Very Little Muscle Gain
Very Little Muscle Gain

I have one week left with Insanity. Have enjoyed the challenge for the most part, but it does become monotonous fairly quickly. I have lost a TON of weight, and truth be told, I probably only needed to lose 15 pounds. Today I put on a pair of pants that are size 32 and they were too big! I have never been this thin. Even in high school when I skated every day I had a 32 inch waist. I have always been skinny/lanky. I did get way overweight right after I turned 30 and metabolism slowed down, but I lost all that weight and then slowly put on the 15-20 pounds that I've lost with Insanity.

I've been following the nutrition plan the entire time, haven't skipped workouts, and rarely have to quit during the workouts for a break. I'm in amazing shape to be honest, but I'm still crazy skinny. I'm more toned and I've seen a fairly noticeable change in my thighs, but otherwise, my legs look like chicken legs and my arms like string beans. Looking at all the before and after pics, I'm not getting the results I hoped for. No six pack, no chest, etc. I'm sooooo sick of eating turkey, chicken breast, and egg whites and I can't wait for next week when I can eat like a normal human again.

What have I done wrong here? I've basically been eating around 1500 calories a day the entire time, though in the last couple weeks I've been adding about 300 calories a day of mostly protein. Do you have to do multiple rounds to get "ripped" as they say? I just don't see it happening and the whole program is starting to seem like false advertising. I'm in shape, but not the kind of shape it advertises. Thanks for any help.

Great job on the weight loss!

I have done 2 rounds of Insanity & got better results the second time...but moved on to another beachbody program now BodyBeast! emoticon

You need to remember that everyones results are different. Everyones body reacts different to the workouts. Some it may come easy & others have to work harder....like me.

I wanted to add size & strength so i went with body beast. If you need to only lose 15lbs it maybe a good fit. it has a lean program. First you bulk up & the build & then shred the last 30 days. My husband did Insanity with me he did gain in size of chest but for his goal Insanity wont reach it. It sounds like you want to get big & ripped?

Let me know if you need anymore help,

Carlie

Actually, I DON'T want to get big and ripped. I'm not a fan of that look, honestly. People like Shaun T are way too big for my taste. I just want some kind of definition. Looking at me from the side I'm straight up and down. For lack of a better description, I want a model's body. Not big, but defined. At least a little muscle. Don't feel like I've gained much after 60 days of pushing myself to the limit and it's pretty frustrating.

I should of been more descriptive....I didn't mean as big as him But the definition he has.....getting big like the beast is not my goal Or my husbands we both have goal pick on our wall by our workout calender. His is about the same look your going for model type.

It can be frustrating but don't give up! To the muscle you are going to need to lift some weight to add size so you don't look straight up & down anymore.

let me know if I can help you in any other way. Do you post on a accountability thread? I have a great one. You can meet others wanting the same result & stay motivated... sounds like you could use some. I hope you keep at it!

Do you have the upper body weight training workout for Insanity? That is a great one to lift weights & Gain some size in your chest?

Carlie

I do not have the muscle-building workout. It didn't come with the Insanity package I bought. Is that something I have to buy separately? Having almost completed the program, a lot of the before/after pictures don't seem realistic. It will definitely make you lose weight because the cardio and diet are so extreme, but it hasn't worked as a big muscle-builder for me. I don't think it's possible to not lose weight on it, though.

I really appreciate your replies, by the way. Maybe I'll just do it again in the new year. It's not like it's bad for you, right?
