Should I consume more calories?
I started at 218 lbs, 8.58% BF. The guide said to eat 3900 calories, which I have been following along with the macros faithfully (tracking using myfitnesspal). Halfway through my 3rd week of Build, I'm at 218 lbs, and 8.73% BF. I weigh myself every morning right after waking up to ensure proper calorie calculation during workouts, the BF calc I did before I started as a baseline, and the most recent one was just to check my progress.

Before starting, I did P90X and then a Hybrid of Insanity/P90X. I rested one week between each program.

My initial thought is that my metabolism is still high after doing so much cardio, so I might need more calories.

Any thoughts?

Are you doing the Lean Beast or Huge Beast ?

If your weight didn't move yet i would had 200 calories / day for the bulk phase and see after 2-3 weeks if you are gaining mass or not, if it still doesn't move i would up by another 200 calories. Don't add too much as you don't want your body to store a lot of body fat.

Okay like i said start by adding 200 calories then another 200 if it not enough. That basically what i did in my first round.

And if at the end of Bulk phase you are still have a low body fat you can add a few weeks to the phase before going into the beast phase.

I and many others ended up adding 300-500 calories in the Bulk Phase just to keep from LOSING weight. Don't worry about the fat...it comes off in the Beast Phase when you go on a slight deficit in calories at a higher protein diet. At your current rate you will finish Body Beast with less muscle mass and weight than you started so yes eat more!

I put on 13 pounds from beginning to Bulk, and going from 4000 calories per day to 2400 per day and then on the competition plan had me losing almost 3 pounds per week in the Beast Phase. It comes off quick man...almost too quick...lost some muscle along the way too. But overall I finished 12 lbs up on Lean Body Mass. Body fat dropped from 15% to 11% and my total weight went up 5 lbs. But my arms grew over an inch!

What is your goal? 10 lbs more lean body mass?

My goal is to weigh at least 225 (don't care where I end up, as long as it's 225 or more) with roughly the same BF as when I started. Not certain if this can be attained with Huge Beast alone, so I had anticipated doing either Asylum, another Insanity/P90X hybrid or Lean Beast after I finish in February. In either case, gaining fat right now doesn't bother me. I know how easily it can come off.

I dont think you will need to do asylum after to shred off fat unless you put on fat easily. I dropped my body fat 4% in the beast phase while still keeping 6 pounds of muscle mass so yeah go for it.

Ok, cool. I had been wondering about that since I started. I don't seem to put on fat that quickly, so it sounds like I'll be just fine. Thanks for the feedback.

I just wanted to confirm what everyone else is saying.

I am in my last week of body beast right now and during most of the build and bulk portions I consumed five hundred to seven hundred more than the program suggested and I ended up gaining very little fat. And for some reason most of that fat seemed to come during the first few weeks.

I was also like you in that I was sure that I would have to do some other program to cut the fat later which was fine with me. But I checked my body fat this morning and I am at 6.2% and although I am not positive, I thought that my body fat was about 8% before I started, but it may have been a little lower.

This morning I also weighed 8.8 pounds more than I did when I started and since my body fat percentage has gone down, I can only assume that it is all muscle. I have also been very pleased during the Beast phase to have lost very little if any muscle.

PatCella : Everybody is not the same but this seams to be a thrend for most people. Anyway i wouldn't worry about gaining too much fat if you are following you nutrition and eating clean, it shouldn't be a problem to cut back the fat you gained.

The bulk/build phase are only 9 weeks long, i don't see anybody gaining extreme body fat in only 2 months unless you are eating everything that you see and not tracking anything.
