When to workout?
When to workout?
11/15/12 7:05 AM
Hey,
I work from 7-6 Mon-Fri so I normally work out when I get home at 6pm when I get home from work. Is this a bad time to workout, because I'm not done till like 715pm and then I take recovery drink and possible protein shake, but then I still haven't eaten dinner. I'm wondering if I should switch to the morning, but it's just so early. It just seems like a lot of food to be eating very late because I go to bed at about 10pm. Thanks!
Dustin

Yea, if you have to be in bed by 10pm then I would start working out in the morning. You want to try and wait 3 hours after eating before going to bed so as not to store undigested carbs as fat.

I would like to work out in the morning however I would have to wake up at 530 to get my workout done! This is just very early, and I feel like I would need to take some form of speed to operate at this hour. I've taken ripped fuel before and I was wondering if this supplement would work with this program?

This is actually a myth, as nothing automatically gets stored as fat while you're sleeping.

The only reason not to eat before bed is that digestion can interfere with circadian rhythym (sleep cycles) and cause lower quality sleep.

Bandit - I just wanted to let you know you give excellent, simple, straightforward advice on these boards all the time and I'll pass along my thanks for that. You've obviously been around here for a while, have no affiliation with BB, are not a coach, have no ulterior motive and just put it out there so that anyone can understand. Your help is appreciated.

Just to add to this thread the best time to workout is when you're going to do it. If you tried to change your plan for early in the morning, but can't stand to get up that early, chances are you'll start missing days and blowing it off. Stick to the evenings if that;s what works.

Hey Dustin,

If you are working out that late, I don't think you need to have a protein shake and then dinner....instead make your dinner your recovery food...protein/carb combo with veggies. If you still want the recovery drink....add it to your water during your workout. Use your protein shake for another meal.snack during the day.

As far as workout time, just find the time that best suite you. The time that you know you're going to do it. If getting up at 5am doesn't work for you, then don't do it. We all have times in the day that work better for us. Find the best time that works for you!

Sounds like evening really fits best into your lifestyle and schedule so you should stick with that. I agree with Jeff's comments about not needing the R&R and protein shake but, rather, focusing your efforts on creating a really well-rounded healthy dinner.
