Teen wrestler and shakeology
Teen wrestler and shakeology

has anyone heard of teen wrestlers use shakeology? I question this because i have a few friends that have boys who wrestle and have been at the point where they need to drop weight. and the way they do it is just crazy!
If i can lose 3-5lbs doing the 3 day cleanse, im sure these wrestlers can drop weight a little healthier with out the crazy dramatic diets that take away all the nutrition from their daily diets. Just wondered if anyone has come across this?? or know if this is an option for these kids??

thanks
Mayra

Shakeology could help here, for sure, though weight loss in wrestling and boxing are kind of like traditions, like hell week in football. Both fighters and wrestlers would do better to stay a little closer to their weight limit in general so they wouldn't have to put their bodies through such excessive turmoil right before a contest which can't really help performance but I think they just kind of enjoy the weight cut ritual. The movie Occupation: Fighter has some good weight cutting scenes near the end (it's on Netflix).

So, anyway, the way most people cut weight is mainly dehydrating and then hydrating and this isn't unhealthy unless you get it wrong. Some of the crazy eating practices would be made a little easier with Shakeology, though oddly enough the hardest thing on the body is probably eating a ton after the weigh-in right before a match where they're going full bore anaerobicaly the entire time. I would encourage staying close to the weight limit during training so that you don't have to roll the dice performance wise if you make a nutritional mistake in the days leading up the the match.

Agree with the shakeology part...Shakeology is a great way for wrestlers to consume healthy calories loaded with vitamins, nutrients and superfoods. the 3 day cleanse is a good option because they are taking in whole foods and designed to help to you kick start your fitness journey, jump plateaus or drop some pounds quickly in a safe and healthy manner. You will remove harmful toxins from your body. The main point being they will still get adequate nutrition. You will not starve or feel emaciated with no energy.

I disagree on the hydration/dehydration aspect...This practice usually hurts more than it helps. Athletes who do this feel weaker, which affects performance. They can also have more serious problems, like abnormalities in the salt and potassium levels in the body. Such changes can also lead to problems with the heart's rhythm.
