Need Advice on my Next Program
Hey guys - looking for your thoughts on my next program...

As background my first BB program was Power 90, then Power 90 Master Series, then P90X Classic. I lost about 25 lbs on the first program and have done a bit more toning in Master and P90X.

I am about to finish Round 1 of P90X Classic and while I enjoyed it, and I will come out of it losing only another couple of inches, a couple of % body fat but no real decrease in overall weight. I still have about 15 lbs or so that I really want to lose and I am considering switching over to Insanity to really shred more fat.

I guess my biggest concern here is that Insanity does not have weight training and I am really afraid that I will lose the progress I have made, specifically in my upper body (biceps, chest and shoulders). I thought also about doing P90X lean which has a little more cardio, but when I looked at the lineup I don't see that much difference between Lean and Classic.

Would love to hear some thoughts on this, especially from folks who have done both P90X and Insanity.

Thanks so much!

Amanda

P.S. I do follow the meal plans that come with the programs pretty religiously, tracking everything I eat; though I will say that I do tend to stray a bit more toward the end of the 90 day cycles.

Hi Amanda,

Great job so far! Seems like solid progression through the programs. My thought is to have you do a P90X Classic/Insanity hybrid. Basically it is a program where you do the resistance training of P90X and add in some more higher intensity cardio of Insanity. You can find the hybrid Here. Check it out. I have done all these programs and hybrids so can help you with your questions. Just ask...

Thanks Mike! So if I did only insanity, is it likely that I would lose the muscle I've built? Or more likely that I would expose it?

Hi Amanda,

Insanity does have some resistance training included but a bit different than P90X. As an example, you do not lift any weights (except for 1 additional DVD...more on that later) but do many pushups, some tricep and shoulder work. I think for 60 days you do not need to worry too much about loosing what you have gained IMO. Now...Shawn T has an additional DVD which includes weights...upper body workout that you can do a couple of times a week along with the regular Insanity workouts...that would do the trick.

I did P90X and then insanity. The hybrid as mike says is a good idea. I do feel that its worth doing Insanity along first and then the hybrid. I did not lose the muscle I had gained with P90X!

Bring it! ;)

If you like Tony Horton and his workouts, have you thought about doing P90X2, I would think it follows the path you are currently in. You've completed all the P90 workouts, why not progress to the next level of fitness with X2?

CoachMikeMJM - Thanks again - you've been alot of help!

CoachCBove - Thanks, definitely wanted perspective from someone who has done both (and in that order)

hdkdanny - I hadn't really thought about that angle only because I suppose I figured that if P90X didn't get the fat loss I was looking for then P90X2 likely wouldn't either. And actually I really am NOT looking forward to not having Tony for 60 days. Perhaps I will take a look at the P90X2 and see what it offers.

Thanks again to all of you! I'm in my last week of P90X now so I have a couple of weeks to decide, I think I am just going to finish out the year with some of my favorite workouts from P90X to stay active while I am choosing so I can start fresh in 2013.

If your the kind of person who enjoys cardio, go with Insanity. (I'm not, and I hated it). If you enjoyed P90X, go for P90X2! I was in the same spot as you are about 2 months ago. I am not happy that I chose Insanity and can't wait to get back to P90X type workouts.

Good luck with whatever you choose though!
