Hi Damon!

Your goals are attainable (to lose 30-ish lbs before March), just need to stick with it and have patience every step of the way!

I lost 40+ pounds almost 3 years ago (at about 37/38 years old)...going from about 195 to 155 now. The toughest part was showing up every day for the first month, and staying on a diet plan. But, after one week, you'll be telling yourself that you did one week, so you can do another. And another. And so on. Eventually, it just becomes who you are.

I found for me, the best diet plan was to track everything I ate, and really learn and understand the calories I consume. It involved a lot of "homework" and measuring, but it's something I still do to this day to maintain the exact calories I need (along with just better food choices) - the 90/10 plan that Tony Horton promotes is a good one to use as reference. I also used the DASH diet plan, Tony's book "Bring it!", online sources, and of course the P90X book for help and ideas.

I actually started my journey about 2 years before getting on P90X, so was already in shape...and still found P90X tough. But, the videos are definitely motivational on their own, and provide many alternatives to get into the exercises...just "keep pushing play" ;-) There are still days now that I'll do a P90X or P90X Plus workout, and need to pause to catch my breath. One lesson I've learned, is somedays are better than others - so, I don't expect to always do better than the last workout. Just showing up and putting in your best effort for that day is the only thing you can do! These are tough, but by the time you get through the first phase, you'll be ready to tackle the rest. And at the end, it will transform you, and your lifestyle to the point you will never go back. Just keep that goal in focus!

If you find P90X too much, you can try one of the other series as well. I bought 10-minute trainer for my wife, since she found the P90X daily routines too long, and she likes those. I've tried them myself, and they're definitely a good way to get going and find a routine. The exercises can still be a challenge, and the time commitment is less than half the time.

Good luck on getting started Nov 26th!

DIET IS KEY. half your goal is already planned out with the p90x program. Scope out your diet plan and plan it for a month but buy food you can cook for a week.

try myfitnesspal to help calculate intake

I feel your pain, I struggled for a long time. Between my attention span and injuries I am in the same boat with you, just could never get that first round done. Over the summer I lost 20 lbs between P90x and Insanity, so if I can do it you can too. The biggest key is just like everyone else said, DIET. It's hard to start because you are making huge changes to your diet and you will still have cravings. Once you get through the first two weeks you will notice those cravings will be significantly diminished. Get yourself into a routine. The first couple weeks are key as you will be sore for sure, but do whatever it takes to push through your workouts. Don't be afraid to ask questions, everyone on the message boards are more than willing to help you succeed. Don't get frustrated. You might have weeks where you don't feel like there was any change, stick with it trust me if you are following the diet and pushing play change is happening. Make this a lifestyle, not just 90 days. Get yourself into the mindset that this is a marathon not a sprint. People get frustrated about losing a pound in a week and think the program isn't working. Well think about it if you lose a pound a week for a year that's 52 pounds. Feel free to buddy me if you have more questions.

I just started P90x on 11/20 so we will be going through it together.

Good luck.

Good for you! I think a lot of people underestimate how difficult yoga can be (I know I did). I especially still find Warrior 3 poses very tough. And when I started, ALL the poses were tough! Like you said, stick with it and do your best.

If you need the break, go into child's pose for a bit, and then jump back into it...I still do this.

A yoga block can really help as well.
