Need help with Body Beast Meal plan
I got Body Beast from my wife for Christmas (you think she is telling me something) and I plan on starting it on Jan 7th. I am trying to understand the meal plan and what you need to do but I am having trouble following it. Some questions:

  1. What does Shakeology count for? I noticed it is listed multiple times in the food list in the book, can I count it for only one things (I get to pick what it is for) or does it count for everything (like Protein Liquid and Balanced Liquid)?
  2. Next is the portions, I am having trouble trying to understand that. Do I need to follow it almost to a "T"? Or as long as I am around what I need to do that should be fine? Like I might have a couple extra fats, Fruits, and Protiens but not have a lot of Starches.... And if I have to follow it to a "T" what have others done?
  3. Next is what the portions come out to in grams, like say I have 25 grams or protein what does that equate to in portions?

I am sure I have other questions but this is what I can think of now. Thanks

Focus on the calorie targets and hitting your Body Beast Macros. Then use the portions as a guideline to make sure you are eating balanced.

Regarding Shakeology, I used it as the protein source in my Beast Shakes since it has 17 grams of whey (if you don't get Vegan), I also put in 1 cup of ground up oatmeal and a scoop of Fuel Shot and other items into my post workout shake. I like to keep a 4 to 1 ratio of carbs to proteins in my Beast Shakes. Also, several folks (me included) ended up eating 300-500 more calories than the recommendation when we got to to Bulk Phase, so be willing to adapt when you get there.

Happy Lifting,

Robert Broussard

Along with what Brousard said, I would focus more on the calories and macro balance rather then the portions immediately. There are lots of smartphone apps that will track that for you. I use an app called Loseit! It has a good a database and you can create custom foods. Things like shakeology and whatever else, or just anything that's not in the database. And then it has a nutrient page that will show your macro balance as well as some other relevant nutrient information.

And you don't have to follow it to a "T", but you need to be somewhat close most days for the best results.

Hi all, I am preparing for the Body Beast program and am putting all my "ducks in a row" if you will. The meal planning does seem to be the least user friendly aspect of the program, however definitely not deterring me though. I am looking at preparing portions ahead of time to freeze,to try and stay on track. haven't set a start date yet but will soon.
Is Shakeology helpful to keep up with protein amounts?

Hi David,

I think Shakeology does help a bit with the protein--it's got 16-17 g of protein per scoop. However, getting protein without the carbs can be difficult, so aside from meats, I also supplement with whey protein (I use Iso-sensation 93 from Ultimate Nutrition).

If you can afford the supplements, definitely use Beachbody's base shake and fuel shot and suma. The nice thing is that they make a good post-workout drink and provide a decent amount of calories as well (which means less work finding those calories). Trust me, you'll be eating a lot. I'm assuming you're hoping to gain weight?

Yes, the meal planning will be the hardest but probably the most crucial part to be successful, in my opinion. Good luck with the program...I'm doing it right now and totally enjoying it. I kind of ignore the book and do my own thing as far as meals, but it seems to work. I've already gained 8 lbs after 6 weeks.
