How often does one rest? (overtraining?)
Hello everyone,

I've been doing the Insanity/P90X hybrid listed on the beachbody site for the past 10 months - i tend to just continually loop through it and although my results have been gradually getting better at times i do feel burnt out. (Hard time to sleep at night ect..)(The last few times through i did switch the normal Insanity with their "max" counterparts usually reserved for the last few weeks)

I was curious if it was ever suggested one should be taking more time off? (When looped its one day off per week), but is there ever a time one would take an entire week off or more?

Sometimes it harder to rest than do the workouts (from a will power perspective).

Has anyone ever dealt with this? Are we supposed to rest more in between bouts of the program? Has anyone ever dealt with overtraining?

It's typically suggested to take 2 weeks between rounds of whatever program you do. That can doing yoga/core cardio & balance/core syn/max recovery. And just having more off days entrirely those 2 weeks. But it's very important to take those resting periods.

Hello!

So basically it is suggested that you do the 3 month program - take 2 weeks off before you start the program again? Do you mean to say during those two weeks you do simpler workouts?

Yeah,

Just the workouts they have you do during the recovery weeks. Just do it twice if you want. But I wouldn't workout more than 5 days, give yourself a little extra off time to stretch or whatever.

My recovery period looks like this

Week 1:
X2 Core
Core Cardio and Balance
Back to Core
Off-day
Yoga
Core Synergystics
Off-day

Week 2:
Yoga
Off-day
Yoga
Off-day
Yoga
Off-day
Off-day

And on the off-days I'm stretching/foam rolling. Sometimes with one of the guided routines, sometimes just doing my own thing.

on my "off" week between rounds i usually only take one week where i do 2 total body/core workouts, 2 yoga workouts and 2 cardio workouts, and 1 day of nothing. then i start my next round. that's just me though. listen to your body and rest as much as needed.
