Creatine and whey protein
12/4/12 4:47 AM
I am having difficulty finding women's results with doing P90X and taking Shakeology, whey protein and creatine. Has anyone done this and if so when is it best to take each? My calorie intake right now is 1200. Should my calorie intake change also while taking these?

Why such a low calorie intake? You can raise it to 1600 and still lose weight.

Why whey protein? You dont need it unless you need the extra protein

Creatine makes you hold on to water so it might make you look abit more fluffy.

I'm only taking in 1200 calories right now because I'm in the middle of a challenge. I saw some 2 female success stories of women who had taken whey protein and only one took creatine. So I was just wondering if it was typical for a woman's to do the both of them. I'm Already drinking Shakeology so I wasn't sure if that alone was going to give me the results I want.

If she can pull through the workouts i dont see why not.
I dont think she cares that much about muscle mass.

And if you are talking about "starvation mode" It doesnt exist.

HEYI know of many women in your same boat....me included. I drink shakeology & drink R&R result & recovery by beachbody which has creatine in it. Shakeology you can use it for any meal. But you should be consuming the creatine after a workout. You only has a window of 30-60min. after a workout to feed you body what is needs to get the best results. Your calorie intake is to low you many lose weight at first but it will come to a stop once your body isn't getting to fuel it needs to continue with the workouts. I hope this helps let me know if you have anymore questions emoticon

The R&R would be better to take compared to the straight creatine?

Id say, if you can eat within an hour after your workout, food is better.

Also if you want toning you wont get that much on a calori deficit, you might have to go into calorie balance or a small surplus to get abit of definition.

Creatine is great post workout but you need to cycle it. 6 weeks on and 6 weeks off. I would put 5 grams in a Post Workout Drink and Results and Recovery is a great one to put it in. If not Results and Recovery then just use Apple Juice but add 10 grams of unflavored whey to it. You want a recovery drink as soon as you are done working out.

I have had fantastic results with P90x and Body Beast following the nutrition guides and the concept of the Recovery Drink. The recovery drink has a ratio o 3 or 4 to 1 carbs to protein with more carbs than protein. I started with creatine, protein, and apple juice in P90x and graduated to the Beast Shakes of Body Beast...keeping the ratios the same.

Your calorie number sounds way to low. You have to feed the machine with P90x to get the best results possible and if toned is what you want you will have a difficult time at the low calorie amount. I honestly prefer the following macro and put all my clients on it since it is balanced and builds muscle: 50% carbs, 30% protein and 20% fat. Muscle burns fat, build the muscle and burn the fat. The calorie amount determines whether you gain, maintain, or lose weight. If you need help running the numbers, head over to my P90x calculator:

Then have your bloodwork checked to see if your creatinine levels go up. Then come back and tell me if it's a myth.

Also, it's nice to see where you end up. If you plateau on creatine, lay off it...initially your strength will drop, but you will end up back where you were, just in time for another cycle, and to push past your plateau for new gains.

I agree that you are not taking in enough calories for your workout. As far as the creatine goes, the amount in RR is not enough to make any muscle changes. It is only there to help in recovery. I agree with RB. If you are looking at adding muscle you should be taking in 5grams. Now that being said the studies that have been done with women show that creatine is not as effective as with men. As far as the "puffy" issue, as with many supplements it does effect people in differnt ways. Creatine moves water out of your blood stream and into your muscles. It is important that you hydrate. As far as having to cycle there is some debate but myself I do cycle with it. There is some concern that if you do not than it may be hard on your kidneys. Again, I know there is debate on the issue. For your peace of mind creatine is one of the most reseached supplements and so far nothing but positive reults have been found. I would reccomend that if you are looking for muscle that you up the creatine to 5 grams and put it in a Whey protien shake withen 20-30 min of your workout. I would also consider trying some casien protien before bed. My wife did all these things while doing p90X, feel free to check out her results, she has pics up. Gerilynn Lucareli. Hope that helps. She also takes Shakology.
