shaun t hip hop abs measurements 6 pack abs workout program thanksgiving challenge group 30-day challenge
11/20/12 10:16 AM
Hey Everybody!

I am starting the Hip Hop Abs 30-day workout program! My 10-year old son is actually doing this with me as well. =) We took our before pics and measurements and we're ready to dance our way through the next month (and of course, Thanksgiving) and see if we can get those nice Shaun-T abs. Ok, ok - we know that's a little unrealistic, but at least shave off an inch or two.

If you wanna join me (even if you're in the middle of doing this program already), just take your before pics and measurements and let's hold each other accountable by posting here daily.

Let me know if you're willing to commit to 30 days! =)

workout hip hop abs stomach busy schedule fat burning fat burning cardio

Day 1: Fat Burning Cardio

This routine was a lot of fun. The moves are not difficult, although I grew up figure skating and dancing, so I know I pick things up pretty quickly. My 10-year old only got a little confused during one part of the routine, so all-in-all, I would say that this is an ABSolutely (get it? haha) great workout for a beginner.

I think the key to this routine is to work on really keeping your abs engaged through the entire program, which is going to be key to really getting the results in your tummy area that you're looking for. Don't worry so much about the speed of the moves. It would be better to do the moves slower with good ab control and work your way up to the speed then just try to keep up.

If you have trouble keeping your abs engaged, work on it while you are not working out. Try to hold it for a minute, then two minutes, then three minutes and so on and so forth. If you can't keep your stomach tight while you're either sitting or walking around, you're going to struggle keeping it engaged through this entire program. You'll still get a workout, but you won't get as good as results.

This is a pretty short workout - I think it was only like 28 minutes or so. =) Great for a busy schedule.

workout cardio hip hop abs stomach half hour

Day 2: Fat Burning Cardio (Again)

Definitely could concentrate more on keeping my abs engaged today since the steps were more familiar. I'm sure it will get even easier to focus solely on keeping my tummy nice and tight during the whole thing the less I have to think about which steps come next. =)

Again, this workout is less than a half hour and I feel like I'm cheating because it's so short. I can feel my stomach working and I have worked up a bit of a sweat, but I'm still feeling like this is on the easy side. Of course, I do normally workout a lot. I would not consider myself a beginner, so if you're a beginner, this would probably be a really great place to start!

I am on day 4 and loving it! I am a beginner and have
Never done a program like this. Never been a dancer so
It has been a bit harder for me to get all of the moves down.
I have been keeping my abs engaged and using weighted
Gloves throughout all of the workouts so I'm definitely feeling
It!

@cosmocomet - My 10 year old isn't a dancer either, but he's getting the moves down pretty good. As with any "routine" type of program, it takes a little getting used to, but you'll become familiar with the steps pretty quickly and then be able to concentrate more on really working your abs through each and every move. =) But, if you're already able to do that WAY TO GO!!!! I have to get myself a pair of weighted gloves, so you're ahead of me there. lol

DAYS 3, 4, 5, 6, & 7: Okay, okay - it was Thanksgiving weekend! lol I know it's no excuse, but the running around and catching up with people I haven't seen in forever did keep me from getting to the computer to write on here. The important thing though is that when you fall behind on something you do, you jump back on board as quickly as possible and keep moving forward.

Although I could feel my abs working through these workouts, I felt like they were still on the easy side for me. So, I went to one of my friends strikekick classes at a local gym, and all I can say is "HOLY MOLY!!!" Every time I went to kick, I could feel my lower abs - I had no idea how much they were working until I tried to do another type of activity! lol

I am still loving all of this workout program. We also tried one of the choreographed dances last night. Yeah - that didn't work out all so well. Kinda looked like crazy people bopping around in our living room, but we'll get it eventually. Maybe even make a YouTube video with it. haha (NOT!)

Good news though!!! After the first 6 days (during the rest day), my son said, "Mom, I feel skinnier, let's take my measurements." I went through the typical, "It's only been a week and you shouldn't expect to see any huge changes," but we measured him anyway. HE LOST 2 INCHES IN HIS STOMACH AND ANOTHER TWO IN HIS HIPS!!!! Absolutely amazing! lol I am still at a 28 inch waist, but did lose an inch in my "baby bump." haha

Alright, back into the swing of things. How is everybody else doing?

So this past week, the program doubled up a couple days, having us do Ab Sculpt right after the Fat Burning Cardio. My son is tired after the workouts, but this is more up to par with what I'm used to. =)

I am still having a lot of fun with this workout and the more I do it, the more I can concentrate on working every single move since I don't have to think about the steps any more. I'm thinking of adding the weighted gloves, which I haven't bought yet to help give my arms a bit more of a workout.

My downfall has been drinking enough water, which is something I always seem to struggle with since I can't always run to the bathroom in the middle of court (I am not only a Beachbody Coach, I am an attorney lol). But I'm getting better. It's as long as you keep working on something and never give up - that's progress. =)

I just started the program. Saturday I did fat burning cardio and cardio groove. I also took the cardio groove challenge. Sunday I just did the fat burning cardio. Those were just practice days to learn the moves. I started the actual month challenge today with fat burning cardio, cardio groove and cardio groove challenge.

I should start by giving a little background about myself. Last April I weighed 228 lbs.. I walk w/weights twice a day. I started off with sweatin' to the oldies 1 2 3 4 5 the 70's and the 80's. I then moved on to insanity. I hurt my knee in week 2 and I pushed myself to keep going through week 4. I stopped insanity and did the slim in 6 program. I tried zumba exhilarate for 2 weeks but didn't care for it. Now here I am starting hip hop abs and weighing 163 lbs.. I LOVE IT! I've missed Shaun T. so much. I know working out shouldn't seem like this much fun but hopefully I can get smaller and still really enjoy myself.

I hope we can all enjoy this together,
Linda

@FitnessEsq
Today was my first day where I had to complete both the Cardio & the Ab Sculpt CD. I could not do them back to back, I had to take a 30 min break where I ate a light lunch to recharge for the Ab Sculpt workout. I to have seen a difference in my measurements. I lost 1 inch off my chest 2 off my hips and 1 from my waist. All I can say is WooHoo!!!I think the gloves really do make a difference I wear them throughout both the workouts and I can feel my shoulders and my arms. Not painful but a healthy sore awareness.

@Stacey - Take it one step at a time. Focus on getting through the first three weeks of this program. You can always run through it a second round or we can talk about what might be the next good program for you to graduate to. =)

@Linda - Congrats on the weight loss and great work that you've already put into your health so far! Make sure you are following the schedule that the program lays out for you to follow. That way you don't do too much and injure yourself. I love working out with Shaun-T. It helps he shows off the abs just as I'm getting tired. haha ;)

@Cosmocomet: You made a good decision to take a break where you needed it. The ab sculpt routine is definitely more challenging than the cardio routine. Just like at the beginning, the most important thing is getting the moves down so that you can control your abs and keep them engaged throughout the entire routine. My son struggles with the fast knee ups, so it's easier if you just try to keep the movements smaller until you get used to the speed of the movements - then you can make it bigger as you get better at it.

And CONGRATS on your measurements!!!! That is so great!! I'm still slacking in the gloves department. I need to get a pair because I think that would definitely give me a good arm toning. Also, I'm glad you know the difference between good soreness and pain. When your muscles are sore, that's a good thing because it means your body is actually changing!!!

Nice job everybody!

I am REALLY feeling my hip flexors working and can see the muscle starting to appear down there. The knees still aren't easy, but they're getting better.

What's your favorite move? Mine is the one where it's like you put your hands in your back then front pockets and then squeeze, side, side. I really like that one. lol

Day two for me down! emoticon I did fat burning cardio, cardio groove and cardio groove challenge. I can't get over how much fun I have doing this!! I've never worked out and had fun like this before. Tomorrow I start ab sculpt. We'll see how that goes. I have to invest in some weighted gloves. I think that would help give my arms more tone.

I hope you all had a great day today,
Linda

@Linda - This really is such a fun workout, especially once you get the moves down and can add a little flare to it. =) Take your time with ab sculpt - there's a lot of quick movements. Again, make sure you focus on your form rather than just keeping up. You want your abs engaged at all times. The moves will come and then you'll be able to go faster. You can also make the knee lifts a little smaller so you can move quicker.
