Insanity - Calories
Insanity - Calories

Hi guys! I'm a 42 year old woman who is 5'11" and currently weighs 260 pounds. I used the Insanity formula to calculate how much I should be eating and I'm getting 2500 calories a day! I made sure I took out the -500 to lose weight emoticon

Could this be accurate? Can I really expect to LOSE weight eating 2500 calories a day and doing Insanity?

Hey Julie!!

That sounds about right! Subtracting 500 calories helps you lose 1 lb a week, but you can do up to a deficit of 1000 to lose 2lbs a week as long as you don't drop below 1200 though. So if your goal is a healthy weight loss, you could do 2,000 a day instead and lose 2lbs a week. When I was working towards my goal weight, I alternated between my -500 deficit number and my -1000 deficit number every week to keep my body guessing and it worked really well. How is Insanity going, or are you just starting it now? Is this your first workout program?

Talk to you soon!

Make sure they are the right calories. Some people will calculate the calories then maintain their poor food selections.

Think of it more as 2,500 calories of fuel. You'll need every one of those calories.

For me, my calculated calories left me feeling stuffed for the first couple of weeks. It was honestly the most "full" I have ever been in my life. After that, it slowly turned to "just right" and at the start of month two I had to add in more calories.

While at face value it seems counter intuitive, the system does work if you eat the right foods (like from the Elite Nutrition Guide).
