Starting p90x Christmas Eve!

Hey everyone,

I will be starting p90x starting this Monday. I am really excited to get started. I am a little nervous because I don't really know what to expect when it's all over but I am committed to sticking with it! Wish me luck!

Awesome - you picked a great program! Let me share a few tips to get you started but please let me know if I can help...we have a great group of folks supporting each other and would love to have you join us:

1) For the first two weeks, expect to be sore... A lot. After that your body will start to adjust.

2) Absolutely take your before photos. They are really great for showing your progress to yourself.

3) During the first 30 days, your weight may or may not change much. Some people it does and some it doesn't. There are a few factors for this. First is that your body composition is changing. You'll be adding muscle and losing fat. The second factor is that often times when you start intense workouts your body retains extra water. After about a month or so it stops and you'll feel like your losing a pound or two a day. I say this mostly in case this happens you won't think that you're doing something wrong or that the program isn't working. For me, the magic started around day 30.

The reason for that is also a bit of protective "swelling" and some irritation. Intense workouts break down muscle tissue, the body's natural response is swelling, one for protection, two for healing/rebuilding, three to flush out lactic acid built up during the activity.

4) Don't worry about keeping up with the people in the video. At first you probably won't be able to. MODIFY as needed.

5) Don't look at P90X as just a 90 day program. It's a lifetime program that you can do in 90 day cycles. It may take you more than 90 days to reach your goals, or even better, you may reach your goals and want to set a new one.

6) No matter what, keep pushing play.

thanks for the encouragement! I will be using the resistance bands as a result of cost and convenience. this is embarrassing to admit right now but I can barely do 1 wide grip pull up. do u think in phase 1 it would be better for me to use the resistance bands during the pull up exercises?

No need to be embarrassed as many can't do pull-ups...yes I suggest to start with the bands but you can also do some pull-ups a modified way. Use a chair or the pull-up assist (which I love) and help yourself up but then go down slowly concentrating on the negative portion of the pull-up. Use a wide hand grip as that is the one that will work the lats the most. If you can do these modified pullups it will help build some strength. But bands will work too as I mix them in myself. Make sure you follow the cues on the DVD so you are in proper form and hold the contraction for a second to feel it...let me know what other questions you have.

hey all! today was day 3 for me. I was really encouraged because I was able to keep up with Ab Ripper X much better than I was the first time. I have been keeping straight with the diet, everything seems to be going well! It's hard to stay patient bc I want to see results now but I know they're coming! Good luck everyone!

Awesome. Great job! Keep it up.

I just finished Day 2 myself and despite still being a little sore from Chest and Back yesterday I am feeling pretty good. I will be doing my second round of Ab Ripper X tomorrow and am encouraged by your comment that it got easier. I was having some real trouble keeping up the first time and I thought my form was horrible. Got a good workout but thought that if it didn't get easier i might hurt myself.

Keep going! Have you taken your "before" pictures yet? If not, be sure to do that!

hey everyone just thought i'd check in since it's been a while. Everything has been going great! I can't believe I am almost done with three weeks! I am really encouraged as I can already tell that I look a little slimmer. I can't wait to see what the final result will be. Good luck to everyone and remember-- KPP!
