P90 or Insanity?

As I have both programs, I'm in a wee bit of a quandary about which would be better to kick off with.

I've done P90 on and off for a few years now (although never managed to complete a full 90 day cycle) and I am just about able to complete the Insanity workouts (by which I mean I'm a sodden, tangled, wreck of limbs by the end of it, but I'm still alive!).

My goal at the moment is to build some muscle on my upper body and tone up my core - any advice on which program I should be going for first?

I intend to complete both in succession, but am just not too sure about whether I should go for Insanity first to build up my stamina and thus be able to do more when I start P90....

or....

whether I should try using P90 to build up muscle then use Insanity to tone everything up and get my body fat % down.


Any advice or past experience would be greatly appreciated emoticon

I did 2 rounds of Insanity and with the second round, I really subbed in the Upper Body Weights DVD and did more of the Insane Abs, and I really toned up! I have never tried P90X, so I cannot speak to that, but Insanity allows you to modify the workouts and sub in the advanced DVD's for more of a challenge. I lost a weight the first round, but I toned up the second.

If your goal is to put some muscle on I would do P90X. A better alternative to P90X to build muscle is The Beast program. Let me know If I can help you in any way!

Thanks for the replies folks emoticon

Probably should have explained in a bit more detail that I'm currently on an oil rig for the next 4 weeks and only have the P90 (original - not P90X) and Insanity discs with me, so I was gonna start one or the other.

Having taken a before pic last night, I think I'll go for Insanity as I need to lose fat and now!! lol I'll work on building muscle later once I get a lower bodyfat %
