A New Beginning
A New Beginning
1/1/13 2:04 PM
Today was the first day of my new healthy lifestyle, as I'm sure it was for most people.. I'm an unhealthy, overweight widowed mom of 2. My husband passed away in April 2012, he had a massive heart attack in front of me and our children, honestly wanted to die with him. 17 years is all I had with him, he was an amazing man and father, my best friend but let his health and weight get out of control which is what killed him. I let the stress and sadness take over and I gained a lot of weight over the past 8 months, I had always been overweight but now I'm uncomfortable and miserable when I get dressed and look in the mirror. I snap at my kids for the smallest things, I snack on chips and soda constantly even though i know my stomach will be upset after.. I'm done using my husbands death as my excuse to fall deeper into this funk. I'm ready and excited to begin this new chapter in my life.

I started Insanity today, even though it was only the Fit Test, I felt like death!! I emptied my cabinets and fridge of all the "bad" food. I know its only Day 1 but I'm proud of myself for making this choice and I know I'm going to succeed.

Happy New Year!!
Noreen

Today was my first day of Insanity as well.....my body is already a little sore in some places but I'm really excited to keep pushing!!
In addition to Insanity, I'm drinking the Vegan Shakeology for breakfast and the p90x results n recovery formula after my workouts. Lets see how this goes :-)

Hi Noreen,

I'm so sorry for your lost. It must have been unpleasant for you and your children. My husband has asthma and breathing difficulties and I fear that I will lose him right before my eyes. It is scary. I commend you for starting a new chapter in your life. We often find excuses and use life's events as an excuse. We eventually come to a realization and that's what you did. You are taking the first step to better health and well being for yourself and your children. Your husband will always be watching over you and cheering you on through your insane journey with Insanity. Do you have a support/accountability group/person to help you on your journey? I would love to help keep you accountable.

Im happy for you that you took this journey remember to have some way to keep yourself accountable. When i first started P90X in 2009 it was with videos on YouTube. Yea you'll get trolled possibly but thats just life lol. Or you can make your blog and just keep it up to date so you can look back. Also make sure to be in a calorie deficit of 500 per day so 1lb loss per week. You can track your calories easily on a smartphone app /website like fatsecret or myfitnesspal. Also try to keep your macronutrients in check (fat, protein, carbs) the app will help with that. Track everything you put into your mouth on the app and should let you know if you are overeating. Sometimes we think we are only eating 1000 calories per day but when we add it up it turns out way more!

Just stay consistent and set obtainable goals each day emoticon

Hi Noreen,

You know, I just can't stop reading and re-reading your post over and over again. I can't imagine what you and your family have gone through. And you know, it's a common thing to turn to the chips and soda when we're feeling bad. It's a comfort thing. I get that. And I also have to let you know how proud I am of you for taking the bull by the horns to create a new life for yourself and your kids. Going on this Insanity journey will be just that--a journey. It will force you to look deep within yourself to see what drives you, and see what you're made of. You will come out the other end a stronger person too.

Good job! I'm proud of you already, on day 1!! Keep us posted!! emoticon

All the best,

Coach Zarno

Thank you for all the kind words! I'm on Day 3 and WOW the pain is ridiculous!! I am looking so forward to doing that fit test again just to see how much I've improved because I am working it like crazy! I wake up at 4:45, hit the gym to just get on the treadmil for walking, then home to do Insanity.. My legs feel like jelly, I have pain in area's I was not aware existed.. But I am happy that I have not given up-if you knew me you would know i'd have given up on Day 1. I have an 8 yr old daughter that watches me and encourages me-she just started doing Shaun T's kid fit video and loves it, so that pushes me harder knowing that she is watching me give it my all, granted I have yelled a few choice words that she should not hear emoticon

I will take all the encouragement I can get!! I love looking at the profiles and seeing how far people have come, its amazing.. I have to upload my before pic.

Thanks again for the encouragement!!

Noreen,

That is a tough tragedy to have to endure and I feel for you and your family. I hope you and your children are able to keep close to heart the wonderful memories that you have of your lives together. I admire you for deciding to make a change while you work through your loss. One day at a time. One foot in front of the other.

You can do it.

Do it for yourself and your kids.

I know one of the primary motivating factors for getting a handle on my fitness has been my desire to make sure I am around for my children. I'll be 40 in June and my son and daughter are 10 months and 3 years old respectively. I want to set an example for them to live happy and healthy lives.

Good luck to you!
