Trouble losing belly fat
Trouble losing belly fat

I have been doing P90X for 150 days. My chest, arms, shoulders and back are putting on significant muscle. My diet is very low fat and carbs. However, I cannot lose enough belly fat to have the abs I want. I do Ab Ripper 3 nights a week. Any suggestions?

Congrats on your results so far! It sounds like you probably have abs since you've been working out and specific ab workouts as well (ab ripper is no joke!) Are you getting in enough protein each day? Are you eating enough calories based on the P90X nutrition guide? You may also want to add more cardio or a high intensity interval workout like Insanity to help blast the layer of fat off. HIIT workouts have been shown to burn more fat than traditional cardio workouts especially around the stomach. Have you looked at Insanity or tried a HIIT workout before?

I also eat a low carb diet and the thing that a lot of people miss when doing this (and then don't have success) is that you can't be low-fat too. You must eat fat.

There are a lot of web sites that talk about this. I would do a google search to learn more about it.

Here is an example of ratios. You might have to tweak yours to find out where your body burns the best.

1,500 calories/day

Carbs/Day 19g 5%
Fat/Day 92g 45%
Protein/Day 150g 40%

I know how frustrating it can be. Hope this helps!

I'm going to suggest that you increase your fat intake and make it plenty of good fats. Olive oil, nuts, cold water fish... Fat in doesn't = Fat on your body. Your endocrine system NEEDS fats as a precursor to making all kind of good hormones that your body needs.

Well, I guess I can't link to any off site websites to help direct you to information on proper fat intake on a low carb diet. I definitely recommend doing some research on this topic. You will find a lot of great sites and blogs that talk about this. Good luck!
