shotput - I hear what you're saying and agree but sometimes it's hard to make myself believe it. But I really don't like the phrase "at our age" although I use it myself - except when I use it in the context of achieving something that I probably shouldn't have "at my age". But you are right. I am proud that I haven't gained weight and I know I have muscular strength. I just know that with the proper eating discipline I could get closer to where I think I should be. On one of my other threads, someone new chimed in and said he/she was 56 and then mentioned "we seniors". I thought - I'm not a senior! Oh, wait, I guess I am.

As for yoga - I really do like it and feel good when I get done. P90X yoga I usually only do through the moving asanas and then skip through to some of the stretches. X2 yoga is a little shorter and the sequences move a little faster. You don't hold some of the poses as long. And Tony's One on One Fountain of Youth one is even better at only about 45 minutes. But I seldom do yoga because like Linda, I like faster things. I know it is very beneficial just like stretching, but I always feel like I should be doing something more strenuous.

Linda - hope your craft fairs are going well. Did you get any good bargains at the sale?

Week 1, Day 7 - Build: Chest and Tris. Second time for this one. I did up the weights on one exercise but stayed the same on the rest. My tris were really burning. My tricep push-ups are still bad. I have to do them on my knees and that frustrates me.

Yesterday was a rest day but I did get out in the yard and pull up the dead stuff and cut back a lot of stuff. I did manage to tweak my hamstring a little doing something. I have Legs again tomorrow so I hope it doesn't interfere with that. Ad crazy as it may sound, I'm looking forward to that torture again. I just hope I'm not quite as sore this time.

Have a great day. Enjoy the nice weather if you are lucky enough to be having it.

Hi~!

Today's craft/indoor farmers mkt was a bust. I did manage to spend more $ then I made!~
Why do I always relearn what I already learned. FIRST TIME FAIRS are never great for me.
Oh well, I'm home and settled in, and yes SHOTPUT my firing went very well. I Am happy~

Jayne: I had someone say to me, "wow, you look really great for your age"...Really?
why can't it just be: "wow, you look really great" although maybe it's a double compliment because most people our age don't look like us. I'll take it that way. I just don't like the "qualifier" of for your age in there. WOW You are one DAY 7 of week ONE! 25% done~ (it's a month right?)

The sale was 25% off. My hub got some carhart jeans, a carhart sweatshirt, and some workboots and I got a new pair of sneaks...and I mean "new" a brand I had never heard of. They are still in my car so I'll let you know what they are when I get them. Very light weight. Supposedly good for high impact. We shall see. I have paid as high as 130 for good sneakers, these were $60 BEFORE the 25% off. and I bought Darn Tuff Socks for my nieces and nephew (made in vermont)

Tomorrow Max Interval Plyo.....here I come!

Hi Everyone -

Insanity CC&B & Asylum Relief done.

I compromised on the cardio yesterday and opted for CC&B; enough to get the heart moving without too much protest from the ankle. It was supposed to be a P90X night but my daughter decided to spend the evening celebrating Dewali with friends so my husband and I had “empty nest” status for 14 hours. No offense to Tony, but my husband seemed the better option. emoticon I’m heading out to the orthopedist in a couple of hours; keep your fingers crossed.

I completely understand both sides because that's exactly where I am. I'm proud of my accomplishments but know I could look better. Some days I desperately want to be shredded down to my six-pack (which I know is there), then other days, I think ... not too bad for 54 and therein lies my problem. As long as I have the "not too bad" days, I'll never achieve the amazing day. When I started Insanity, I couldn't look in the mirror and say "not too bad", therefore my nutrition focus was better!

I hope your hamstring is feeling well enough for Legs today. I understand your kind of crazy ... it's why we are still muscular "at our age". emoticon

I'd always take ”for your age” as a double compliment because it is. We can't change the fact that we age, but we can change how we age. Every time someone notices the discrepancy between my age and my body, I consider it evidence of my success!

Sorry to hear the craft fair was a bust, but it sounds like you had a good time at the morning sale. MIP should be a good test for the new shoes.

Shotput: What is Dewali? Hope all goes well with your ankle. At least you are smart enough to not overdo it when you know you have an injury. Some of us aren't that smart and pay the price.

Linda - so what are your shoes? I love my Reebok Flex training shoes. They are the most comfortable shoes I have every worked out in and seem to have good support. I wanted the hot pink ones but they were $99 and they had a special on the silver ones for $65 so I got the silver ones. I mean really, I work out in my home and no one sees my shoes but me. And I did get some light gray socks because the white ones or black ones look bad with them. emoticon Hey, you have to have some fashion!

Week 2, Day 1 - Build: Legs. Yikes. What a workout. I did manage to raise my weights on a couple but lowered them on a couple that I was too heavy on last time. But it was like a cardio workout doing step ups to reverse lunges. That was one that I lowered my weights on and I still wasn't sure if I was going to finish. So I had some time left and did about 20 minutes of TF with legs that wouldn't jump off of the ground. A little bit more calorie burn.

A slow day at work so far. Waiting for my boss to finish some slides so I can finish my work. And the phone isn't ringing because most people aren't working today. And I like that.

Have a great day.

Good Morning!
My daughter is doing much better. She spent the entire weekend at home either in bed or on the couch which really helped her. I spent most of Friday on the couch with her. We watched some good sappy love stories together and I cherished every moment. On Saturday we were having a beautiful day so I ended up going for a nice run. Sunday I did Legs & Back which was a pretty good workout. I ate way too much on Saturday nite when we took my Grandmother out for dinner, so I was glad to get a good workout in on Sunday morning. I'm actually really enjoying this round of P90x. The first time I did it I was really scared because I thought it would be too hard and now I know I can do it! My weight actually stayed the same over the weekend which I consider success.

Linda: I hope you enjoyed the widow's sale. Did you get everything you wanted?

Shotput: I hope you are feeling pretty good after doing PC. Hopefully the doctor will give you good news. Good luck.

Jayne: Wasn't that 70 degree weather wonderful. Did you get all your outside work done? I saw a lot of people putting up their Christmas lights already.

Have a great day!

Hi~

Max Interval Plyo..........DONE

One More Workout Left for this Round of Insanity~

Shotput: I honestly don't know how many rounds of insanity,,,I Think 3 straight, and then the hybrids of asylum/insanity, and p90x/insanity... What'd the doctor say? I hope it's encouraging news....my fingers and toes are crossed ;)

My shoes are RYKA Exertion, I just noticed they are endorsed by Kelley Rippa, lol,,,she is FIT, Tag: long lasting cushioning, air flow for a cool foot, wicks away moisture, odor and fungus inhibiting. I wore them for max plyo,,,They are extremely light, I'm not 100% sure about them for insanity. I could feel the bottom of my foot, I know it sounds weird, but w/my other sneakers (asics) I never had a sense of the bottom of my foot, with these, i could even feel my toes. Nothing hurt, I just wonder if it is because they don't have as much material. Will see how I feel tomorrow. They do not have a lot of support around the ankle. Overall, I do like them and time will tell so stay tuned... emoticon

Caryn: Glad your daughter is feeling better and that sounds so nice to have spend the wkend together on the couch watching movies! I like that~

Jayne, LOL re the socks,,,I hear ya!! if you look good, you feel good!~..My sneaks are grey with a HOT PINK bottom!

You know the fair was a bust but I have gotten 7 new likes on my facebook page! and my name in the paper...."exceptional display of pottery by Lori Bracken of BarreTown...yup, they got my name wrong! uugh. LOL

ok gotta run
have a great nite everyone

Caryn - I'm so glad your daughter is better. Actually, it sounds like heaven sitting on the couch watching sappy movies. And Hallmark and Lifetime are already showing the sappy Christmas movies that just suck me in. I could sit for hours and watch those. Sounds like you did get some good workouts in. And not gaining weight over the weekend is a wonderful thing.

Linda - I have tried on the Ryka shoes before but I cannot stand Kelly Ripka and could never get myself to buy her shoes.

Good Morning Everyone –

After my orthopedist visit yesterday, I was in serious need of a stiff drink and went in search of my preferred poison … a very cold, 20 oz. Cherry Coke. It helped some. emoticon

The results were “good new/bad news”. First, my ankle bones/joints looked wonderful with no signs of arthritis so all my years of running haven’t cause permanent damage ... this is good. The Achilles tendon is still firmly attached at the heel and there were no huge bulges ... this is also good. Now the bad news, the orthopedist found the hot spot causing the problem (believe me, there was no doubt when he pressed down on it emoticon). He suspects there are small tears in the tendon about two inches above the attachment which I keep re-tearing. And the truly bad news ... he wants my foot immobilized for FOUR weeks. He put me in a walking boot to minimize ankle flexion until the tendon repairs itself. I’m not thrilled but I know I have to do it since it hasn’t exactly healed on its own the past five weeks. Needless to say, I spent most of yesterday afternoon in a funk, but I’ve come around today. I just have to view this as a 4-week Challenge Round. The orthopedist cleared me to do all my upper body weights, ab work, and any lower body moves that don’t involve impact or ankle flexion. Since I’m an expert modifier, I spent last night reviewing the various Insanity routines and identified which moves I could do straight out/low impact and which I could modify. I know I won’t be able to crush the cardio aspect, but I should be able to maintain muscle strength and flexibility... which I will need because after only one day walking in the boot, my back and hamstring are protesting loudly this morning. Good thing I have a personal masseur on hand.emoticon

Week 2, Day 1 - Build: Legs. Yikes. What a workout. ... So I had some time left and did about 20 minutes of TF with legs that wouldn't jump off of the ground. A little bit more calorie burn.

Seriously hardcore - TF after the Beast. Impressive!

Dewali is a Hindu celebration that roughly translates to "Festival of Lights". It spans 5-days and has many components but you can think of it as a combination Thanksgiving (celebrating the end of the harvest season) and Solstice (lighting of lamps to drive away evil.) It doesn't occur on a set day, but is based on lunar days in the Hindu calendar and falls late October/early November. During high school and college many of my daughter's friends where Indian and she was exposed to hinduism. She eventually began practicing it. Since she has a penchant for languages, she even studied Sanskrit in college so she could read the Hindu religious texts. It's amusing to see some of the pictures from the Dewali services because almost everyone is Indian and then there's my pale, white daughter leading the religous readings because she's on of the few who can read Sanskrit.

I had RYKA's many years ago in my aerobics days. I liked them.

That's great that the fair offered exposure even if it didn't generate great sales. As long as the paper spelled your last name right, people will find you.

Good Morning!
Last night was Kenpo which is always a fun workout and it goes pretty fast. I was especially pleased that I was down a half pound this morning. I still have 3 to lose before Thanksgiving. It's time for me to be more focused on my eating.

Shotput: Sorry to hear you have to immobilize the foot. Fortunately it will heal and you will be back to normal soon. We all know you will find a way to get the maximum out of your workouts. The four weeks will go by very quickly, especially at this time of year with all your decorating. By the way, how is the decorating going?

Linda: You are amazing with how many rounds of Insanity you have accomplished. Congrats. I love when I just finish a program and I start looking forward to the next one.

Jayne: How's the Beast going?

Have a good one!

Shotput - sorry about your foot but it could be much worse. We have a friend who is a race walker and had the same thing happen and had to wear the boot. Hope it heals fast. But I'm sure you will find a lot you can do to keep in shape.

Linda - congrats on another round of Insanity. La Machina! I'm anxious to hear how you feel about TF and A2.

Caryn - BB is going well. Today was Back/Bis. Went a little heavier on one of the back routines but stayed the same on the rest. My bis are still sore. At least my legs aren't as sore as they were last week.

Long day of work today so I think I will be heading to bed soon.

Hi Everyone –

Insanity modified moves, GIG mat work & Asylum Relief done last night.

Morning ARX today.

You can basically assume that any workout I do for the next month has been significantly modified. My goal is to do the moves I can safely do and then replace the “banned” exercises with others which target the same muscle groups. Last night I experimented with different equipment options and had a wonderful discovery. My free-standing pull-up bar has a padded roll bar close to the floor which I believe was designed for hooking ones feet under to aid in doing sit-ups. (not something any of us Insanity grads require emoticon). Anyway, if I drape my feet over the bar so my shins are resting just above the ankle, I can do most of the Insanity plank work in a suspended position. I can only do it at about half speed since I can’t drive out of the floor, but it’s a killer core and shoulder workout. I can do almost any pushup variation from that position as well. I also have a TRX suspension trainer that allows me to hold an elevated plank and work both legs simultaneously like for in-out abs. The disadvantage with the TRX is it requires more work to get in and out of the stirrups, so I would have to pause the DVD. All in all, it wasn’t a bad first attempt to work around the restrictions.

Has anyone else been shocked to realize that Thansgiving is next week! I lost a week somewhere. My son is arriving home THIS Friday. I’ve been using his room as a staging area for my Christmas decorating. I best get moving or he’s going to need a wilderness guide to find his bed amidst the forest of Nordic trees.

Congrats on yet another Insanity round! It will be fun to experiment for a while without a set schedule. I can’t wait for you to try some of the Asylum 2 workouts. emoticon

Thanks for the support. I suspect I will have “whiny” days but I’ll try to minimize them. When that occurs, you can just tell me to “snap out of it”. Jayne’s right, it could be much worse.

Congrats on the scale movement. Is your husband still doing the round with you?

As far as the decorating, it’s going a little more slowly so I enlisted my daughter to haul things from the basement yesterday. I’m doing the huge Artic Land installation upstairs and that easily requires 50 basement trips to retrieve all the motionettes, trees, garlands and control modules. I don’t feel balanced enough wearing the boot and climbing the stairs carrying huge boxes.

Goodmorning!

Today I did the Agility of A2,,,Yes DID it, as opposed to sitting on the coach sipping coffee and watching it...LOL, Ok, i did that before I did it.

I love it and almost got to obsessed with it. I kept doing the moves over and over and over, and rewind and rewind and rewind, until I finally accepted the fact that I wasn't going to be a pro right out of the gate. The most difficult ones for me were the Xtrainer, and Crossword puzzle. I don't remember them well enuf to give a great description but basically you are going in and out of the box and different directions including up and down, front and back,,,and my brain well, my brain. My favorite was ON Your Mark,,,,you get in a "on your mark position" squat like with one leg back like you are at the beginning of a race, then you POP up straight, down again, up again, then you add some footwork in the first three boxes and back to the down position, Really my favorite and I could so feel it in my core. Anyway, I liked it, and I can feel the temptation to start....

Jayne, I'm glad your legs are not as sore as last week!!

Caryn: 1/2 pound down! woohooo!! I love Kenpo too!

Have a great day,,,gotta go make da pottery
Smiles
Linda

Shotput: way to go! wow, I don't know if I would have that much patience to figure out all those different ways to modify the moves. Bravo for you!~! for figuring out how to drap your feet over that bar to allow you to do the planks, etc,,,

Good Morning!
Last night was a completely wasted night. My whole family had our 6 month dental appointments which ended up taking 2 hours. I didn't get home until 8:30 and then I notice that something leaked in my frig and it took me an hour to get it all cleaned out. By that time I was too aggravated to do a workout. Tonight we have a meeting at the school which will take all night, so I won't get to workout tonight, either. I don't like not working out for 2 days, but I'll just have to make up for it tomorrow. I hate when life gets in the way of my workouts....

Shotput: I just love how you always manage to figure out a way to get in a good workout no matter what obstacle is in your way. You are amazing. I hope we will get pictures of the holiday displays this year.

Linda: I knew you wouldn't take too much time off after completing Insanity again. A2 sounds pretty challenging and I know you will conquer it like everything else.

Jayne: How long are the Beast workouts? Are they as long as the P90x ones? How would you compare the two?

Have a great day!

Linda - how weird is that? How many times have I done X and not seen Senor? Now I want to go back and look for him. Yes, Caryn, let us know if you see him.

A2 sounds difficult but fun, maybe. Have you done the Fit Test yet? I hope I can make myself go all the way through BB before I start A2.

Caryn - so far the BB workouts are shorter. Most are 40-50 minutes long. Cardio is 30 minutes and abs are 12. I haven't looked at the next 2 phases but I don't think those are much longer. Believe me, if you give it your all, that is all the time you will want to be doing it. As for comparing it to X, it's the same but different. In what I have done so far, you don't mix body parts like in X. You do all of the back work, then switch to biceps. There is one exception. At the end of each one he usually does one ab workout and at the end of back/bis he does do a cobra move that works the back some but it is more a lower back/core exercise. The program is intense but he is always telling you to drop your weights if you can't finish and just finish using body weight. But, he is a little annoying. Fortunately, I can tune him out for the most part. I did yell at him today during abs when he said "do you know what's next?" I just yelled "NO" because I have only done it once and didn't remember. Sometimes it seems like he really dawdles between exercises and other times, it's grab your weight and go. I don't think it would be a big deal to use the adjustable weights, you might be a couple reps behind in the drop sets, but then they have a break so you could catch up. All in all, I think it's a really good workout. Being a woman though, I really don't want to add pounds. But if I can see fat melting away and the muscles emerging, it won't bother me as much.

Shotput - you are amazing. I'm not sure I would have been able to figure out so many ways to manage to do Insanity with an injury such as yours. Great work. Yes, I am amazed that Thanksgiving is only a week away. I realized today that I need to call my sister and find out what she wants me to bring for dinner so I can plan what I need to get at the grocery store. We always go to a soup dinner with our church family the night before Thanksgiving so I need to get all of that too. I think it's going to be an expensive trip to the store.

Today I did Beast Cardio and Beast Abs. I don't think I was quite as into it today as I was last week, but it is challenging. Alot of squats though. Then I tacked on about 15 minutes of TF.

OK. I think I've wasted enough work time. Have a great evening. And, Caryn, don't obsess about missing a couple days. Life does happen and we have to roll with it. You won't lose everything you've gained in a couple days. I have a 6:00 a.m. dentist appt in 3 weeks and no I am not getting up at 2:00 a.m. to get my workout in first. I'm already trying to figure out how I'm going to work it. I might be able to get the workout in when I get home.

Have a great evening all.

Morning ARX so far today.

I pushed play on PCC yesterday and never paused the DVD. I followed the timing and intervals but used moves that I could do. In the warm-up, instead of the Heisman, I did those C-sit Oblique Knee-up crunches from Insane Abs and then when he switched to 1-2-3 Heisman I continued with Bike Crunches from ARX2. I chose PCC because the second interval set is ¾ plank work – which I could do suspended. I had to take breaks because suspended plank seemed more difficult/awkward/different and I couldn’t jump up on the Level II drills so I was in plank the entire time. For basketball drills, I did stationery squats while hammer curling 12 pounders into overhead presses. For mountain climbers, I did ARX mason twists while doing alternating shoulder presses with 8 pounders. Anyway, you get the idea; I tried to target similar muscle groups and increase the cardio intensity by adding weights where possible. It wasn’t the intense cardio of a normal Insanity workout but I was sweating and using all my muscles above the knee; better than sitting on the couch. I could do all of P90X C&B except the Decline & Dive Bombers but my numbers were a little lower on all the pushups. They feel more difficult suspended; I’m not sure if I’m really supporting more weight or the slight change in angle is working the muscles differently. (I’m sure one of my resident nerds could provide me with the physics equation and calculate the difference for me if I cared enough to asked.) Either way my arms are feeling it this morning.

Today I did the Agility of A2,,,Yes DID it, as opposed to sitting on the coach sipping coffee and watching it...LOL, Ok, i did that before I did it.

I love it and almost got to obsessed with it. I kept doing the moves over and over and over, and rewind and rewind and rewind, until I finally accepted the fact that I wasn't going to be a pro right out of the gate. ... Anyway, I liked it, and I can feel the temptation to start....

I have only done the "sitting on the couch sipping tea" version, and it looked intriguing. I was tempted as well, but, alas, it's going to be a few months before I'm ready for the agility ladder again. The concentration required to master the footwork in A2 seemed more intense than Volume 1. You don't have to start A2 to enjoy the workouts. There's nothing wrong with dabbling in them for a while.

I don't like not working out for 2 days, but I'll just have to make up for it tomorrow. I hate when life gets in the way of my workouts....

I hope we will get pictures of the holiday displays this year.

Unfortunately life and parenthood do get in the way of workouts occasionally but, since you've made working out your lifestyle, a few missed days don't matter.

I wasn't going to subject everyone to another round of holiday photos, however, it you want to see them again, I'll be happy to post some when December rolls around and my house doesn't look like a contruction zone. It could be an interesting holiday season because my once state-of-the-art X10 automation technology, is becoming less reliable every year. (There's newer, more robust technology available but I have a lot invested in the old.) X10 uses household wiring to send signals and, unfortunately, much of the new computer technology, TVS & receivers, appliances etc, create noise interference on the wiring. What's that mean? Sometimes the "noise" can be interpreted as an X10 signal so items will randomly go on by themselves (think singing snowmen at 3:00 a.m.). Other times, the noise interfers with my signal so I can't turn things off. (i.e. snowmen keep singing at 3:00 a.m.) Should be entertaining.emoticon

All in all, I think it's a really good workout. Being a woman though, I really don't want to add pounds. But if I can see fat melting away and the muscles emerging, it won't bother me as much.

Today I did Beast Cardio and Beast Abs. I don't think I was quite as into it today as I was last week, but it is challenging. Alot of squats though. Then I tacked on about 15 minutes of TF.

Muscle pounds are never a bad thing for women over 50 ... any fat melting is a bonus!

Do you have planned hybrid with TF, or are you just adding those workouts occasionally?

Good Morning!
Yesterday was a stressful day. My youngest daughter's school had multiple bomb threats in the morning and they ended up evacuating the school and sending all the kids home. They had a kids on lock down and wouldn't let the parents anywhere near the school. It was a very tense couple of hours before my daughter let me know she was safely home. We still haven't heard any news on whether or not they know where the calls came from. Then last night we had a 2 hour seminar on college financing. By the time we got home, I was completely frazzled. I'm looking forward to a good workout tonight to get rid of some of this stress.

Jayne: Thanks for the info and comparison of BB and P90x. I'm always looking for new workous and BB seems like a good choice.

Linda: I am now on the lookout for Senor M!

Shotput: Since we are going away for Christmas this year, I think I'm only going to put up the tree and a few small decorations. I'm actually looking forward to having a bit of a break this year.

Have a stress-free day!
Caryn

Below is a picture I took this morning of my new breakfast buddies. Now when I put out the feed in the morning they come running.
