Nutrition Question for P90x
Nutrition Question for P90x
12/19/12 10:02 AM
I am on phase 1 of p90x (10 days in) and I am looking for alternatives for breakfast. I usually make the Spinach Scramble or just have a protein shake. I'm looking to add some variety. I did a search for p90x breakfast and saw some things like protein pancakes and protein muffins. For protein pancakes, this is the nutrition facts:

Calories 200

Protein 21.4
Carb: 19.7
Fat: 2g

This is my question: How do I count something like this as a serving? Is it a protein? A carb? a half and half? I'm curious if I can count it as a protein serving and disregard the carb count or if that's a no no. I"m trying to add some variety for breakfast but it's hard finding things that are protein-heavy with very little carb and or fat.

Create yourself a myfitnesspal.com account, it is a free tracking website with a huge database of food, recipes and supplements. You can track everything with it and you can customize it down depending on your goals.

That will be easier for you to calculate your every day calories and macros.

Thanks, that doesn't really answer my question though.

Well obviously you can't disregards the carbs in the pancake. I guess you would have to count that as 1 portion of protein and 1 portion of carbs.

Personnaly i don't like the portions eating method, with myfitnesspal you can count calories and go with macros % instead. That is a lot easier to keep track and stay accountable.

For breakfast other than egg white or protein shake i can't see much food that is loaded with protein and low carbs/fat.

So you think it's better using actual #s? x amount of calories of protein, x amount of calories of carb, x amount of calories of fat, etc.

Yes you count calories and macros in grams with % instead of portions that way you know if you hitted your macros like 40% Carbs / 40% Protein / 20% Fat.

Myfitnesspal has a huge database, they even have pretty much every recipe of beachbody programs. You can create your recipe if it is not listed. And it doesn't cost a penny.
