Maintenance after 60
Maintenance after 60
seniors maintenance program
12/20/12 11:36 AM
I have 5 weeks to finish the classic P90X program. I am 60 years old. I lost 20 lbs and now at about my proper weight and am pleased with my muscle definition! I have the motivation to 'bring it' to complete the program.

When I am finished with the P90X program, could Tony or an authority please give me advice on how to maintain my body's condition? Is there a maintenance program for seniors? Start the program over again? Start P90X2? I am a young 60 year old. I just want to know what to do through my 60's, 70's and on up............. Thanks,

David

Hi David!

Congrats on being almost a p90X grad. Its great that you are thinking of the future. In order to mainatain it will be continuing to workout. You could do another P90X round, try something less intense. P90X2 is a great program and it is designed for more althetic performance. There is a lot of balance moves with weights and it ramps up to phase 3 where you do a lot of plyo. You don't need to want to improve althetic performance to do it, it will help core and overall you will maintain and continue to get stronger.

What you do next is completely up to you. It will come down to staying active and eating well. What is your goal besides maintaining?

Cheers!
Christina

Hi Christina, thank you for the reply. It's nice to have a person to motivate me and back me up! Since nobody around me does it. There are days where my motivation tells me, "whats the use". I have gotten into routine of going to work, coming home and working out for six days a week. Do I have a life?.... LOL! As I said I am quite young for my age, have a lust for life. I don't know what my new-found body will do for me since I haven't gotten out and done anything since starting P90X. I love skiing, fly-fishing, baseball, (hardball), hiking and mountain climbing. Use to bike ride to work 20 mi round trip). Actually I am good at most sports. Last year I was running 5 mi a day but started loosing muscle mass!

When I am done with P90X do I just go right into another program? Wait a month or two? I got to tell you Christina, the pull-ups were the hardest for me. When I started out I was not able to do any at all! Now I can do only 4 and by the end of the DVD on back muscles I can only do one, almost 2. emoticon Any other advice for me at 60 please feel free to tell me. Thanks.

Happy to support! emoticon Its takes dedication to get through these 90 days! You are definitely quite active!

I recommend taking a rest week before doing another program. The pullups were the hardest for me too. Have to looked into the pull-up assist?

The advice I have is that age is just a number. If you want to do something, do it. Try a program that you have been looking into, go for thst next challenge!
