Great step to both of you! Also very cool to do it together as you both can help each other out. One suggestion is to find a great support system where you can ask questions, receive motivation and tips and have some fun too. Check out ours here and if you like what you see jump on board with us.

Some quick tips to start out with are:

1) For the first two weeks, expect to be sore... A lot. After that your body will start to adjust.

2) Absolutely take your before photos. They are really great for showing your progress to yourself.

3) During the first 30 days, your weight may or may not change much. Some people it does and some it doesn't. There are a few factors for this. First is that your body composition is changing. You'll be adding muscle and losing fat. The second factor is that often times when you start intense workouts your body retains extra water. After about a month or so it stops and you'll feel like your losing a pound or two a day. I say this mostly in case this happens you won't think that you're doing something wrong or that the program isn't working. For me, the magic started around day 30.

The reason for that is also a bit of protective "swelling" and some irritation. Intense workouts break down muscle tissue, the body's natural response is swelling, one for protection, two for healing/rebuilding, three to flush out lactic acid built up during the activity.

4) Don't worry about keeping up with the people in the video. At first you probably won't be able to. MODIFY as needed.

5) Don't look at P90X as just a 90 day program. It's a lifetime program that you can do in 90 day cycles. It may take you more than 90 days to reach your goals, or even better, you may reach your goals and want to set a new one.

6) No matter what, keep pushing play.

Mike,

I'm so glad you mentioned the water retention. My socks have been digging into my legs for a few weeks now and I couldn't figure it out! I eat healthy and work out regularly and try to drink as much water as possible.

I started P90X on 12/8 and I'm still getting into the groove... I teach spin on Wednesday nights and like to do the yoga on the weekends so I haven't been able to follow the schedule exactly as it's layed out (there's no way I can teach spin and do P90x in the same day! I know my diet is lacking- I do really well during the week but weekends are hard. It's quite an adjustment, especially starting around the holidays and I have a 5 day vacation coming up in 10 days (part of the reason I started the program when I did)! Hopefully the water retention will subside before I have to show some skin on vacation!

Today is my first day on these boards and the information is overflowing! It looks like I'll have to think of specific questions and search for them as I come up with them.

Thanks!
Barb

Mike this was so helpful for me. I am doing Insanity. I'm on day 15 and have not lost an ounce. However, my waist has firmed to .25 inch less than on day one. After reading your post, I am looking forward to seeing the weight come off in a couple of weeks. This relieves the daily questioning. I'm at 130lbs and want to be at 125. That doesn't sound like much but it's a lot harder now that I'm knocking on 46's door. I loved p90 3 years ago and I'm loving Insanity now. A huge thanks goes out to all you coaches.
