Insanity in the Morning, P90x at night, doable? Advisable?
I finished my 7 weeks of Insanity 1-2 weeks ago, it was the first exercise workout / program I've ever done, so naturally I found it quite difficult for the first 1-2 weeks, then it got easier, then month 2 was REALLY hard for 1-2 weeks, then got a LITTLE easier.

I'm 21 years old, I'm 5 foot 11 and 165 pounds, I bought p90x after Insanity as i was under the impression that it was the step up from insanity, but after doing a bit of research most people said they are around the same or insanity is more challenging, if this is the case I know i will be able to go through with the 90 days of p90x, and that's kind of half the challenge gone.

At first i was considering insanity in the morning, followed by the double P90x schedule calendar thing but from what I've read that would be pretty stupid, so i was thinking Insanity in the morning followed by one of the p90x workouts at night, what do you guys think, is this a good idea? Anyone here who has actually done it and has some tips / advice?

Also on a side note, for the p90x I'm under the impression you dont need a pull up bar and can just use "bands" or whatever they are called, but I was also wondering If you can substitute pullups with "the pully bar at the top of the picture below" will that work the same muscles or not?

Thanks for all feedback.

In regards to the pull ups question, if that engages the proper muscles (IE the same as a pull up) why not? I'd just do the research to find that out, as I don't know whether it does or not.

If your really aching to work your back out and that doesn't pan out, you could do bent over rows. Nothing really replaces pull ups but if your at least doing something that engages your back, at least it will be getting stronger while you search for a solution.

Congrats on finishing Insanity! I would say it's totally fine to do a schedule of Insanity in the a.m. and p90x in the p.m. (or vice versa). HOWEVER, there are two major things to keep in mind. You definitely have to make sure to eat enough and keep tabs on your calories and protein. Both programs are demanding and challenge your body in different ways, so you have to make sure you're getting the right kind of fuel to keep your body charged and give it what it needs to repair and build itself up. You also have to make sure to listen to your body. If it feels like you're doing too much, or you're just getting too exhausted, maybe your muscles are not recovering right, whatever the scenario.. you have to make sure you can tell if your body is getting challenged or if it's getting overwhelmed.

I have done both programs (individually) and have also done a hybrid (single workout per day) and found that worked really well. Basically I used the muscle days of p90x as they are in the schedule, then on the other days I used the Insanity cardio workouts and recovery & ab workouts. You could potentially consider that type of schedule as well, if you think just p90x alone would not challenge you enough.

As for the pull-up's, honestly a pull-up bar will get you the best results, but I know that's not always feasible. When I first did p90x I ended up using resistance bands (hooked up in the corner of a door) and that worked fine. I think the piece of equipment pictures will work a lot of the similar muscles and still challenge your back, shoulders, arms, etc. Just make sure to keep good form.

Hope that helps. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions!
