Very confused about calorie intake on p90x!
Very confused about calorie intake on p90x!
calories nutrition weight loss 1 round of p90x
11/14/12 7:49 AM
I did p90x for about a year, and got down to my lowest weight of 125 pounds, it was amazing and i felt great. fast forward to now, 3 months of stress and personal problems, i am back to where i started. I want to lose 20 pounds again, so I am restarted p90x. I am following the fat shredder macros, and i am currently eating around 1680-1700 calories a day.

QUESTION:

Will eating 1500 calories a day until i get to the last 10 pounds then bumping it up to 1680-1700 calories (still fat shredder macros) help me achieve my goals of losing those 20 pounds?

It's possible. It's also possible that it stalls your weight loss. It's hard to tell how your body will react.

I'd say go even higher caloire and focus and adding muscle so the next time you take a hiatus from the X, your new acquired muscle will keep your metabolism high.

That is the smart way to go.

i dont plan on taking another hiatus from the program, but i want to be able to get my body that i used to have back, so the 1500 calories is too low?

If the picture is how you currently look, then yes. Way too low.

When you are starving your body of needed calories the body is faced with making a decision of where to pull energy from.

If there is plenty of fat, it will take from fat.

If fat is lower, it will take from muscle. Fat takes less energy to maintain and keeps the body warm which in turn also lowers how much energy is required to maintain the body.

Typicaly the lower your bodyfat the higher the amount of food you'll need to consume to maintain muscle.

There is a calorie calculator on this website under the "get fit" tab. Look for it. It should give you a good baseline to start with.

Solid advice! You have to eat to loose fat. Just make sure you are eating high nutrient dense food. Feed your muscles so they can recover from your workouts! If you aren't eating enough your body will go into starvation mode and you will stop loosing fat and stop gaining muscle.

thanks guys!! i used to the calorie calculator and put my goal to lose some weight (around 20 pounds) is that "some" or "a lot" of weight? i did now know which to select. it gave me a calorie intake of 1800 which i feel is too high? so would 1650 be ok?

What is your age, height and current weight? From there we can get a good hanlde on your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) to work out what you should be looking at for a range.

Generally, this is a good formula for figurig out you BMR.

Women: BMR = 655 + ( 4.35 x weight in pounds ) + ( 4.7 x height in inches ) - ( 4.7 x age in years )

This is the base level your body needs for functioning so you should try to stay above it for the most part. from there you can adjust what you need based on your current maintenance levels and your anticpated burns from workouts.

My BMR is around 1800, and right now that is about what I try to keep my net calories at for the day (I eat 2100 to 2400). I'm losing about 2 pounds a week on average. I'm male, 39 years old, and weigh 190 pounds at 5'9" tall.
