eatign schedule

So here's my question, I"m going to do p90x, first thing in the morning. I work 9-5. So how do i start off my eating schedule? Lets say I work out at 6 for arguments sake.....

Do I eat right away?
Do I eat then wait a certain amount of time before i workout?
Do I eat after i workout?
If I do eat after my workout do i take postworkout snack at the same time or space it out?

Hi Big red,

I would eat a small snack before workout. 1/2 Banana with Peanut Butter or something similar. This will give you energy for your workout, start you metabolism, and avoid and upset stomach. You can eat a small sack 15 min. prior to workout and be fine. After your workout I would have your first meal. Make sure it has protein and carbs and have it within 30 minutes post workout. (example- 3 eggs, cup of spinach, cup of fruit.) If you are using a post workout snack/supplement then you can have that hear and then eat your next meal 3 hours later. You should be eating 5-6 time a day about every 3 hours.

I hope this helps answer your question!

Yep. You want to take advantage of the window you have right after your workout though. Our bodies metabolism is raised 1) when we eat and are digesting and 2) when we are exercising and for a little time after that.

There are two thoughts to eating right after working out: Eat right after is one and Wait an hour after training is the other. Eating right after goes with the thought that your metabolism is sped up and you burn that food off faster. Waiting a while after working is banking on your body using stored fat for fuel thus burning fat. IMO I am not fully concerned with either. I don't like to eat immediatly after training becuause it makes my stomach upset, but I also don't like to wait a really long time too. I try for around 45 minutes after my workout to have a meal.

I do however have some carbs right after training to replace glycogen stores used durning my workout. Some post workout recovery drinks have some protein in them to shuttle amino acids. I personally just have a scoop of Waxy Maiz mixed with water( a simple carb) right after my workout... and then my meal later.

If I am working out first thing in the morning I will have a scoop of whey mixed with water. If I have food sitting in my stomach durring my workout it makes my stomach upset also.

Hope that helps

Recovery drink MUST be used within 30-45 mins of your workout or else it doesn't do its job. And you shouldn't eat anything else for about 45 mins after your recovery drink. A protein bar is a different story. You can eat that whenever.

What's the reasoning for not eating anything else 45 min after the recovery drink?

The reasoning is that for recovery drink to do its job you need to maintain a 4 to 1 carb to protein ratio. If you drink recovery drink and then eat a nice turkey sandwich, for example, there goes your ratio.
