P90X can only do 10lbs?
P90X can only do 10lbs?

Hi!

I have a problem (at least I think it's a problem). I started P90x and completed the Chest and Back workout without a hitch (granted I can only do 2 pull-ups, but one at a time I suppose). I got up to the Shoulders and Arms workout, but it just killed me. I started out with 20lbs and completed the first 2 exercises and my muscles gave out. I then switched to 15lbs and my muscles gave out again. I can only keep it up if I lift 10s. I get tired, but not until I reach 8-10 reps (which is what Tony says is for size). It's pretty embarrassing considering I can do 40+ pushups. I feel sorta discouraged. Is this normal, or am I supposed to use the bigger weights?

I'm 16 by the way. I plan on enlisting in the Military once I finish high school, so I want to get in shape.

Thanks!

Keep going! One of the beautiful things about in-home workouts is that no one sees you if you fail. If you can only do 10lbs, do it with good form! Keep doing it until it becomes easy, then up the weight! You WILL see results if you follow the workout *and* the eating plan. Remember its a 90 day program, not a 9 day program. Give it, and your body, time to work.

Keep it up, for a long time when I was 14-15 years old (I'm 17 now and doing my second P90X round) I was skinny, not strong at all, etc. I was doing exercises with 5-15 pounds on dumbbells, and could not push much weight on things like bench press either. But now I have gotten stronger and know the form to do it right. Do it with whatever weight you need to get it done, like Tony says "Don't let your ego get in the way" just do the right weights, don't let the numbers get to your head. Write them down and focus on doing better next time. Just out of curiosity, what area of the Military are you going into? I have a couple close friends joining the Marines, I was just curious about where you're going into with the Military.

the weight is irrelevant. as long as you do whatever weight you can with good form and the last few reps burn good, you're on the right track. the weight will quickly increase... especially at your age. keep it up.

Thanks guys! I'll keep at it until I can do more.

Matt, I'm planning on enlisting in the Marine Corps as an Infantryman. Thanks for your response by the way. Really motivated me.
