I'm pumped about the new Les Mills Combat workout program! I've pre-ordered it and will start it January 1st. I really enjoyed the Kenpo X in P90X and P90X+, it was a fun way to burn some calories. I also enjoyed the Les Mills Pump program, so when I heard about the new Combat program, I ordered it right away.

I've been hooked on Beachbody workouts for the past 2+ years and like the format of committing to a program for 60-90 days and then trying something new. All the Beachbody programs focus on the one-two punch; good nutrition and exercise! Committing to a program keeps me motivated and trying new programs keeps me engaged.

Here is a quick summary of the Combat workout:

- 7 High-Intensity Workouts for explosive fat-burning, strength-building moves from 6 major martial arts disciplines to help you punch, kick, block, and strike your way to an outrageously strong and lean body. It’s a breakthrough fusion of the most dynamic moves from karate, tae kwon do, boxing, muay thai/kickboxing, capoeira, and jiu-jitsu, arranged in explosive, escalating patterns—all designed to help you burn massive amounts of calories, amp up your strength, and maximize your lean-muscle definition, fast. LES MILLS COMBAT works your fast-twitch muscle fibers—the ones with the greatest capacity for change—like crazy.

If you are interested in joining me on this journey, please respond and comment on this thread. I will check in daily and keep the conversation moving!

Rooting for your success,
Steve

Thanks for starting this thread. I enjoyed the Welcome to Power 90 group and look forward to Combat. I have done martial arts in the past and really enjoyed it so this is something I am looking forward to.

Love the thread title. That was a great movie.

The title reference shows our age but I thought it would be humorous...Can you dig it?

I did Les Mills Pump - Hard Core Abs and Kenpo X last night as I'm trying to get into fighting condition for Combat!

Have a great workout today,

Steve

Wow, you are really working hard. I have been in a bit of a maintenance mode lately. The last couple weeks were pretty bad with only a few workouts. Honestly, my body didn't mind the break. I'm about 4 years older than you are and sometimes I feel it. Much less so than before I started P90, but recovery is something I have come to value.

Today was Sweat 5-6 and AR200. I pushed hard on the cardio and started AR right after the cool down. I got through 186 crunches with only a couple breaths between sets before my body yelled "Stop!". I took a couple deep breaths and finished it off. I am amazed at how that combination can leave me soaked and quivering.

frreed - Sweat 5-6 and AR200 is a tough workout as well! I've not been as consistent over the past couple months since finishing the Body Beast as I've been doing a variety of workouts. I personally am more focused and engaged when I commit to a single workout program, which is why I'm looking forward to Combat. It is always challenging over the holidays to stay with a program so January 1st will be my start date. I like the thought of a 60 day cardio program to kick off the New Year and get me back in the flow of working out.

Your body does need a break every once and a while to recover, so I usually take a month off between programs (although I still workout 4-5 times a week, it's not as intense as a 6 day a week program).

Hope you have a great day...looking for some more Warriors to join our thread!

I saw that the LM Combat workout has posted and should ship out in the next day or two! Although I will not start the program until January, I will preview it and do some of the routines so I hit the ground running. Until then, I'm doing a variety of workouts (P90X+, LM Pump, Body Beast and playing Basketball).

Hope you can join in the fun, please post and let me know when you are starting Combat.

Just wanted to post a note so I could subscribe to the forum and will check back when my program arrives. I haven't decided wether or not to start it right away or wait until January like you are. Will preview the program as well, until the Kenpo it is :-) Have a great day everyone!

I just scheduled 60 days of LM Combat in Supergym. I decided to do the Base course. It has two days off in each week and that works best with my schedule. I'll be starting 12/31 so my start day is on a Monday. That keeps Sunday as a consistent day off. Sunday has been my off/cheat day since I started BB.

i am going to start a different program as well tomorrow the met-rx 180 that i won at a macys event where i met Frank Sepe...
that doesnt look as intense as p90x so i figure i will more than likely do the LM Combat in the mournings and the frank sepe in the evening...

I'm hoping mine arrives tomorrow. My plan is to work through the workouts between now and the end of the month. I'll mix it up with Master Series. I hear you about flailing around. I have done martial arts before and I have a basic understanding of the moves, but the flying grace of Jackie Chan or the flowing power of Bruce Lee escapes me.

Alright Kevin! I just received mine today, so it sounds like those who pre-ordered should get them this week! It is a strength day today, so I will table my excitement to jump into something new until tomorrow.

Sounds like we are all on the same page with previewing the workouts and getting the moves down before an "official" start. I am going to go with the standard plan, which is 5 days a week so I can add in a day or two of strength training or basketball.

I did not buy the gloves but have a pair from a heavy bag (which I might hang or buy a stand for some extra work). In looking at the booklet, I don't think the gloves are necessary, sounds more like to help you get proper form on punches and to look the partemoticon

Hope everyone has a great workout today!

I hope I get mine today. As for the gloves, I think they are pretty much for show. A good pair of sparring gloves would add about 1/4 pound to each hand so that would have a slight effect. Also the gloves will allow you to hold better form when punching without clenching your hand into a tight fist. This can cause a lot of stress on the forearm. I may pick up a pair of MMA gloves, but that is not something that would keep me from starting the workouts.

frreed - you are right on point, I glanced through the booklet that came with the program and they had the same comment about the purpose of the gloves when making a fist. In my old house I had an unfinished basement and had a heavy bag hanging from the rafters. It was a pretty good workout hitting it. My current house has a finished basement so I might buy a stand this Christmas.

I actually did the Arms workout from the Power Half Hour series (Tony Horton's Total Body Solution) because I forgot my Beast workout sheet. That Arms workout is a great half hour workout that hits, Chest, Shoulders, Bi, Tri and Back. Last year when I did Insanity, I would throw in this Arms workout on an off day for a little more strength training.

yep, i watched the intro dvd first where it walks you through the moves and stances etc, but i was so amped about it that i really need to do it again and slow down and pay attention to it...
i am also going to do the standard plan, as i am going to do the LMC workouts in the morning and i am also doing the met r x 180 frank sepe program, and will do his workouts in the evening...

this morning the power hiit put a whooping on me...was keeping up pretty good, used 10 and 15 pound weights but at the end those dang burpees and hops and mountain climbers i slowed down... was staying up in the high 160s and low 170s for heart rate...whoa...

and i will be going and picking up some mma gloves this weekend as well...

tell you what the trainers in the workouts are phenomenal and very motovating!!!

Mine was waiting for me when I got home this afternoon. I watched the Basics DVD and was familiar with most of it. I watched Kickstart and then did it. It moves so fast. I kept up with most of it and only had to reset a couple times in each set. It is a very different type of workout than what I am used to. Perhaps the most amazing thing was how quickly the 30 minutes went by. I was sweating a bunch, but not totally wiped out. My first impression was that it was not that good of a workout. About an hour later my core told me otherwise. I really think this will be just what I wanted. Lots of upper body and core with enough legs to keep them solid.

Tomorrow I'll try one of the HIIT workouts.

Pain is weakness leaving the body. Stay in the fight. Good USMC mindset.

Still waiting for my DVD, being in Canada takes a few days longer I'm sure, sounds like everyone is having fun though:-) See you soon!
