Insanity and Knee Pains??
Insanity and Knee Pains??
12/5/12 12:47 PM
Hi Everyone, I am on week 3 of Insanity and just noticed yesterday that my knee joints are starting to hurt. It affected my movements today during the work out. I have read posts on the forum here that many have complained about having sore knees. I am wondering if this is a temporary thing or if I am to blame for not doing proper form? I am a healthy 33 year old person who is pretty active (well, extremely active on Insanity) so I am not sure why my knees are just starting to hurt NOW, especially since its been a good 3 weeks doing all the moves.

Any suggestions or tips? Is this normal? I don't want to ruin my knees for good on this program so I am a bit worried.

Btw I do take my recovery formula faithfully and have my 70-80G of protein a day...I am an ovo vegetarian so my calcium isn't that high...I wonder if taking more calcium supplements and glucosamine/msm will help?

I am sorry to hear you are having the same problem as I did. I didn't really notice my knee pain until Phase II. I am continuing to battle the problem (12 weeks past usage) and have since stopped the Insanity program after using it for 3 months (2 months on Phas I, one month on Phase II).

I would welcome any replies to this as well. I am considering the Les Mills Combat program to replace my higher intensity workouts, but am concerned on how my knee will hold up to the jumping and directional changes even though I wear a brace when working out.

It maybe that you need to land softer I know it makes the moves harder but its easier on the knee's. I had the same problem & started landing softer & the problem went away....remember Insanity is a high impact workout.

I have completed Insanity twice so let me know if you have any question.

Check out my thread for support too.

Glucosamine would be good but I would try landing softer first before adding it.

talk with you soon, Carlie emoticon

Hi Lisa,

Softer landing might help, but there could be another problem causing this. It's called Petallar Femoral Syndrome is usually caused from tight IT bands. A tightened IT Band will pull on your knee cap and cause pain. The way to fix this is to use use a foam roller to get the knots out and this will reduce the pain. Also, thigh quads and hip flexors could be contributing, so you would want to roll them as well.

Thanks for your tips everyone. I worked out with a trainer for 3 months and never had knee issues because I know how to land softly. I am extremely cautious when doing the Insanity workouts so I don't know if my landings are the issue. I find that when I do "butt kicks" or those "ins and outs", that may lead to wear and tear on my knees..otherwise, I can jog and lift my knees upwards with no issues. I can actually hear my knee joint clicking when I move it now....still kinda worried. If Phase 2 is going to get harder, I am worried even more.
