Beastly Hands
Beastly Hands
hands body beast lifting tips
11/23/12 2:11 PM
Hello! I'm now just finishing up my 4th week of Body Beast and I love it. I am gaining muscle and lifting more than I ever have. However, my hands get tired from holding so much weight. I know I could do more reps if I could just hold onto the weight, such as in dead lifts. Any suggestions on how to build muscles in my hands or any tips on how to hold the weight without having to rest because my hands can't hang on?

Thanks,
Nick

get lifting straps and use them only near the end when your grip really has nothing left but the muscles you're working still have more in them. don't become completely reliant on them though. otherwise your grip and forearm strength may suffer.

Nicholas, you can always buy yourself a Body Weight Vest, that will allow you to had more weight like on legs day or on bodyweight exercises.

Things I have done to hold onto that monsterous weight that is our dumbells, is to try a grip master or other rock climbing training/warmup tools. also on arm day if you have dumbells like the nautilus or other open set then you can stand with the weights at your sides and roll the weight to your fingertips, then clench and roll it back to your palms. Squeeze and hold two weight plates together in the air, and then get something to put weights on. grab the heaviest stuff you can and hang on as long as possible. Set it down before you drop it.

Have you considered Fat Gripz or Grip4orce? The weight you are pushing/pulling will decrease initially, but your grip strength will build up pretty quick. After that, alternate between thick grip and standard grip each week, increasing weight on the standard grip weeks.

I'm not a fan of lift straps because a) you aren't addressing the problem of weak grip and b) I've seen too many people become dependent on them, and seriously hurt themselves
