What's the best type of dumbbell?
The reason I'm bringing this up is because my little brother wants to start bodybeast, he lives across country so sharing weights is problematic. I use bowflex's select a size since I don't have near the amount of room needed for a full rack of weights but he does. I'm buying him the weights for Christmas but as a person who has only ever used select a size I don't know if its the best option given the choice for alternatives.

Select a size has negatives mainly because of the way the weights are designed I find at times its hard to correctly do certain moves, for example close grip press I find the weights are to wide and thin causing them to sit uneven and my arms are sticking out to much. Since sagi uses separate weights in quick succession I also find myself having to quickly rush up to dial in the next set and get back into position. They are also very fragile, I broke the mechanism when they fell maybe 4 inches and it cost me $150 to replace the center piece for both weights. Don't get me wrong I like the weights I'm just not sure if they are the best choice, I rarely if ever see any professional use them.

I'm buying him weights in a couple weeks and your input would go a long way in helping me decide whats best for him. Thanks everyone

I just bought a set of Powerblocks, and I absolutely love them. They are a little bit on the pricey side, but it's well worth it in my opinion. I'm unfamiliar with the Body Beast workouts but they work very well with the P90X workouts. Weight switch time can take anywhere from 2 second to maybe 15 seconds. Check them out.

Thanks I'll take a look for sure. I used the select tech for P90X as well and had no issues, bodybeast just seems to have more moves that involve keeping the weights closer together.

Edit: Ha funny story, I seen those on kijiji (Canada's craigslist) and thought they were retro weights from the 80s because of the colors. I'll definitely have to take a closer look now.

I use the bowflex ones, but may people like the select tech. That's super cool of you! I just got my sister a program. My parents got hit hard with the hurricane and she really helped them out- put them up for over 3 weeks. Wanted to surprise her with something she wanted. love sharing health! emoticon

You are doing body beast?

Cheers,
Christina

Ya I'm on the third week of the bulk faze, loving it although I'm still having my typical issues with not being able to gain weight.

Thanks for the responses I'll have to check a few systems out and see what he prefers.
