Bad knees
Bad knees

Okay so i have bad knees. They arent from anything but exercising. About a year ago i would just go all out on working out and woudn't listen to my body and now i am left with bad knees emoticon (only when i workout). For example, today i was going to do the new X Trainer workout from Insanity: The Asylum Volume 2 but half way through the WARMUP, my knees starting hurting very badly and i had to stop. Are there any ways to get rid of this knee pain all together? Please anything will help. Thanks in Advance!

I tore my ACL/Meniscus and I was feeling my knees weaken before it happened. My training consisted of MMA intense jumping cardio which INSANITY is famous for. If you blow your knee out you will be in immense pain for 3-4 mos after surgery and a FULL year recovery....switch to a lower impact cardio, or improvise with what you cant do. Also focus on strength training your hips and glutes. The muscles around the knee need enough strength to handle impact. I learned all that the hard way.

I would also look at your footware and the type of flooring
you are working out on, especially for the PAP, and Plyocide
type workouts.
Regular sneakers and concrete would be the worst case scenario.
A good pair of workout shoes and a good sports floor
(try getting a remanent from a local supplier or
just using two sided tape with yoga mats)are really
importnt especially if you have a history of knee issues

I hate hearing when people have knee problems from working out. I had my first knee surgery when I was 17 and have had several more over the years. I'd definitely suggest seeing a doctor to rule out any kinds of serious issues that may cause serious structural damage to your knees.

Assuming that checks out, I would look very seriously at your form and currently weaknesses you have in your legs, specifically your quadriceps to hamstring strength ratio. I think these should fall somewhere between 3:2 and 1:1. An imbalance can be the cause of a lot of issues that plague people. Flexibility can be another big issue that causes knee pain. If your hamstrings/glutes/IT bands are tight they can cause issues all the way down.

Personally, I've found that adding 20-30 bodyweight squats while holding onto a door frame (to make sure my knees are in line with my ankles) is enough to keep me pain free. It's a little tedious, and sometimes people look at me weird, but it's one of the best discoveries I made for a pain free me.

Good luck, and keep us posted.
