Hey - I am also starting my marathon training 1/1/13 and plan on doing P90X Lean as part of my training. My marathon isn't until June, but I have a lot of work to do to get there . . . starting from ground zero. I would love to have a group together with others who are combining running with P90X as I have heard a lot of people on the boards say you shouldn't combine the two.

I'm in as well. I will be using P90X2 workouts as well. My marathon is on May 5th in Lincoln, NE. This will be my 2nd marathon as well as having run 2 half marathons. Will be starting my training on Dec. 31st.

RunningGirl6 - I used P90x while training for my marathon and my splits were both faster than when I stictly used running in training for my half the year before. It helps, just make sure that you get enough rest and nutrion during the day. There have been several on here that have done the same thing as well.

Good Luck
Joe

My first half marathon is scheduled for March 30. I too was planning to begin P90X. Is anyone making changes to the P90X schedule to accommodate their daily runs?

hopej - Personally I didn't modify anything. I ran 3 times a week and only when I felt good about it, even if it was on legs day with my long runs were on rest day. I've seen some that have taken out the plyo, yoga and kenpo and ran on those days while doing the other 3 days and keeping the rest day.

I feel like it is fine to combine P90X/P90X2 with running as long as it is done right. In the beginning I will be doing the Plyo workouts as well, but I think when I start to get into longer distance runs I will have to cut that workout out just so I don't kill my knees/legs. If I am feeling strong and fresh then I may keep the Plyo workout. I am planning on seeing how I feel. Also, I'm not sure if you will need the Cardio workout of the Lean Schedule, since you will be running. Again, it's up to you and if you feel you need it and it will improve your running and training.

Hey train2shred, glad your'e in! Will you be following the P90x2 schedule completely? Or modifying a little? And I agree 100% with your advice to RunningGirl6. Definitely make sure you get enough rest and proper nutrition. I would also recommend you to take advantage of your rest days and do plenty of stretching. I have found this to greatly improve my all around performance. Usually I will switch back and forth from P90x Stretching and P90x2 Recovery & Mobility.

Hey hopej, i'm glad you want to use P90x to help you train. It's a great tool to help with your training. I am using P90x2 for my training, but P90x will do just fine as well. This is a suggestion for your training schedule. If you are following the schedule Monday-Sunday (Sunday as your rest day) I would suggest to do smaller runs on Monday and Wednesday (upper body workouts) and then your long distance run on Saturday. You can do Kenpo if you would like to on Saturday as well. And of course rest enough and eat proper nutrition. Let me know what you think!

Hey everyone!
I just finished 4 miles on my treadmill (it was below zero this am here in MN so I stayed indoors). And now off to do CORE (Day 1 of P90x lean) . . . just a quick check-in!

Hi again,
Glad to see others combining p90x and running! I am planning on doing the regular p90x lean routine and some basic base-building running to start out with, but won't have a problem altering either depending on how I am feeling. One of the real benefits I have found of the p90x is the stretching component. I have done p90x off and on for years so am familiar with the workouts. I just purchased p90x2 as well, but haven't touched it yet - maybe I will take a look at that as well.

I completed Core and ate pretty clean today (and got the 4 miles in) so consider it a success! Back at work tomorrow will be the challenge. I have found that I need to get up and work out in the morning before work to be most consistent. I HATE mornings, but if I wait until night to workout it often just doesn't get done...

Hope everyone had a great start today!

Hey RunningGirl6, good decision to stay indoors! I agree with you on the benefits of stretching and core work. It has helped me with my running, surfing, and I just feel good after stretching. Good luck on your morning workouts! Keep tracking and posting to keep yourself motivated.

Happy New Year!!!

Did P90X2 Core yesterday. Just got back from a 3 mile run and will do Plyocide later as the wife is watching a movie. Once the kids go back to school my workouts will be in the early morning with running later in the day to split them up.

CoachFrontiera - My plan is to do 3 weeks of each phase this time and that will leave me plenty of time to hit my running hard and be able to recover from all the long runs in the last 6-7 weeks.

RunningGirl6 - Little colder in your area than mine. Was 16 degrees when I did my run a little earlier. I get shin splints when using a treadmill so all my running goes outside no matter how cold. Try to get it in when the wind isn't blowing and that helps a little with how cold it feels.

Hey all,
Just a quick check in to keep me accountable! I did get up at 5am today and did CardioX ... I didn't ROCK cardio, but I did it... I consider it a victory! I think I will be running on the treadmill tomorrow. I stopped at the grocery store tonight and stocked up on veggies, eggs and chicken. I have had some problems with plantar fasciitis, and can feel my heel getting tight ... Need to stretch!. My hammies and glutes are screaming from Core yesterday!

Hope everyone is sticking with their programs!

Good evening!!!

Checking in with X2 R&M. Haven't stretched like that in a long time, felt great. Have been doing good with food and water so far this week with no soda.

RunningGirl6 - Nice job on the workout. Take care of the pf so it doesn't give you more serious problems later on.

Hi Everyone,
I started on 1/1/13 and am going to try and do a 1/2 marathon in March. Did Shoulders & Arms yesterday along with a 3 miler on the treadmill. plan on keeping in the plyo as well, unless it starts to kick my butt with the running. YogaX tonight!

Kevin, I think I am going to be running 2 shorter runs a week and then 1 long run a week. I will see how that goes.
