Hi everyone,

I'll be starting my first round of Asylum Vol.1 on 11/26. I've just completed Body Beast and gained 6 lbs of muscle. Now it's time to carve it up a bit and regain some athleticism.

If anyone would like to join me, jump on in and get committed!

I may be here with you. Not sure? I'm finishing up Insanity (Saturday is last workout) and my Wife is due any day. I also have a strained calf muscle from Insanity that seems to be getting better every day. One final thing up in the air is my dumbell set I ordered off of Amazon. So if there is no baby, my calf is good, and I get my dumbells I should be goodl. If those stars align I will likely be with you on Monday. If not it will have to wait a week.

Either way my Asylum package arrives today! emoticon

Hey congrats on both finishing up Insanity and the new baby! Do you know if you're having a boy or girl?

Heck even if you don't start on the same day, feel free to pop in and post and just jump on in later. Glad to hear your calf is getting better?

What kind of dumbbells did you get? I have the Bowflex 552's and 1090's...more weights than I know what to do with..ha

Thanks! We are having a boy. We already have a little girl so our hands will be full!

I just bought a cheap 50 pound set on Amazon. Can't beat $38. I want a nice set of the Bowflex ones but with the incoming arrival that's not happening.

That sounds great! My daughter will be 8 next March. Daughters have a way of wrapping you around their little finger.

These rest days are tough for me. I'm not used to having a whole week off from a program. I've been doing Beachbody programs constantly for almost 2 years now.

Cool Thread! How do you think asylum will be different than insanity? I am debating...

Cheers!

The nutrition is completely different to start with. I also believe it will be more intense and since it involves weights it will focus a little more on building muscle than insanity did. I can't wait to get started!

Hey Christina,

It seems that they want you to cut more calories than with Insanity, and avoid all dairy. I'm going to be at about 2200-2400 calories a day on this. Quite a change from the 3500 I was on during Body Beast.

I've previewed most of the videos. The weights certainly seem to add more intensity. And the movements are definitely more sports specific than anything in Insanity. If I had to compare to anything else I've already done, I'd say it seems somewhat similar to the PAP routines in P90X2.

Today I'll be doing the Performance Assessment. Wish me luck!

Insanity:Asylum Sport Perfomance Assessment all done. My assessment: I need more agility practice.

The agility heisman portion really gave me a tough time. I kept hitting the ladder and my cadence would get messed up.

Also, my cardio really fell off quite a bit doing Body Beast. I'm 100% positive that it's going to come back stronger than ever after I'm all done with Asylum though.

I did speed and agility yesterday. I enjoyed the workout but am not too impressed with the loss of calories. I was burning 800 to 900 a workout in the second month of Insanity. This workout I burned 656. I'm hoping the strength workout tonight yields better results. I know the gameday workout likely will. After looking through the nutritional guide it looks like they want me eating about 400 less calories a day. Maybe that's why? Honestly I think I would prefer to eat the extra and burn the rest off. emoticon

Yeah I don't think you'll see as much calorie burn overall in Asylum as we did with the Max Intervals in Insanity, just due to the design and purpose of the program.

I have Speed & Agility today. I'm sure I won't be that fast or agile to begin with. I gotta make sure I do the moves correctly and not knock the ladder around too much. I struggled with that during the assessment on the Agility Heismans

I guess if I see my body take better shape that's okay. I was just expecting more calorie burn in this from what I've read about it. I sweat a ton!

My cooridination is going to need some work. The Heismans were okay for me. It was some of the other things like the shoulder tap thing at the end that had me laughing at myself trying to do it. He also takes zero time to explain anything. So you are learning on the fly.

I bet as we do each routine more and more we will get better and faster at it, and burn more calories along the way.

During the fit test I had to keep checking my hand and feet position and make sure I was doing it right..haha.

Hey how is your wife doing? Any day now with the new baby, right?

Yep! She has an appointment today that hopefully will give us some idea of what's going on. Her due date is the 6th. It's so hard to concentrate on anything right now.

Only 589? I'd say that's pretty good emoticon

So baby is showin' up on the 6th? That's pretty cool man. I bet it is hard to concentrate on anything at the moment.

Alright, so yesterday was Asylum Speed & Agility. This was probably the most humbled I've been doing any routine yet. During the warm-ups in the fast jump-rope sequence I kept hitting the rope. I was hitting the agility ladder on many of the agility moves. During the speed portion, I felt very slow. My cardio & endurance certainly suffered from 3 months of nothing but weight-lifting, but I know I'll get it back. With that said, I got an awesome workout in. 640 calories gone. Today is Strength, so we'll see how that goes.

Man I had a rough night sleeping last night. I sleep on my sides and my shoulders didn't appreciate it. I look forward to the core workout tonight.

As for the calorie burn? When I did Insanity during month two I was doing the workouts and adding the ab routine in just about every other night. I was burining just over 1000 calories in those sessions. So going from that to 600 concerns me a bit. But I have faith in the workouts so I will keep at it. I have cut my calories back by about 200 just in case.

Wow man you were really tearing it up burning 1000 per session. What kind of HR monitor do you use? I have the Polar FT7

I have the same one. Bought it during my recovery week. The only nights I had trouble getting over a 1000 were the Max Cardio nights and Max Recovery workouts. But again, I added cardio abs. During all the talking I would also sprint or do high knees. That added another 50 calorie loss to the routine. He talks too much in that video.

I think I might ditch it for a little after I do all the workouts once with it. That way I'm not so focused on that.
