Fat Burning Diet Questions?
Fat Burning Diet Questions?
fat burning muscle building

Hey everyone!

I started p90x on Monday and have been eating from what I think, a strict diet the last few days; however, I am not quite sure if its exactly rite for what I plan to do for myself. The next 90 days I want to build and burn as much fat as humanly possible. I am a 26 year old male, 5'11, 218 lbs, solid frame, and 30.1% body fat.

I've been using the 1900 calorie a day diet thats splits up into three groups: 50% Proteins, 30% carbs, and 20% Fats. Which breaks down in weight to: 238g Protein, 143g Carbs, 42g Fats, 34g Sugar, and 20g Fiber. Does this sound right to you? Will I build lots of muscle, and burn most my fat with this?

thanks,emoticon

Hello Haiku86,

I think you are right on target with nutrition. Revisit after 30 days. IF you find that you are tired all the time and lacking energy, you might need to increase cals to around 2400.

Make sure you are doing 8-10 reps with resistance, as this will help build mass. This combined with the high-intensity workouts will burn fat.

Hope this helps!

Your numbers sound right. I want to caution you that it's unlikely that you'll lose "lots of weight" and build "lots of muscle" at the same time. The reason why is that to lose a lot of weight you need to be eating at a calorie deficit. To build a lot of muscle you want to be at a surplus. The body can do wonderful things and the right calorie intake combined with hard workouts like P90X will often result in losing weight and building some muscle, but don't expect to be all bulging biceps at the end of your first round. More likely you'll want to lose your weight until you are happy and then change your diet to focus on increasing muscle.

Another thing is that often people LOOK ripped at the end of losing a bunch of weight because, really, they had good muscles before that weren't showing through a layer of fat. That's pretty much the story of 6 pack abs for most of us.
