Vegans and Vegetarians

Hi everyone! I have recently decided to adopt a vegan diet after years of being a vegetarian. I am looking for others who are doing team beach body programs while using a plant based diet. I have done Insanity twice and am in the middle of Turbofire right now, and so far so good. I would love connect with other fellow veggies and hear about your success stories, or tricks that you have to avoid hunger, etc.

Hi,

My wife and I are vegans also and did the insanity program. We are about to start the p90x/insanity hybrid program while mixing the 10 minute trainer in. We are trying to eliminate soy and gluten from our diet, so it will be a little bit of a challenge in the beginning. For supplements we use Vega One for the whole meal replacement, and Vega Sport (I think it's called) for the after workout drink. They are both great and we've seen great results. I also put a powder by Amazing Grass into my smoothies. It adds a nice flavor and also gives several helpings of green veggies as well.

We also juice vegetables. It's a challenge in the beginning to get all the nutrients right, but it is more than doable. I'm not huge or truly ripped (yet) but people have been asking me if I've gotten bigger or have been working out, so I'm modest proof against the string thin starving vegan. emoticon

Good luck and keep at it!!!

You touched on something that I think is very important. Most people, when they think of a vegan person, think of a willowy, pale, nutrient deficient person. My main goal is to avoid all of that nonsense. I firmly believe you can get all of your nutrients in (I will admit, I supplement my B12 and Omega-3) and not look like you are next to death. I having me reading a lot of Dr. Fuhrman's books, and I really like what he is about. He promotes a raw eating lifestyle, and I cannot really argue his logic. Good things in, good things out. Makes sense to me!

I'm going to have to check out those supplements...they sound pretty good. I am thinking about getting a Vitamix, so that Amazing Grass is particularly interesting to me...

I'm a vegan doing P90X emoticon This is what my typical diet looks like:

Breakfast: Protein shake (2 cups soy milk, 1/2 banana, 1 scoop Life Basics Chocolate Protein Powder, 1 TBSP peanut butter, 5 ice cubes)

Snack: Low carb tortilla w/ 1 TBSP vegan cream cheese

Lunch: Mexibowl (1/2 cup black beans, 1/2 cup lentils, 1/3 cup corn, 1/3 cup vegan meat crumbles, 1/4 cup pico de gallo, 1/2 avocado)

Snack: 1 apple + 1.5 TBSP peanut butter

Dinner: Stir Fry (3 oz Tempeh, broccoli, 1/3 cup soy beans, 1/4 red bell pepper, 1/4 cup baby corn) and 1/2 cup peas

Total: 1,613 calories, 116 g protein, 192 g carbs, 71g fiber, 56 fat, 68 g sugar

44% carbs, 29% fat, 27% protein emoticon

It's completely possible to do a vegan diet and still get MORE than enough protein and feel great emoticon

--P.S., I have a Vitamix, and I would highly recommend getting one! Especially if you have a shake or would use it everyday...it's super nice and I love it!

Oh I am so jealous!! Which model do you have? I am looking at the 5200. At the Whole foods by me they do demos so I am hoping to catch one, although I know that will completely put me over the edge and I will purchase it on the spot. I think the MAJOR thing for me is not only all of the things that it can do, but the fact that it is self cleaning. That is a biggie!!

I'm planning to get a vitamix in the next few months hopefully. If you're looking to get one, go to costco or an equivalent. They usually have better prices. I imagine wholefoods will be the premium price tag.

I actually just ordered mine through QVC. They have the package with the 5200 with the dry container that I wanted to grind my own flour. Cosco has the Pro model (at least the one by me does).

I got mine on their website but I got a refurbished one so it was only like $320 but you still get the same 7 year warranty emoticon

I'm hoping to get mine in a few months. *fingers crossed*

On a side note, I think I'm going to look online to see if I can find some good vegan meal plans for intense workouts. I know I don't eat enough, and soy and gluten are not friends.

That is one thing I have struggled with...not taking in enough calories. I feel like I am eating a lot volume wise, but it is just not adding up in terms of calories. If you find anything, let me know!

Will do. When I get home I'm going to look up a couple world class athletes that are vegan and go from there.
