MoeAU:
Well, I am new to the P90X program and I have many questions on my head:
1) Considering that the peak recovery formula is recommended to be taken after the workout, what is the effect of taking so many carbs after the workout?
2) Why is the ratio of carbs low compared to the protein in the recovery formula? Isn't the protein intake level supposed to be high after the workout too? And isn't the carbs intake level supposed to be high before the workout since it will be consumed during the workout?
3) Do I have to take the recovery drink even after the workouts which don't include weight lifting like the Yoga and Stretch and Cardio workouts?
4) Is it a problem if I do the workout at night, take the recovery drink and go straight to bed? (Bearing in mind that it has a high level of carbs?
Thanks
Hello Moe,
Those are great questions!
1. Carbs will help with recovery and help replace the glycogen stores used during workout.
2. Carbs a lower than protein, because protein is required within 30 minutes of a workout to help rebuild the muscle that was torn down.
3. I don't think you need it after stretching....Yoga, maybe....that workout is pretty hard and will work your muscles.
4. I imagine you are jumping to bed within 5 minutes of workout. If you drink immediately following workout...by the time you get ready for bed, you should be ok. Since it's a liquid drink, your body will absorb everything faster and break it down a lot quicker than eating a plate of food.
I hope this helps!
