get a good review of Asylum while the three of us (Deana, Mark, and myself) are doing it. I'll try to recap the workouts in detail if you're interested.

Deana,
I remember having quite a bit of problems with it but I think I ended up doing what Richard said. I agree with what he said about the pic of the bathing suit. I'm sure it will work out.

Mark,
Great job on the loss so far. Going from 186 to 192 isn't bad. I'm pretty sure you'll lose the weight with Asylum! I like your list of goals.

I found two free Apps on my iPhone called Push Up Coach and Pull Up Coach. I've been using them this week. It states that in 6 weeks I'll be able to do 20 consecutive pullups and 100 pushups. Those are my goals. I've have a lot planned in the next three months leading up to my Birthday Challenge (BC). For this round I want to get to about 174 with and finally have those two other abs I've heard so much about complete my six pack. Would also love to be able to keep up with the peeps on the video during the Pyramid Pullup/Pushup Routine by the end.

It's been a mini-cheat week for me. Had a huge burger last night and felt horrible today. Not mentally but physically. I'm glad I felt like crap because it's fresh in my mind for Thanksgiving.

Patrick, thanks for the tip on the two apps. I will check them out. I stopped by the fitness center at my club tonight. Yep, can't do a single unaided pull up. emoticon. I consider this a challenge. There is a pull up machine where you kneel on pads and can set the weight of how much help the machine provides. I will use this and keep reducing the weight until I am doing them totally unaided.

Checked the calendar again and realized that the fitness test is not on the first day. So....we get to start tomorrow with the fit test!! In case you can't tell I am so jacked to start I may not be able to sleep tonight. The main reason I am jacked is that I am anticipating what the end results will be after just 30 days, and then further if we do one of the hybrid programs. Woo hoo!

Went to see the bond flick tonight and ate some candy as my last treat before the discipline of the next 30 days of strict nutrition. Movie was good, candy was unnecessary.

Will post fit test results tomorrow if I can lift my arms enough to type. emoticon

God Bless and stay strong everyone.
