Recovery drink replacment?
11/23/12 5:44 AM
Hi There,

I'm a new member so I do apologise if this has already been covered.

I recently purchased Insanity as I wanted to change my lifestyle. I plan on starting the workout on the 1st of Dec and I have been doing my research on everything from space and equipment to food and nutrition. One thing I came across was the fact everyone said that having a recovry drink within 20 mins after the workout. After looking into the one recommended from here I realised its not for sale in the UK! (which, funnily enough is where im from) :-P I Also realised I could not access any of the nutrition and supplements offered on this website as it is only available in the US.

So my question after this long winded explination is, what should I use instead of that recovery drink that will bring the same results?

Many Thanks

There are many other recovery drinks on the market, but most of them will tell you to focus on a 4:1 ratio... Meaning 4 part carbohydrates (mostly simple sugars) to 1 part protein. You need the simple sugars and protein in this case to help with your recovery and soreness. A little creatine doesn't hurt either.

Thanks Marc,

Are there certain types of food I could blend with a protein shake to get that? Or am I best sticking to ready made formulas?

Cheers

Ready made formulas are much easier, but u could always buy some of the ingredients separate and put if all together. The taste would be horrible, at least it was for me.

Lots of people use the chocolate milk method, but the numbers don't quite work out as well, and the sugars tend to go overboard.

Do you recommoend any ready made ones in particular or are they pretty similar?

(sorry for all the questions Im a bit of a newb to the whole nutrition thing and I want to make sure I get it right)

Look up For Goodness Shakes.

You can get the powder from Amazon I think (either in a tub or as individual sachets)or, if not, there are a lot of other UK suppliers. You can get ready made drinks in Asda, but they are far too expensive - much, much cheaper to get the powder and make em yerself.

I'm now living on the other side of the pond and am gutted cos I can't get them over here. They have a 3:1 carb:protein ratio and more importantly they taste great (well the Vanilla and strawberry ones do at any rate). I noticed a big difference when I used them.

Hope that helps a wee bit.

Thanks Moss Nada,

That Looks ideal. Its not too expensive and is easily available for purchase on ebay.

Starting the Insanity program on the 1st of Dec. Looking to join one of the ENGAGE groups that they have on here for tips and support through out the 60 days but they dont seem to have any for december? Is that because they dont set them up until they are in the month that they are doing it? Or is it because no one is doin it over xmas and new year?? lol.

Cheers,
Stu

Groups are always available. You may not start off when everyone else does, unless you are in a challenge group.... But u can always jump in and start at any point. The main purpose is for accountability and help with questions you may have. It's a really great system.

oh and on a quick side note,

The Elite Nutrition thing says you need to eat 5 meals a day. Does the recovery drink count as one of those meals?
