How Difficult is Les Mills Combat?
Showing 11 results.
I've completed P90x, P90x2, Insanity, Asylum Vol. 1, and Asylum Vol. 2 and am looking for a new challenge. I'm a huge fan of the Insanity series because of the high intensity and the fast pace. I love how after each workout I'm drenched and I know I just burned a ton of calories. Now I'm looking for a new challenge and have thought about either creating a hybrid program combining all of the series mentioned or I thought about giving Les Mills Combat a try. And even though it's not a beachbody program, I thought about even Tapout XT.

For those of you that have completed similar programs, how would you compare Combat? Is it as difficult/more difficult than Insanity? Is it comparable? Love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks

Cajames8: I have just previewed several of the Combat workouts, and it is a blast. The moves are somewhat easy to learn, like kenpo X from P90X, but at a different pace. The intensity is great, probably 10% calorie burn on the 30 minute, the upper body resistance is awesome, and the 30 minute Live was great as well.

I have a group starting combat on Jan 3 if you would like to join us. Come on over and post an intro.

I have to 2nd this.. I've also done Insanity and I was 9 weeks into Pump when this came out.. For the first time in a long time, I'm waking up sore.. But, you are having such a blast during the workouts, you don't really realize how hard you are working.. As for Insanity, I personally think that these workouts would feel pretty brutal if I hadn't done Insanity first. I think Insanity was a harder program but maybe that's just because this one is so much fun or the fact that I used Insanity to get back in shape.. Whatever the case, I have heard no one speak negative about Combat, I have nothing negative to say about it.

I agree! After two rounds of p90x, and one round of insanity and pump, each, I ::love:: combat. Granted, I also took combat in the Bodycombat format, which was also a blast. I disagree with the above poster that said it's 10% the calorie burn. I think if you're saying this, you may not be completely into the workout or doing the moves correctly.

For example, with Combat 60 LIVE, you do a variety of moves that gives you the same HOLY COW burn that comes with a good insanity workout. You receive back whatever energy you put in, and combat is no exception to this.

I would, however, check out the basics DVD first to make sure you're getting everything out of the workouts that you could be. I doubled my experience after doing this; the abs alone were worth the review!

Combat is a great program, and if you love that good lung burn and enjoy any level of martial arts (even just the punching and kicking), combat will be a great program for you.

extreme cardio fighter combat 60 will kick your ass!!! i was able to scorch 1039 calories during it!!! its brutally fun!!!
and the power hiit is intense esp if you add the weights...im up to 20lbs during the routine..im a sloppie-sweatie-mess afterwards but smilin' away!!!
shock plyo hiit leaves you begging for them to stop during the ski squats and then the rotating pushups and hovers...but whoa its ahella great program!!!
im beyond glad i purchased it!!!

the instructors Racheal and Dan make the program enjoyable with their chit chat and banter, corny jokes and all...

I am now doing a LM Combat/P90X2 combo. The Combat is a great workout and fun to do, but I woul dnot consider it as intense as any of the Shaun T workouts. Given that you got thropugh Asylum 1 and 2, my guess is that Combat will be alesser challenge for you

I've been doing X2 and Asylum (about to do volume 2) I have a plan mapped out for the next good while but reading about Combat definitely has me interested in it.

How would you compare it to Asylum and X2? I suppose what might be a better question is, what do you think you can gain from Combat that the other programs don't offer?

I have done Insanity and the Asylum. I am now doing Les Mills Combat. With Les Mills Combat you sweat as much as with the Insanity workouts, however, I feel that my heart rate goes way up with the Insanity or the Asylum. Also Les Mills Combat is not as hard as Insanity. I like Les Mills Combat because it is fun and love the music they play, but I would say Insanity and the Asylum are the hardest workouts I have ever done.

Agreed, insanity is more difficult but it is intended to be a HIIT program with little rest. Plus you are jumping and moving your whole body the whole time. Combat has a bit more down time I feel where they start off slow to get you into the rhythm then pile on intensity. This results in a bit lower overall intensity in my opinion. Like others said you will get out what you put into it. If you are not getting your body into it and flailing your arms then yeah you might get only 10% calorie burn. I just finished the combat 30 workout and burned 495 calories with maximum heart rate of 178 so it is still a kick ass workout. I would say on a scale of 1 to 10 insanity = 10/11 and combat is an 8 or 9 depending on your effort and the dvd you are doing. Hope that helps!
